Chapter 49 - Recovery.

I woke up the next morning in David’s bed. I looked over at the empty space by me. The door to the bedroom opened and David held a tray in his hand. “No she’s doing fine they said.” I saw David was on the phone. “I’ll let her know. Ok, bye.” David walked over and set the tray on my night stand. He placed my phone by me. “Tonya says she’s sorry. She heard what happened and she never meant to cause any harm.” David sat next to me and felt my head. I winced and he sighed. “You’re staying home from work tomorrow.” He said and I closed my eyes. “If I must.” I said as he grabbed the tray of food. “The chef made you something special.” David said and I looked at a happy face of eggs and bacon. “It’s cute.” I said. “Sam and Garrett are stopping by later. Angela sent flowers. Tilly and Carol came by with cookies. Audra and Will are going to drop by tonight. Then Harmony wanted to come by, but George thinks it’s best you have one less visitor. He promised you said you would do lunch with her later.” David said and I groaned. “I thought I was supposed to rest.” I said and David laughed. “I promise if you get too over whelmed, we’ll send everyone away.” David rubbed my legs. “You’re so sweet.” I said and he kissed my forehead. “Because I love you. Now eat up! I’m going to set up a place down stairs for you to have your visitors. I don’t feel comfortable with a bunch of people seeing our bedroom.” David said getting up. I watched him walk out and poked at my food. I felt more nauseous then anything. I took a few bites and choked it down. David reappeared coming in and stopping when he saw I hadn’t eaten much. He looked up at me. “I’m sorry I just don’t feel very good.” I said and he smiled. “It’s ok, come on. I’ll help you down the stairs.” David said and I moved. “I want to put clothes on.” I said looking at my pajamas. “How about a robe?” David suggested. “Ok, a robe.” I said and David helped put it on me. We went down stairs and I saw a cozy spot set up on the couch. A hot cup of tea and the fireplace on. The remote close by for me to relax with a good show or movie. “Alright, you relax. I’m going to get stuff done in my office today. Message me if you need anything at all.” David said and I nodded. Thankfully I didn’t have to entertain many people. Sam and Garrett stopped just to see how I was. They didn’t stay long before leaving to see Will and Audra. I cozied up on the couch for awhile until David reappeared. “All your stuff will be moved tomorrow.” David said sitting down. “You missed Sam and Garrett.” I said and he nodded. “I heard them and avoided so they would leave sooner. Will and Audra will want to probably stay for dinner. I have the chef making something nice for you.” David said. “I can’t wait for the day to be over.” I said laying my head back. “I’ve had this pounding headache all day. It only goes away for a bit when I take medicine.” I said sighing. “Soon it’ll be over and tomorrow you don’t have to go to work.” David said sweetly. “I feel like I would rather go.” I said not wanting to be away from work more then I had to. “No, it might be too much to stare at the screen all day. I would rather you rest.” David said. “I don’t want to miss more work. Why not like half a day?” I said and David stared at me. “Why are you fighting me on this?” David asked. “I’m not, we’re discussing.” I said as a knock came out the door. David got up and soon reappeared with Audra and Will. “How are you champ?” Will said. “She’s fighting with me to go back to work.” David said. “Not fighting. Discussing it!” I said. “I think it’s best you stay home and rest.” Audra said sitting down. “I agree with Audra and David. The doctor recommended you rest a few days.” Will said. “Plus you have lunch with Harmony tomorrow.” David said. “So lunch with the mayor’s wife is more important then work?” I asked and they all started to laugh. “Her title is actually Luna of Ironridge pack.” Audra said and I looked around. “Ok, do you have a title?” I asked Audra. “No, and you won’t either. Usually the wives all stay pretty close and help the Luna with what ever she needs. I’m sure she’s eager to meet you.” Audra said. “So lunch with her and then dinner with her and George?” I asked and David nodded. “She actually won George over pretty quickly yesterday.” David said. “Really!? I figure just because she was human, he would just have a dislike for her.” Will replied to David. “I’ll be at lunch tomorrow too.” Audra said and I smiled. “Oh thank goodness.” I said relieved I wasn’t going to be alone with a very important stranger. “Oh get ready for her to tell you all about meeting the kings and queen.” David said. “The connection they had.” Will snickered. “Even George said none of that happened. They shook hands and that was it.” David said. “Stop, she doesn’t have much other then trying to bond with Bradly.” Audra said. “Is he coming to the dinner?” I asked. “Bradly isn’t going to miss a chance to see a human.” Will said. “That sounds promising.” I said. “He’s not that bad. He can be a little mean, but his like a mini George.” Audra said as Will and David began to laugh. “Yeah, he’s just like when George was a kid.” Will said. “Oh, the food is ready.” David said as he stood up and came to me. He held out his hand and helped me up. He helped me to the dining room and sat me in my chair. I looked at a plate a fettuccini Alfredo with baked chicken. “Is this the special meal you talked about?” I asked. “Yeah, you ordered it on our second date.” David said. “You try to hard.” I said and Will snickered. “Why do you say that?” David asked. “You’re trying to impress me when you don’t have to. It’s sweet still, so thank you.” I said grabbing my fork. “Yeah, don’t try so hard.” Will teased. “Don’t listen to him David. He can’t even remember my favorite food.” Audra said. “That’s not true! It’s fajitas!” Will said and Audra shook her head. “Wrong.” Audra said and David started to chuckle. “You said you loved them that time we were in Seattle and we stopped at that off the wall place.” Will said. “Saying I love these, is different from saying this is my favorite food.” Audra said glaring at Will. I ate and watched as they bickered about foods. After we were done, they still debated. “I guess I don’t know then.” Will said defeated. “Fine.” Audra said angry. “Well I should get Ryan in bed.” David said standing up. “Of course.” Audra said standing up and tossing her napkin down. “Good night Ryan.” Will said as he departed the table as well. I listen to the bickering continue out the door. David came back and held out his hand. “What’s your favorite food?” I asked and David smiled. “Ya know I’m pretty simple. I really like comfort foods and a good fried chicken is my favorite.” He said as I took his hand and we made our way to the bedroom. “I love Alfredo pasta, that’s my favorite.” I said and David opened the door to the bedroom. “Wait, then why did you give me grief about it?” He asked and I scoffed. “You picked that dinner out of remembering I ordered it on a date, not because it was my favorite.” I said matter of factly. “You just enjoy being difficult.” David said. “Untrue!” I said slightly laughing. “Yeah ok. You didn’t argue about work and then give me that crap about dinner.” David seemed somewhat annoyed as he walked over taking my robe off. “I’m sorry if I upset you.” I said as I laid down. “No, it’s ok.” David sighed as he got changed into his pajamas. “Well if you’re upset, it’s not ok.” I said. “I’m not upset.” David came and got into bed. He leaned over and gave me a kiss. “Now, rest so you won’t fight me in missing anymore work.” David said.
