Chapter 28 - Asking Audra.

*David’s perspective.*

“Sorry I’m late.” I said sitting down to dinner.

“No no, you’re just in time.” Audra said letting me in the door. I walked around the corner.

“Oh, Harmony. I didn’t expect you. Thought Sunday nights you had book club or something.” I said sitting in the nearest arm chair.

“Ugh you’re right, he reeks of human.” Harmony said looking at George.

“Come on you guys.” Will said.

“Just so you know, it’s not a book club. It’s a mommy and me group. Now that Bradly is ten, he doesn’t want to go anymore.” Harmony seemed annoyed by this.

“That’s too bad. Maybe there’s something else you can do to bond.” I said as Audra came in, sticking a drink in my hand.

“Where is my nephew?” Will asked.

“He wanted to stay home. Said he would be bored.” George said looking around at us.

“When are you both going to have pups anyways? It’s been three years since you marked.” Harmony asked and everyone looked at them.

“It’s on our list.” Will said flatly.

“Fine fine. David wasn’t there something you wanted to ask Audra?” George said.

“I think it was you that wanted to ask.” I said.

“You want to ask about my parents. Will already told me.” Audra said looking to all of us. Everyone was at full attention. “As far as my parents used to say was, when my mom met my dad. She told him after they had been together for awhile. He knew something was up because she didn’t talk about where she came from. He was shocked, but accepting.” Audra said.

“Eventually they went back to your moms pack lands?” I asked.

“Yes, when she was pregnant with me. They loved back to Eastmoon in case I was were, I could be brought up with other weres.” Audra said.

“David that’s another thing, your kids could be mostly human.” George said and Harmony gasped.

“First, kids? That’s way too soon to talk about. Second, who cares? No one is going to care George.” I said slightly annoyed.

“They’ll be teased David!” Harmony added.

“There isn’t even any kids!” I said getting mad.

“HEY! You will not talk to my wife like that!” George said as Harmony smugly looked at me.

“Ok that’s enough from all of it. Let’s go eat.” Audra said. Everyone started to get up and I stayed. Audra stopped and put her hand on my shoulder. “Don’t listen to anyone David. Do what you want to do. Ryan doesn’t seem like the type of person to get scared and run away.” Audra whispered.

“Thank you.” I said grabbing her hand and giving it a slight squeeze.

“Come on, let’s go eat.” Audra said and I got up.

*Ryan’s perspective*

I woke up the next morning with a smile on my face. Everything felt like my life was coming together. That starting this new chapter in my life was the best decision for me. I grabbed my phone and looked at it. My smiled dropped when I saw multiple messages from Matt. It seemed it was a possibility he got drunk and text me several times. I ignored most of them and typed.

“There’s nothing left to be said between us. I only want to hear where is my car. Is my car ready to be picked up?” I sent and got up. I grabbed out my clothes for the day. A cute blouse and a nice business skirt. I started to get changed and my phone buzzed. I grabbed it and read Matt’s message.

“I forgive you for anything that’s happened, we can fix this.” His message read and I dropped my hands. He was never going to get it. I decided to ignore it and finish getting ready. I went through my morning routine and left a little early. I walked to the cafeteria and grabbed a coffee.

“Good morning Ms. Williams!” I heard and turned. Audra waved as she approached.

“Oh Audra! Hi! You can call me Ryan by the way.” I said taking that first sip of coffee and letting it fill my soul.

“Ok, it’s a deal. Heard you and David made it official. Does that mean I’ll see you soon at my house for dinner?” She asked sweetly.

“Oh, does David go there often?” I asked.

“Yes. Will and him are close. Then there’s George who shows up from time to time.” Audra said and I nodded.

“David’s told me about them. George is like the mayor or something right?” I asked and Audra slowly smiled before nodding.

“Yes, he’s the mayor.” Audra said but her voice was strange. Almost amused by what I said.

“Well, just let me know when. I would be happy to attend a dinner with you and Will.” I smiled.

“Lovely! I have to get David and Will their coffees before everything goes downhill and the company collapses.” She said and I laughed.

“Nice talking to you!” I said as I made my way to the accounting department. I walked in and saw the Sam standing by my cubicle. As I got closer I noticed Angela there as well.

“Ryan! How was your weekend?” Angela perked up when she saw me.

“It was good.” I said as I walked into my cubicle and sent my stuff down.

“How good is good?” Sam asked sweetly.

“You can tell us!” Angela said slightly poking me.

“There’s nothing to tell.” I said with a laugh as I turned my computer on.

“So I didn’t see David leave your place Sunday morning?” Sam asked and my cheeks flushed.

“See! There is something to tell!” Angela giggled and gave me a side hug. I noticed Sam looking around my neck.

“Are you checking me for hickies weirdo?” I asked feeling uncomfortable.

“No no! I thought I saw you were wearing a necklace. I don’t see one now…” She trailed off and looked at Angela.

“Oh no, I didn’t wear jewelry today.” I said looking down. Angela let out a breathy smile.

“We’ll back to work shall we?” Angela said and they both made a quick exit. The people here could be so weird sometimes.
