SARAH'S POV:
“Drew Davenport.”
I hear Beth's sharp intake of breath, and I know that I've f****d up. But it's not like I had any other options.
I wasn't about to allow Robert take our lives just because I was trying to protect the identity of a man who I had no affiliation with irrespective of the threat he posed to my mother's life.
“Owner of the club Ecstasy.” Robert says as his expression hardens into a scowl.
Wait – how did he know that?! One glance at Beth makes me realise that she's also asking herself the same question.
“How – how did you know that?!” I ask in a shocked tone as my eyes widen comically in shock.
“He is my business partner and one of my closest friends.” Robert says in a cold tone as an empty look enters his eyes.
Oh my god! Did we just allow ourselves to be used in a war between two friends?
“Thank you for your cooperation. You can go ahead and sign the contract.” Robert says in a tone that leads me to believe that he's only expressing his gratitude out of social obligation and not because he actually means it.
“I need a favour from you.” I say in a soft and hesitant tone.
I know that he is not obligated to help me due to our situation, but I can't help but try for my mother's sake.
Robert is quiet for a few seconds with a hard expression on his face before giving me a sharp nod that I choose to take as acquiescence.
“I want my mother to be properly guarded until she leaves the hospital.” I say while gulping loudly, scared that he might refuse my request.
“Done.” Robert says in a flat tone, not bothering to ask me what I need the security for.
I let out the breath I didn't know I was holding as I sign on the lines that forever bind my life to his.
“It's a good thing we are all on the same page. Now, you will do as I say with no questions asked.” Robert says harshly, causing my face to go pale in shock and fear.
“What?!” I stutter in shock.
“I want you to return to Drew Davenport. Say nothing about our agreement, and your job will be to help me raze him to the ground.” Robert says with a dark look on his face that makes me gulp in fear.
Good lord! What have I gotten myself into?!

SARAH'S POV:
Beth fixes the veil on my face once more as I stare at my reflection in the mirror. My makeup is impeccably done, and my simple white dress is one of the prettiest things I own.
“Remember that I'm going to be with you every single step of the way.” Beth promises in a solemn tone, and I can't help but smile gratefully at her.
Robert had basically bullied her into agreeing to be our witness for the marriage, Beth had agreed in order to support me.
We are currently in Beth's house where we had spent the night after the heist attempt on Robert Lincoln.
Robert had agreed to pick me up from here while another car will bring Beth to the ceremony.
A car honks from outside her building, and I can't help the groan of exasperation that escapes my lips. Beth squeezes my arms in support as she leads me out of the house.
I step into the car, and Beth closes the door behind me. My eyes remain fixed on Robert's figure, and I can't help the familiar sliver of fear that shoots through me.
“Are you comfortable with the terms of the contract?” Robert asks in a calm voice, breaking the solemn silence in the car.
“Yes, I am. I just have a few questions.” I say while clearing my throat nervously, not knowing how to broach the subject.
“I don't bite, Sarah. You can ask me anything.” Robert says in a low tone that would definitely sound seductive if I weren't so scared.
“About one of the terms, do you really expect me to carry your child?” I ask in a nervous tone as I squeeze my hands together, scared of what his answer might be.
“This is going to be a traditional marriage in all senses of the word. Is that going to be a problem?” Robert asks in a flat tone as he stares flatly at me.
I don't miss the dangerous edge in his words, and I realise in this moment that Robert is not a man to be undermined. I guess that's how he got his nickname in the business world. The ruthless billionaire.
My words remain lodged in my throat as I'm unable to come up with the right words to defend myself. Is this how my life is going to be from now on?
Only when he steps out of the car do I realise that the car has come to a stop. I follow after him, still in shock at his earlier statements.
Beth steps out of the car behind us, and she immediately hurries to my side. I can't help but feel slightly grounded with her presence beside me.
My eyes fly to the building in front of us, and the reality of my situation comes crashing down on me.
The Office of the City Clerk, where we are to register our marriage, has never looked so daunting.
“Let’s go,” Robert says, placing a firm hand on my lower back. He guides me inside the building, where we head straight to the reception desk.
The receptionist greets us with a warm smile, her friendliness almost jarring in contrast to the turmoil churning inside me. I manage a polite nod, but the words stick in my throat.
The process begins quickly. Robert hands over our identification and the completed online application. As the clerk processes the paperwork, I realise just how long Robert must have been planning this. The realisation makes my stomach churn.
Beth signs where she is requested to as a witness to our marriage.
Soon, we’re handed the Marriage License, and a clerk directs us to the small, plain room where the civil ceremony will take place.
The judge officiating the ceremony is already waiting, his expression neutral as he asks if we’re ready.
I sign the documents with a steady hand, despite the tremors I feel inside. I don’t let the doubts I’m drowning in stop me from doing what I must to save my mom’s life.
The judge reads the vows, and Robert repeats them in a voice so calm it unnerves me.
My voice, when it’s my turn, is softer, almost mechanical. I focus on the words, on getting through this, on keeping my hands from shaking too visibly.
When the ceremony ends, and we’re pronounced husband and wife, a wave of exhaustion washes over me. It’s done.

SARAH'S POV:
I step out behind Beth as Robert's car rolls to a stop in front of my apartment complex.
With a strict instruction to pack all the properties I would wish to take along with me to his house, Robert drove off, leaving us in front of my apartment.
Everything is just so surreal. I can't believe all that has happened in this short period of time.
Beth and I move to enter the apartment, but before we can get further than a few steps, a black minivan comes screeching to a stop in front of the building.
Before I can scream for help, the men whip out black bags, and they cover our faces as they throw us into the minivan.
Oh god! What have I gotten myself into?!!
