We got to work and David looked around as he gripped my hand tight.
“You know your grip is starting to hurt a little.” I said and he let up. We walked into the building and we stopped at the stairs.
“I’ll come with you to get your coffee.” David said and I stared at him.
“Ok weirdo.” I said and we walked to the cafeteria. I saw Audra getting coffee. “Good morning Audra.” I said and she turned.
“Oh, good morning you both.” Audra looked between us.
“Don’t mind him, he’s worried.” I said.
“Im not worried. Im cautious.” David corrected me and Audra giggled.
“I’ll leave your coffee in your office.” Audra said walking by us. I quickly got my coffee and David grasped my open hand as soon as I was done. We walked out and I figured this was where we would part ways.
“I’ll walk with you to your cubicle.” David said and I shook my head. We walked all the way to my desk. I kissed him and sat down.
“Ok, I’ll see you later.” I said setting my coffee down and powering my computer up. I turned and he still stood there. “David, you’re going have to go to work at some point.” I said and he nodded.
“I just…” David watched the entrance to the accounting department for a moment.
“David?” I asked and he turned.
“Ok, I’ll go.” He walked over kissing me again. “I love you. I’ll be back to check on you later.” He whispered and I nodded.
“I figured.” I said and he finally left. I got started right away on work and ignored everything else around me.
“Ryan?” I heard a faint voice and turned.
“Oh Audra! Sorry I was in the middle of this.” I said looking away.
“I’ve been sent to see if you’re ok.” Audra smiled.
“Oh my gosh.” I said slightly annoyed. “I’m fine. Let him know I’m perfectly fine.” I said going back to working.
“Ok, I will do that.” Audra said as she left.
*David’s perspective.*
I watched Ryan’s house out the window. I heard the door to the office open and looked over.
“Next time, you do your own evil bidding.” Audra said crossing her arms.
“Things are good then?” I said sitting in my chair.
“She was so annoyed David.” Audra said and I sighed.
“We’ll just station a guard in the accounting department then.” I said rocking my chair.
“Can I be here when you ask Will about that? Better yet when you tell Ryan?” Audra asked.
“Stop. I’m worried about this. Ryan doesn’t think he’s a threat but you should see how easily I over powered her!” I said and Audra looked away.
“Oh David please. I don’t want to know what you do in private.” Audra said.
“Stop, it wasn’t like that.” I said rolling back to the window and staring out. “You know you can’t just roll right into town. How did he get her address?” I said worried.
“I think when the movers left, they may have left a forward address for her mail with the apartment managers. I can ask them if you like.” Audra said and I quickly turned to her.
“Yes! Please as soon as possible.” I said and Audra nodded.
*Ryan’s perspective.*
It was close to the end of the day and I was finishing up everything. I was glad David didn’t bug me during lunch, but Angela had informed me that David had asked her to watch me at lunch. Everyone got a kick out of it and some even thought it was romantic how he watched me. I started to send off my work when Angela came into my cubicle.
“Hey Ryan, I see you’re still in one piece!” Angela giggled.
“Yep, I’m still alive! Im so ready for the weekend.” I said standing up and shutting my computer down.
“I don’t want to say this, but I’ve been asked to stand here with you until David arrives. He’s on his way.” Angela said and I let out a long exhale.
“Ok, we’ll wait.” I said crossing my arms.
“There he is.” Angela said.
“Hello Angela. How was the day?” He asked and she looked at me.
“Everything was fine.” Angela said almost nervous.
“Did you have Angela watch me all day?” I asked and David shook his head.
“Of course not! I had Audra check in once, remember?” David smiled.
“David I don’t need to be watched!” I said firmly annoyed with him.
“Im sorry Ryan. I know I’m being paranoid. Let me take you out to dinner to make it up to you.” David held his hand out and Angela watched us. I grabbed it with a sigh.
“Alright, but I’m still angry.” I said and he laughed.
“Ok, let’s head out. Thank you Angela!” David yelled behind him. We walked to David’s car and he opened my door for me. I started to buckle and David got in. We sat in the car for a moment.
“Everything ok?” I asked and he turn to me.
“The movers left a forward address with your apartment manager.” David said.
“You’re kidding.” I said. I turned and stared out. My anger rising the more I thought. “This has to be some kind of breach of privacy.” I said and scoffed.
“I agree, but we have our answers.” David said starting the car. I watched out the window as we drove.
“I just can’t believe it. They know we broke up, he took my car, and they still give him my new address.” I complained. We pulled into a restaurants parking lot.
“This is the family diner we talked about.” David said and we got out of the car. David met me at the front of the car.
“Maybe we should just get the food and go home.” I said and David grabbed my hand.
“Are you sure?” He said as we entered.
“Yes, I’m not really in the mood anymore.” I said and he nodded. He asked for some menus to get everything to go. We looked them over and placed our orders. We sat at a table to wait until it was ready. I stared out at the families all smiling and eating.
“What are you thinking about?” David asked.
“How happy all these families and couples look.” I said.
“Are you saying that because you’re unhappy right now or is it something else?” David asked.
“I don’t know. Sometimes when I feel upset or sad. I notice how happy other people are.” I said.
“Are you sad?” David asked and I looked at him.
“No, I’m upset that Matt could show up at any time, Im upset they gave him my address, I’m mad that he can’t let this go. Our relationship was so terrible at the end. Fighting all the time and…” I paused thinking about how anytime he tried to kiss me or touch me. My skin would recoiled at the thought. I felt David’s hand on mine. The warmth from his touch instantly made me smile.
“We don’t have to talk about him anymore.” David said softly.
“Thank you.” I said. After a moment of our fingers playing, I got up and moved to the other side of the booth. He put his arm around me and I reached up rubbing his face. He kissed my lips lightly.
“I love you.” He said and I melted. I pushed up to kiss his lips. I kissed him over and over. He started to laugh and pulled back. “This is a family establishment.” He said and I looked around. A couple people were staring at us.
“Sorry.” I said turning back. “I couldn’t help it. You just make all my anger fade away.” I said and he gave me a quick kiss.
“Im glad.” He said in a almost whisper.
