Endless Night in Custody The detention facility. The order from the partition: “Choose a bed and do not change it!” I was alone in the cell... That calmed me down. I quickly dressed, chose the bed and sat down. Within a second I felt terribly cold. It came from the icy metal bed, from the frozen-through walls and the air, from endless drafts from the open window... The lights were on all the time. Round the clock. It was hard to get used to that. Anxiety was nagging. I realized that it was just the beginning. So I kept gazing at the bulb non-stop — for a long time, for minutes, hours... At times I would close my eyes and then again watch. In the end the fatigue appeared to be stronger. Numerous bolts of adrenaline, fear, despair, long assaults and interrogations... I wanted to lie down. I
