Chapter 46 - Girl’s night gone wrong

“Thanks Hunter.” I said getting into the car.

“Anytime! You got me out of the Seattle drive today. The meetings are always so long and I have nothing to do for hours.” Hunter said and I smiled.

“Have you tried bringing a book?” I asked.

“I’ve never found a book that could hold my interest.” Hunter said. “You know I should get one of those handheld game things!” He said with excitement.

“That sounds perfect.” I said as we pulled up to Sam’s house.

“Call me if you need a ride back!” Hunter said with enthusiasm.

“I will.” I got out and walked up to the door. Before I could knock, the door opened.

“Sorry I was just on my way to wait for you.” Garrett said.

“Um ok.” I said and walked in.

“I was under strict orders from David. So if he asks, I was there ok?” Garrett said and I nodded. “Awesome.” He said walking off.

“Ryan!” I heard Sam call from the living room. I walked in and Angela was already there. Both with smiles.

“Tilly and Carol are on their way!” Angela said.

“Oh good!” I said sitting down.

“Pizza is on the way too!” Sam said.

“Even better!” I smiled and they laughed.

“So like I was saying, Garrett is adamant we start our family now.” Sam said.

“So are you?” Angela said.

“We decided to start trying for pups!” Sam said and Angela squealed.

“Pups?” I asked.

“Oh, that’s what we call babies.” Sam said and I nodded. We heard a tap at the door and Garrett soon walked by. We could hear the chatter of Tilly and Carol as they entered.

“Here we are!” Tilly announced with her hands up in the air.

“I made chocolate chip cookies.” Carol said placing a platter on the coffee table.

“So what’s the latest?” Tilly said sitting by me and Carol sat on the floor.

“Well, there’s really nothing to say.” I said.

“Still hiding out at David’s?” Carol asked.

“Pretty much.” I said.

“Well I have news.” Sam said and told the story about her trying to start a family again. They all started chattering and I looked for something on tv. Suddenly everyone got quiet as I flipped through movies. I stopped looking at them all. I heard Garrett stop in the hall.

“What is that?” Angela said.

“What?” I asked.

“Stay here.” Garrett went outside. We all went to the window and I saw a car parked a few houses down. Garrett stood out front and I could see his lips moving.

“Ryan we should uh, go to the kitchen.” Tilly said grabbing my hand.

“What’s going on?” I asked.

“Yeah! Let’s text David and ask him when he’s going to be here.” Sam said closing the curtain. The door opened and I heard Garrett.

“Sorry, I can’t help ya man.” He said.

“You’re sure you haven’t seen her?” I heard a oh so familiar voice.

“Yep. Have no idea who you’re even talking about.” Garrett said closing the door. He came to the living room.

“So Matt’s here.” I said and everyone looked around.

“He said he’s going to sit out there until you get home. I told him that was a vacant house. He doesn’t believe me.” Garrett said. I started to the door.

“No Ryan!” Angela grabbed my hand.

“I have to tell him to leave. If David gets here and he’s here, it could get bad.” I said.

“Well they’re on their way. They didn’t give a specific time of when they would be here.” Garrett had his phone out.

“I’m going to go out there and prove I don’t need protection.” I said shaking off Angela’s hand. I marched out and walked a bit until I could see Matt sitting on my steps. He had cleaned up this time. His hair was cut, a clean shirt, nice blue jeans, and he twirled a rose in his hand.

“Ryan?” Matt finally noticed me.

“Matt why are you here?” I asked as he slowly walked up. He held the flower out and I reluctantly took it.

“I’m not going down without a fight.” Matt said and I stared at him.

“I think it’s time to go home.” I said and Matt smiled.

“You’ll come with me?” He asked and I shook my head.

“It’s time for you to go home Matt.” I said and he looked down.

“Im not leaving with out you.” Matt said sternly.

“David’s on his way. I think it’s best you leave before he arrives.” I said maintaining eye contact.

“Im not scared of that punk b*tch.” Matt said and I sighed.

“Go home. Go back to Arizona where you were convinced would make you the happiest.” I said and he grabbed my arm.

“Im not leaving without you.” He said again.

“What’s wrong with you!?” I said angry now.

“I’m not leaving you here, in this weird cult town that has you brainwashed and sleeping with its leaders!” Matt said and I tried not to laugh.

“Cult!? What the f*ck are you talking about!?” I said.

“Tonya told me everything. How they’re linked to the mob and how they convinced you to move so easily. It has to be a cult! Tonya denied it was a cult but how else are they getting you to stay!? How are they turning you against me so easily? Ryan we have to go. We have to get out of here.” Matt was so misinformed he was making up his own wild scenario.

“It’s not a cult or the mob! It’s a good paying job!” I said angry. He started to drag me to the car.

“Hey! Let her go pal!” Garrett came running out with Sam hot on his tail.

“I’m not looking to fight. I’m just here to get my girlfriend and leave.” Matt yelled and everyone looked around confused.

“He’s not my boyfriend! We broke up!” I yelled and he covered my mouth. This is when my panic set in.

“It’s clear she doesn’t want to go with you. Let her go.” Sam said in a calm voice. I struggled against Matt’s body as he slowly walked to the car. I heard the door open. How could this be the exact scenario David talked about?

“You said you were just going to talk to her Matt!” I heard a voice I vaguely remembered. His buddy from the house.

“I know, help me get her in the car. She’s brainwashed.” Matt said and I struggled.

“I’m not going to be a part of your k********g scheme!” The man said. Thank god for sensible people.

“DAVID! It’s David! There’s their car.” Tilly yelled.

“Paul come on!” Matt pleaded and the guy pulled me into the back seat.
