Illyra's Pov.. "How on earth do you expect me, a mere human like me, to steal from the powerful Lycan King in that same city?" I cried out to Derek with my voice breaking. "Someone who would kill me in a blink!" Derek's eyes flashed with anger as he yelled back at me. "That's not my business Lyra! That's the only way to pay for everything I've invested in you!" My heart shattered as his words hit me like daggers. "But why? Why on earth was I even your mate and being a mere human all this while?" I knew that my life was tumbling piece by piece ever since the day I set my eyes on something inhumane, the day he claimed me like I belonged to him or I won't survive it. How would I have known the existence of people like this, I thought things were falling in place, I thought…thought that finally, God was answering my prayers. "I paid for your fees, I paid for your clothes, I helped your mother and gave her life only for you to become worthless to me and my pack!" Derek's voice echoed through the room. "There's no way I would be mated to a weak human. The reason why I took you out of there was because I thought there must have been a mistake putting you there as my mate but what are you? A human" "It makes no sense!" I yelled back, tears streaming down my face. "It makes no sense to treat me this way because I was all alone and you came like a stranger to take everything away!" Derek's face hardened as he stepped closer. "You have 24 hours to go and meet the Lycan King and get the Jade Key. All of this you're saying, you're just bluffing." He threatened and I swallowed hard. I went back to work that day, and I'd been extremely clumsy from the way I served the drinks, the food, from the way I greeted everybody. In fact, it got worse that I even slipped and poured the drink on a visitor's clothing, which earned me a slap and a buzz. "What the hell is going on with you today?" my boss Simon asked, his brows furrowed with concern. "If you need a day off, you should just go home." Instead of answering, I burst out crying and ran out of the restaurant. I couldn't tell him the truth. How could I explain that I was supposed to steal from the most dangerous man alive? I was living as a normal human girl in the city of California but I was being exported like a bird to a more powerful city that was even better than New York. It was called the Silver Clone Pack but everything changed when he discovered that I was not a human, and right now I was shaking, crying, and pleading with him that this mission he wanted me to embark on was going to be a dangerous one. I had researched this man I was supposed to steal a jade key from. Kaelen Draven – The feared Alpha of the Nightblood Pack, powerful, ruthless, and hiding a centuries-old legacy and a key that could change everything. He wore it on his neck like it was glued to him forever. The powerful King was not just an Alpha, he was a tyrant and a killer, someone who did not care about anyone's existence. So how on earth was I going to do this? It was said that he frequented a nightclub, so that night I tried and went there but the moment I entered inside, a man smacked my ass and dragged me to the table so I could dance. "I'm not a slut!" I yelled, trying to pull away from his grip. "How on earth are you even here in the first place then?" he sneered, his breath reeking of alcohol. Nothing I ever tried to say could be heard over the loud music. So, in the midst of my dilemma with the hungry, horny i***t, I felt a presence walk in. It was like a moon. His eyes were dark and nothing on this earth could make anyone look at such eyes as he walked as if he owned the place. Even though I didn't see him clearly, his pictures were like nightmares burned into my soul. He walked with other men who were definitely his guards or even his fellow men in power. I knew that was exactly him, and I knew that there was no way I would be able to stand before this man to do any nonsense. Instead, I went to see the manager of the club and begged him so he could hire me. "I was working for Simon Roger who's well-known," I mentioned desperately. “I will work very diligently, I promise.” The man sized me up and down in a perverted manner, staring at my boobs and my ass. "You can start tomorrow and see how good you can be because there's going to be an event the next day and you must not be late." I nodded quickly and went home; despite the sudden rainfall, only to see my belongings and my mom being thrown outside under the rain. I cried and asked my mom what happened. "The Alpha King threw us out and we're left with nothing," she said weakly, her frail body shivering in the cold rain. My heart broke as I realized what this meant. "Mom, no..." "The Alpha King said that 24 hours had passed and what would happen next was to kill us," she whispered, her voice barely audible above the rain. I cried and begged for more time, saying that I was going to try my best to get it from him, from the Lycan King, tomorrow. We called Derek, and right before my mother, I begged him through the phone that he should not do this to us. "That's your business," Derek's cold voice came through the speaker. "But the only thing you have to do is get the Jade Key. The only reason why I haven't killed you both is because I'm giving you another grace. By tomorrow, your corpse and your mother's will be sent back to New York." The line went dead, and I stared at the phone in horror. My mother looked at me with tired, loving eyes despite everything we were going through. "Baby, what are we going to do?" she asked softly. I held her close as the rain continued to fall on us. "I don't know, Mom. But I'll figure something out. I promise."
