The chat went absolutely wild.
WWESuperAllStar:
She f****d him and then killed him? That’s cold.
PurplePen1sEater:
Right? That’s f****d up as hell.
IAmGossipGirl:
I heard she has 0 sanity. Like literally none. No wonder she started killing people.
BooBearBB:
She traded me 50 oxygen bubbles the first day for the crack pipe I came in with. It doesn’t do anything except enable you to smoke. No stats at all. She really is bonkers.
WWESuperAllStar:
Lol, what does she think she’s gonna do with it? Smoke seaweed? Surprised she’s even still alive after trading away 50 oxygen bubbles!
BooBearBB:
Right? Even if she did want to smoke seaweed, where’s she even going to find a light underwater?
IAmGossipGirl:
She could always go to the island and make a fire…
BooBearBB:
I’d like to see her try, I’ll give her the NightMuncher treatment, see how she likes it.
LovelyLily
I don’t know, he had an 11 in strength and she still managed to kill him…
IAmGossipGirl:
Yeah, that and she had 50 oxygen bubbles she could just trade away like that? She might be more dangerous than we realize.
BooBearBB:
She probably just caught him off guard. I mean, would you expect to be killed during s*x? And she probably just got lucky with a good loot chest for the oxygen bubbles.
LovelyLily
Yeah, I guess CoinNerd69 really is the best player. @CoinNerd69, No hard feelings, right? I’d never do something like what SwallowStar420 did. Well, not to you, at least…
PurplePen1sEater:
Omg Lily, you’re such a cheeky slut.
LovelyLily
How else is a simple girl supposed to survive in this game? @CoinNerd69, private message me, and I’ll send you some pics just like I did with NightMuncher8000.
This girl was really pushing my buttons. Who did she think she was, trying to sleep her way to the top? Although, I suppose with the new leaderboard, that might be what the game wants us to do. Still, did she have to be so…public about it? It was gross.
And hitting on every powerful guy with no loyalty? It was disgusting.
MeepMeep:
Now that there’s a s****l leaderboard, we need more sluts! So far, SwallowStar420 is the only one to have put out, and she’s clearly a psycho.
BooBearBB:
Yeah, I’m all for Lily filling the slut deficiency here. NightMuncher said she has huge “assets” haha.
I rolled my eyes and closed the server chat. They’re all a bunch of neanderthals! And SwallowStar420? I would have to make sure to stay away from her. I wouldn’t be rude, I couldn’t afford to draw the wrath of a powerful, murderous player like that, but I’d certainly try to avoid her.
Just as I was thinking that, I got a private message from her.
SwallowStar420:
Lol, girl, I didn’t even mean to kill that guy. It was a total accident.
An accident?
Lovergirl89:
How the heck do you KILL a man by accident?
SwallowStar420:
I stabbed him with the sword in my mouth and then he immediately turned into blood, lmao! Just gone! I took his oven though :)
Okay, the rumors were true. This girl was totally insane. Was this what a zero sanity looked like? Was she hallucinating? Did she go into a murderous rage? I doubted I’d ever find out, since she clearly was too far gone to make any sense whatsoever.
Lovergirl89:
Oh…that’s really cool.
I tried to type the most polite response back to not provoke her, and closed my chat window.
Okay, if people are already getting to the island, I needed to work on powering up. I clicked on my oxygen pool timer.
LVL 1 OXYGEN BUBBLE STATS:
Oxygen timer: 46:25:11
Oxygen depletion speed -40% when off-station
10ft radius
Transferable at a 1:1 ratio to refill oxygen tank (common) or above
1x oxygen bubble gives a 30-minute oxygen pool timer boost
Upgrade requirements:
10x wood
20x stone
100x oxygen bubble
Player lvl reaches 2
I already had the stone and plenty of oxygen bubbles. Level 2 wouldn’t be too hard if I could find some more fish to kill. I only need 29 more XP to get to level 2.
But wood? There’s none of that underwater. That’s only available on the new island. And since it’s just opened, it’s a hot spot for the strongest players to grind right now. I really don’t want to run into a few of these men that are working together.
Maybe if I went at night it would be safer? Or would that just allow them to ambush me when there’s lower visibility?
Whatever, I’ll mull it over while I take care of the level 2 requirement.
I filled up my oxygen tank and headed out.
I set out to find fish to kill. I hadn’t been seeing many in the kelp fields that are densely packed with oxygen bubbles, so I headed the other way, into open water.
