I woke up to the smell of bacon. I got out of bed and walked out into the living room.
“There you are! Nice pajamas.” Tonya said from the kitchen.
“Feeling better?” I asked walking over to the coffee pot. “Oh the pot is full! Thank god!” I poured a cup and went to the fridge.
“I wanted to have everything ready for you. As a thank you for taking care of me.” She said with a sad sort of tone to her voice.
“Hey it’s not a issue. I had a feeling if I didn’t, you would be waking up at Ed’s or somewhere worse.” I said walking over to my small table and sitting down.
“You don’t have plates, so I put it on this platter.” Tonya said bringing me my grandma antique platter full of breakfast foods.
“Thank you. It figures he would take the plates.” I said grabbing a fork and digging in. Tonya walked over with her own coffee and a pie tin with her own breakfast. We both started to chuckle at the display.
“I’m going to call a cab to take me back to my car.” Tonya said as she ate.
“Are you sure? I can drop you off on my way. I’m just going to Ironridge, it’s not far away.” I said sipping off my coffee.
“Ironridge? You got a interview there?” Tonya was surprised. Ironridge corporation had many levels and dealt in many different things. I think the truth was, I really didn’t know exactly what they did.
“Yeah, data analysis. A lot like what I did for you.” I said and she nodded.
“I would skip it. I worked there when I was your age and I swear it’s run by a mob or something.” Tonya said taking another bite.
“It’s the only place hiring! I need money for plates apparently.” I said sighing as Tonya laughed.
“Well the taxi I called is here.” Tonya held up her phone. “Tell me how it goes.” Tonya stood up and came over giving me a quick side hug.
“I will! I’ll message you later.” I said as she walked over and grabbed her purse.
“Bye!” She waved as she walked out. I checked the time. I have a hour to get ready and be out the door. Panic washed over me as I stood and made my way to the bedroom. I started digging through my closet. Some nice dress pants, a white button up blouse, and some chunky necklaces. I could wear my hair up and those nice high heels I haven’t found a occasion for. I got dressed and started on my make up. Keeping it light, I have to seem professional. I stared at the bags under my eyes. My pale skin made them stand out even more as I tried to conceal them. I looked at the clock. Oh god, I don’t have enough time to do my hair! I’m going to have to braid it. My hair was slightly long and wavy. Most the time I straighten it and either did a high pony or left it down. I looked in the mirror and started cursing myself that I didn’t get my hair cut or dyed for this. My hair was a light brown, but I loved when I went blonde. I quickly braided my hair and looked in the mirror. My nerves were high as I looked at myself. You got this Ryan. You can do this! I told myself and with a deep breath, I was off.
It was a short drive to Ironridge headquarters. Thankfully they had their own packing garage so I didn’t have to find parking. I got out of my car and grabbed my purse. I picked up a few papers of my work and a resume. I took another deep breath and walked to the front doors. I held the handle and took a breath. Right when I pulled it open. I was hit by something. Something? Someone! I pushed myself up.
“I’m so sorry! I thought you saw me coming!” I heard a deep heavenly voice and looked up. A man in a nice navy suit stood there with his hand out. I grabbed it and he pulled me up. “Let me help you!” He said as he picked up my papers. “My goddess I’m so stupid.” He whispered. I grabbed the stuff the fell from my purse and quickly put it back in.
“It’s ok, it’s really ok.” I said and turned. I watched him for a moment and noticed he was reading my resume. “Excuse me?” I asked somewhat taken aback at how he could be reading my personal information.
“My apologies, you must be here about the data analysis job.” He said handing my papers to me.
“Oh yes, I’m a little early but I like to be as close to on time as I can get.” I said and he smiled. There was something about his smile that sent shivers up my spine. His beautifully tan skin made his pearly white teeth shine. His dark black hair was so nicely slicked to the side. He was absolutely gorgeous.
“Well Ryan is it?” He asked and I nodded. “I’m David Featherman.” He held out his hand and I shook it. His touch made me want to melt away.
“Nice to meet you.” I said and smiled like a goof ball. He chuckled and then started fishing his pockets. “Did you lose something in the fall?” I asked.
“No, here we are!” He pulled out a card. “There are many people going for the job you’re here for. If it falls through. Call my secretary. I may have something you’re suited for.” He said as I took the card. “Make sure you call!” He said as a car pulled up and he got in. I looked back at the card. David Featherman Ironridge CFO. CFO!? I turned back as the car pulled away. Did I seriously just face plant into the CFO of the company?
