We walked out of the house and towards Audra’s. “None of that happened today. We had a good time.” I said with my arms crossed. “They’ll never buy it.” Audra said as we stopped between our houses. “They know how her and George are. They already know we didn’t have a good time and they aren’t even home yet.” Audra said crossing her arms as well. “I don’t want David to know what she said. Or him to think when the mark does happen, it’s to stick it to his family.” I said and Audra nodded. “I understand.” As Audra spoke a car pulled up behind her. She turned and watched as Will got out. “Afternoon ladies.” Will said walking over holding a briefcase. “You’re early.” Audra said. “Well I got your text and decided it was time to come home.” Will leaned forward placing a kiss on her forehead. “She was calling me half breed again.” Audra said and her sound hurt. “I’m sorry babe.” Will hugged her. “I’m assuming it had something to do with Ryan being human and that’s why she brought up you were half breed?” Will asked and Audra looked at him real quick. “Well now for sure they’re never going to believe we had a good time.” I said with a huff. “Oh I would’ve never believed that.” Will said looking at me quickly. “I told you.” Audra said. “Can we all agree to not tell David then?” I asked and Will looked at Audra. “Oh Will.” Audra sighed. “What?” I asked. “He told David there was issues and that’s what he left early.” Audra said. “I linked it so she wouldn’t know.” Will whispered. “David is going to tell her anyways.” Audra said. “What do I tell him now?” I said sighing. “Go with that you had a good time thing. He’ll get a kick out of it.” Will laughed. I scoffed and walked back to the house. I went in and walked to the living room to come up with my next plan. I heard the door and straighten up. David walked into the living room and sat down next to me. “How was your day?” I asked and he put his arm around me. “How bad was it?” David asked. “It was alright.” I said and David’s mouth slowly curled into a smile. “It was fine.” I said and David stared. “Are you trying to convince me or yourself?” David asked. “Ok, what did Will tell you?” I asked. “Well he said he had to leave early because Audra was upset. You know it takes a lot to upset her?” David said and I stayed quiet. “Come on, tell me what happened.” David said nudging me. “Audra was upset because Harmony called her half breed a lot.” I said and David looked annoyed. “And?” He asked. “And I’ve never seen her that angry!” I said remembering Audra being upset. “Ryan, why did she bring up Audra was a half breed?” David asked seriously. “Oh David I don’t want to upset you. Yes it was terrible.” I said standing up. “We have to be to Audra’s in fifteen minutes for dinner. So I would rather not upset you.” I said. “Maybe I want to be upset. I want to know.” David stood. “After, I promise.” I said and David’s mouth stayed in a hard line. “Alright.” David grabbed my hand lacing our fingers. We walked out and to Will’s house. David knocked and looked at me. “How are you feeling?” He asked and I smiled. “A little better today.” I said as the door opened. “Early!” Will said stepping aside. “She won’t tell me what happened so here we are or I’m going to pester her until we’re both upset.” David said as we walked in. “Audra is still upset. Harmony was calling her half breed again.” Will said. “Yeah, Ryan told me about that. Has to be her telling Ryan half breed kids would be made fun of or something like last time.” David said as Will nodded. “Exactly what it was.” Will started towards his living room and David looked at me. “Your brother doesn’t keep secrets.” I said and David started towards the living room. “She doesn’t want to make me upset, so what do you know?” David asked Will. Will looked between us. “George was trying to get Harmony to convince Ryan to reject you and leave while she ‘still had the chance.’” Will said and I deflated. “You’re joking.” David was obviously upset from the tone of his voice. “I didn’t want to cause problems. I want to have a nice dinner and not give them the impression I’m terrible because I’m a human.” I said feeling a ping of sadness to my voice. They looked from me to each other. “I don’t think I can pretend it didn’t happen.” David said. “Audra has refused to come down.” Will said. “Then we’ll skip it.” David stood and as he did a knock came at the door. “Too late for that.” Will said getting up. “Why didn’t you tell me. We could’ve avoided this entire thing.” David said very upset. “I told you. They think humans are just evil and I’m trying to get away from that.” I whispered. “Well I-“ David stopped and looked over at a child that ran in. He was a tiny George for sure. “Woahhhhh!” He looked at me like I was a alien. “This is Bradly.” I heard Harmony’s voice approaching behind me. “Hi Bradly, I’m Ryan.” I said and smiled. “Hey.” He said lifting his phone and snapping a picture. “We talked about this!” Harmony said grabbing his phone. “Mom! I won’t have anything to do!” Bradly whined. “Behave!” She scolded and he plopped into the chair. “Then there’s Dom who said it was a terrible idea!” George walked in and sat on the couch across from us. Harmony sat down by him as quiet fell around the room. “Where’s Audra?” Harmony asked sweetly. “She has a headache.” Will answered quickly. “Nonsense, the human gets a concussion but can still attend lunch and dinner.” Harmony said and I looked at David. “Ryan. Her name isn’t human, it’s Ryan.” David strained himself to hold back “Oh apologies, Ryan.” Harmony smiled. “What’s it like being human?” Bradly suddenly asked. “Um, it’s ok I guess.” I said and Bradly rolled his eyes. “No! What’s it like not having any power or really any ability.” Bradly sat on the edge of his seat and everyone stared at me. “I’m not sure how to answer that. I just feel like myself. It would be cool to have some kind of special abilities. Unless you count being really good at math a ability.” I said and Bradly stared in awe. “Cool.” He said. “Anyways, I’ll go fetch Audra.” Harmony said. “No, you won’t. She doesn’t want to see anyone.”Will said. “If this has to do with lunch, everything was fine. Tell them Ryan.” Harmony looked at me and smiled her fake smile. “No, she told me you called her half breed again.” Will said and Harmony scoffed. “Harmony!” George sat forward. “I only did what you asked!” Harmony said looking at him. “And what was that?” David asked with his eyes firmly set on George. “I didn’t ask you to berate Audra!” George said. “You didn’t, I get it. I was trying to make my point! David, I’m sorry. You know humans are trouble.” Harmony looked down at her hands. “We’re leaving.” David stood up. “Don’t leave.” George said. “No. I’m not going to sit her and let you put down my mate for being born a certain way.” David said pulling me up. “Aw man!” Bradly whined. “It was nice to meet you little man.” I said with a wave. “David!” George yelled as he led me to the door. “DAVID!” This bellow made my knees weak, but for David it only made him turn. “What!?” David said. “I didn’t mean harm. I’m looking out for you and the pack.” George said and David’s grip on me tighten. “Then you would respect how I feel about her.” David said as we walked out.