After about 45 minutes, I started seeing fish. I kept going in the same direction, killing the fish I saw along the way.
+1XP
+1XP
+1XP
Eventually, I was at the point where I only needed one more XP point to level up, when suddenly, all of the fish around me disappeared.
I barely had time to wonder what had just happened, when something big and fast came into view.
LEVEL 1 BOSS: SHARK
I dodged out of the way just in time to not be caught in it’s first attack, but it was fast as lightning, and quickly whipped around in a loop.
I narrowly avoided another attack, and jabbed it in the gills with my trident. Its HP bar dropped by a third.
It came at me again, and I avoided getting bitten by kicking off of its head, but its HP bar barely moved at all. I had to land two more trident hits on this fast agressive beast.
I pushed off a rock and dodged him once again, replacing where I was with my trident to land another hit.
His HP bar shrank. One more hit, and then I’ll be level 2.
I tried to dodge him again, but he slammed into me this time. I took 5 HP Damage. I pushed him off and lunged away, thanking whatever god there was that made this hellish afterlife that I didn’t get bitten.
That’s when I remembered my net. As the shark came at me again, I pulled it from my inventory and threw it over him. It wasn’t strong enough to hold him, but it slowed him down enough that I was able to land my final hit and finish him.
LEVEL 1 BOSS DEFEATED
+50 meat
+Shark fin upgrade shard
+Shark fin soup x10
Next, I opened my new private system message.
Dear Player,
Congratulations on making it to level 2. All your stats have been increased by 1. We have also attached a loot chest to this email.
Server Management Team
+1 to all my stats? That was insane. Would that happen every time I leveled up?
I opened the level 2 loot chest.
+Uncommon Armor
+Uncommon Running Shoes
+50 stone
I was honestly a little disappointed after the reward I had gotten for building the deep sea reverse osmosis water filter, but I guess this one is less good because it’s an award every player can win, not a first player only reward.
I wondered how good NightMuncher’s reward must have been for making it to the island first.
I check the stats on the items I got.
Uncommon Armor stats:
-10% HP loss in combat
Once in a while, has a chance to block enemy attacks, taking 90% less damage
Okay, that was actually pretty good. I didn’t know how often once in a while would be, though, and I didn’t trust it too much since the game seemed to want to kill us. But guaranteed 10% HP reduction per hit? That could mean the difference between life and death.
I checked the other one.
Uncommon Running Shoes:
+30% speed when running on land
This one could also easily save my life when I go to the island tomorrow. I’m already extremely agile, but with the speed boost from these? No one will be able to catch me.
Maybe it’s not as special as the first reward, but this didn’t turn out to be a bad haul at all.
I felt as prepared as I could possibly be to go to the island tomorrow morning. All I could do now is to rest and recover my stamina. That fight with the level 1 boss really wiped me out. I can’t imagine how I would deal with a strong player if i couldnt run from them.
I decided I would go in the early morning, both for the best visibility, and because I hoped to beat anyone else there so I would see them coming.
I tucked myself into my hospital bed, groaning in relief as the effects begin to restore the HP I lost. I decided to check my updated stats list before I drifted off.
Lovergirl89 stats:
Strength: 7 (You top out around 125 pounds)
Agility: 9 [+3] (You’re just a bit slower than a shark)
Intelligence: 10 (You’re almost as superior as you think you are now)
Constitution: 8 (A fit adult female)
HP: 65/80 (What, you think we’d give you HP for free just because your max went up?)
Hunger: 65/100 (Did you forget to eat?)
Thirst: 0/100 (You drank when you got back)
Sanity: 98/100 (A little crack?)
Stamina: 10/110 (Critical, more activity could lead to muscle lockdown)
Fatigue: 83/100 (You’re exhausted, why don’t you lay down and sleep a while…)
Whoa, one extra strength point enabled me to lift fifty more pounds? That was a serious step up!
And s**t, I did forget to eat. I was running on so much adrenaline I didn’t even realize I was hungry. I made a mental note to be more careful. That kind of slip up can be deadly in a game like this.
I pulled one of the shark fin soup cans from my inventory. It wasn’t completely cold, but it wasn’t the piping hot temperature you’d want soup to be. But the broth was rich and creamy, and it was filled with rice. After just a few bites, I felt better, less irritable, and my stamina and hunger bars had noticeably improved. Even my fatigue bar went down a bit.
I finished the soup, full and content, and drifted off to sleep.
