Chapter 39 - Another Dinner.

“Oh come ON! There is no way that was not a interception!” Will yelled. He smacked David’s arm. “Watch this! Look BOTH legs hit the ground! Oh oh now they’re going to say it was a incomplete pass or some sh*t…” Will was so into the foot ball game. I had zero clue what was going on.

“Look he dropped the ball. It wasn’t a interception.” David said.

“Be on my side!” Will snapped and David laughed.

“Here you are.” Audra handed me a glass of orange juice.

“Oh I didn’t ask for this, but thank you I guess.” I said.

“I don’t have grenadine, it’s basically a sunrise with out it.” Audra sat down. “David said you liked fruity drinks.” I looked at it and then started to drink. I didn’t stop until it was gone.

“Thank you, that was good. They call that a screwdriver where I’m from.” I said and I looked at everyone staring at me.

“That’s impressive.” Will nudged David.

“Can I have another please?” I asked and Audra got up.

“Of course.” She grabbed my cup and left the room.

“Are you ok?” David leaned over to me.

“Yeah, I’m great.” I said smiling at him.

“Here you are.” Audra handed me the new drink.

“Thank you.” I said putting it down.

“Do you by chance want to talk about anything or have any questions?” Audra asked.

“I’m not really sure what to say.” I said looking at everyone.

“Well tell us how you’re feeling.” Audra said.

“I don’t think she wants to talk about her feelings Audra.” Will switch his eyes glued to the tv.

“Why don’t we go in the other room. The guys can watch their sports.” Audra stood up and I grabbed my drink. I followed her out of the room. I followed Audra out into the kitchen. A woman looked at us.

“This is our chef Natalie, but everyone calls her Nat.” Audra said.

“Why are we in your kitchen?” I asked.

“I have to go far enough that Will can’t hear. You know a lot of wolves are born being good at something in that area.” Audra said.

“Like what?” I asked.

“Running, tracking, smell, hearing, or fighting.” Audra said.

“Fighting?! Does that happen often?” I asked.

“Not around here. There are other packs that specialize in fighting and warriors. Greymoon, Ravenmore, White Eclipse is probably the best known. The largest too I think.” Audra said.

“How many other towns are like this?” I asked and Natalie chuckled.

“Oh Ryan, um. There are a lot. The closest one to here actually moved a few years ago. They were actually spell bound.” Audra said.

“You’re going to tell me magic is real from the sound of it.” I said and she laughed.

“We don’t have to get into that now.” Audra said.

“It’s been awhile since I saw a human hang around with a bunch of wolves.” The chef Natalie said.

“She’s from a separate town as well.” Audra said.

“Oh yes, I’m from a town down south. Close to New Mexico. It was called Harbor sun. They named it more towards what humans chose. Throw them off the scent. None the less, they opened a lot of businesses and the humans were none the wiser.” Natalie went back to cooking.

“It’s not uncommon for wolves to mate bond to humans. Half breeds are frowned upon. There are some sad stories of when a human finds out, they usually leave. I think David was getting worried, the longer he held the secret. The harder it would be to tell you. The more you were likely to leave.” I listen to her words and nodded.

“Honestly, I’m shocked. This is a lot, but I can’t help feeling a strong connection with David.” I shook my head.

“What are you thinking about?” Audra asked.

“What moving forward is going to be like.” I said.

“I think a lot of people are already smitten with you. The girls at the office love having you in their gossip group. Now they can actually be themselves.” Audra said.

“It’s been such a short time, everyone has been so nice. This is all so crazy.” I said shaking my head.

“I know it is. My dad talked about how he was in shock for a week. My mom and him were together for three years before she told me.” Audra said.

“Three years!? Why did she wait that long!?” I asked shocked.

“Because she left her pack to live among humans. She wanted to teach, but pack schools are different from human school. She didn’t want to teach pack history. She ended up there after having me, and my brother followed shortly after.” Audra said.

“You have a brother?” I asked.

“Oh yeah. Michael is a couple years younger then me. He works as a barista and is in a band.” She rolled her eyes.

“Is he a wolf too?” I asked and she looked at Natalie.

“Some half breeds don’t get a wolf at all. Not unless they mate to a wolf. It could wake your dormant wolf. Michael is more human then anything else.” Audra said.

“That’s the dangers of having kids, remember that.” Natalie said.

“If I have kids, they could be human?” I asked and Audra nodded.

“They could. I’m half and there’s a slim chance we have a human child.” Audra said.

“Really?” I said shocked.

“Yes, but it’s not why we haven’t had kids. Everyone always asks. I’m just not to that stage where I want them. Will understands aswell. His nephew is a …” Audra looked at Natalie. Natalie nodded. “Is a, really spoiled rotten animal.” Audra finished and Natalie bust out laughing.

“What! George’s son? Bradly or something?” I asked.

“Yes, he’s terrible. You’ll see him Monday.” Audra said.

“Wonderful.” I sighed.

“Everything will be fine.” Audra said as I lifted my drink to my lips and chugged it down. “Ok I’m cutting that off.” Audra said.

“Probably best unless you want to watch me try to make out with David on your couch.” I said and they both stared at me. “I get a little flirty while I’m drunk.” I said before I walked out of the kitchen. David and Will walked into the kitchen talking about sports. I walked up to David and he looked at me.

“All good?” He said and I grabbed his shirt and kissed him. He quickly broke away and cleared his throat. “That good Huh?” He nervously chuckled.

“Dang man.” Will said sitting down.

“Yes everything is fine.” I said as I felt my face heat from the alcohol.

“She downed that second glass and said she gets a little flirty while she’s drunk.” Audra said sitting in her spot.

“Well let’s eat Ryan. Soak up some of that alcohol.” David laughed ushering me to my seat. The rest of the dinner was pretty quiet. Occasionally Will would mention something sports related. I ate as much as I could and waiting until everyone else finished.

“You didn’t eat much.” David said.

“I’m not big on potatoes. Everything else was great.” I said looking around.

“I’ll let Natalie know.” Audra smiled and silence fell again.

“Can we go home? I would like to go home now.” I said and David looked at me surprised.

“Oh uh sure. We’ll get your stuff and I’ll drive you back.” David said.

“Actually I guess I meant your place.” I said and David smiled wide and nodded.

“Yes, we can go home.” David stood and held out his hand. I took it and we walked to the door.

“See you at work tomorrow?” Audra asked and I nodded.

“Yes, see you at work.” I said as David and I walked back to his house.
