*Hera's POV*
My eyes popped out as it met with the smoky and inquisitive gaze of the Alpha and the council of elders.
I didn't even know how to start pleading.
How would I explain that an unknown man got me pregnant? If it was just the Alpha that was here, I would have tried to reason with him though it wasn't an easy task to take on but with the council here??
That was the end of everything I believed in.
"Hera, a gamma claims to have overheard an outrageous confession and we've come to inquire if it's true or not?." The eldest man spoke up and I could hear Riella chuckling in excitement.
This is all she ever wanted!!
Meanwhile, Hannah stood before me sobbing with her gaze down and that was all the elders needed to ascertain the claims.
"Since you've decided to be infidel, then your status has been reduced. For the sake of the goddess, you will live among the people as a commoner." The Alpha declared, his voice dripping with authority.
"And you Hannah, you have concealed such an outrageous act from the hearing of anyone .... So you are no longer the head maid but an ordinary maid reduced to the scrubbing of walls and washing of dishes." Alpha Aiden declared and my heart felt pity for Hannah who I had just decreased her life because of my predicament.
"Thank you so much, my Lord." She bowed between sobs and confusion filled my head.
Maybe she was thinking she was going to be killed for treason.
After the incident with the Alpha, the moment I stepped outside everyone began jeering.
Infidel woman.
Prostitute!!
I warned you that there's nothing you would ever do to avert suffering.
You're doomed.
The voices in my head mixed up with the voices of the people insulting me and it took all my willpower for me not to pass out.
Just give in, you ungrateful being!
You're just a horror show!
You're a stone cold monster.
There's darkness in the distance and you can't resist it.
These words I dreaded the most!!
I don't think I would be able to live through this insult and the fact that I had been thrown out of the palace, where was I supposed to leave?
I think Alpha Aiden Lupa did this to punish me because I wasn't allowed to leave the pack but I was given no housing.
Each day, I slept at the shrine of the goddess because that was the only place I could stay without receiving a curse.
And each day I laid my head to rest there, I prayed to the goddess to save my soul and that of my unborn children.
They didn't deserve this kind of suffering even if their father was an asshole to lay with me and run!
If not for Hannah who stole food out of the palace for me, by now I would have been a dead corpse left without any form of funeral rites.
No one throughout the pack allowed me to work with them or even take me in!
They all detested me like I was some form of plague.
It hurts!! It just hurts to feel this hatred.
I couldn't keep risking Hannah's life because if she got caught for stealing, the Alpha would pronounce her dead immediately.
This was my life, my story, my suffering!!!
I had to face this head on alone even if I didn't deserve it.
I had to leave this pack somehow but I needed the help of an insider.
Firstly, to bring out my things and also to show me another exit out of this pack.
Hannah!!
If only she could help me this once, I would never have to disturb her again.
I went to the back of the pack where I and Hannah usually met and in no time she showed up.
"Hera, here's your lunch. Just manage it, I wasn't able to bring enough because the new head maid is so strict." She whispered and I just nodded my head in understanding.
As she turned to leave, I beckoned to her.
"Hannah." I called and she swerved, walking back to meet me with inquisitiveness written all over her.
"I need your help with something really important." I whispered looking back and forth to ensure that no one was within earshot.
"What is it?." She mused, leaning in to hear me clearer.
"I have to leave this pack!." I said and her mouth fell open.
"Hera, no!." She begged as tears formed in her eyes.
"I have to do this Hannah, I can't keep pestering for as long as I live. How about when time is due for the baby to be born? How would we —would i— go about it? " I asked, trying to make her see reasons with me.
"The Alpha already placed a rule that you're not allowed to leave and besides where do you want to go? You can't return to your pack because you know they'll immediately alert the Alpha." Hera stated.
"That's it, Hera. That's why I need your help. I won't go back to my pack. " I reiterated.
"So where do you have in mind?. She questioned with tilted brows.
"I have to go and live among humans!!." I answered and her eyes popped out in surprise.
"Humans!!! All right if you think that would make things right! So what do I have to do?." She asked and a ray of hope ignited in my heart.
"I need some of my belongings and I need to know if there's another secret exit because I can't use the main gate." I asked and she heaved a sigh.
"There's a tunnel, meet me here at 11:30 on. That's the only time you can leave the pack without gathering attention. She explained and I nodded.
I walked back to the shrine with my head held up in confidence and as soon as the clock struck 11:30 pm, I was at the back of the palace.
Hera was there with my things and led me to the tunnel.
Taking one long last look at the pack house, I crept into the tunnel.
"Bye Hannah!."
"Be safe, Hera!."
