Austin POV
I had this feeling in my spine that something was off. Only being confirmed by Olivia trying to mind link with me. I could feel this faint link of hers. She hasn't tried it often as she is also too young yet to turn, but its there. As I have been wandering around the forest but close enough to Conan's house I try to focus on my senses. Thats when I hear an aggressive loud growl. A growl I don't recognise as any of the pack. I waste no moment, shifting I start running into the direction. Linking with Olivia after warning the pack, not trying to lose the direction. *Focus, where are you?*
*Sh.rt..Cut* Got it, knowing her, she went to see Josh. Right away knowing which short cut, I sprint towards them. Within one minute I can see them and this rogue wolf. Just in time as he is lunging himself towards Lena! Racing I jump and bump against him. Throwing us both to the ground. Immediately jumping myself back onto him. Wanting to rip him to pieces as he tried to get to Lena. Even that would not calm me down. Grabbing him at the throat I put my fangs as deep as I can, as he tries to get out of my grip I can not rip into him too much. Before letting him slip away I use all my left over strength within my mouth and body, I swing him away. Smashing him against the tree. I did not expect him to recover this quickly but thankfully one of my pack ran after him. I really want to check up on the girls but the moment I start to walk towards them I can feel the fear overtaking Lena. It makes me stop in my track as my own mate must feel repulsed by me. It hurts me.
Thankfully Olivia knows how to introduce me to her and she even found the courage to touch me. And OH her touch. Its heaven. With her touch her fear dripped away and made space for my happiness. My whole brain becomes mushy under her touch. I know Noah made me worry about Lena's well being if I let myself be affected by her. But I am not able to resist this feeling.
Lena POV
On our way back to Conan's house we got escorted by Gilroy. At first Olivia was walking in between us but that soon changed as Gilroy gave Olivia a small push with his nose to the right. Walking with us on either side of him. I started to forget all what happened. Laying my hand back on his neck, feeling his soft fur under my fingers. He released another soft growl.
From the other side of him I could hear Olivia laughing. Because of his enormous body I couldn't actually see her. "You must be touching him again" she laughed.
"Yes, I somehow feel myself drawn to touch him. He is just so fascinating. I never imagined wolves could get this huge."
We continued our walk back silently. Taking this creature into me, not even looking towards where I am walking. His paws make a soft thud noise with every step. Its such a mesmerising black. Just then the tip of my shoe gets stuck behind a tree root. Making me almost tumble forward. However Gilroy pushes me back up with his head. "Thank you. Wait uhm Olive. Do they understand what we say?"
Again laughing this time about my apparently absurd question. "Yes they understand it all"
Sometimes giving me a glance, with his deep amber eyes. We slowly reach their house. Gilroy stays close to where the trees end. He bows his head to us before walking off back into the woods.
"So there are more like him and you play with them in the woods?" I am getting so curious. This just can't be normal.
"Yeah, lets go inside and I will tell you more. I am getting hungry." As if nothing happened Olive care freely runs up towards the house. Glancing once more to the forest. Gilroy has disappeared.
Austin POV
After giving them a courteous bow. I quickly run around the house, shifting back to my human form. I run up the stairs of the house before they get in and see me naked. Thankfully I dropped by earlier when I left home to think. So I have fresh clothes laying upstairs. Quickly putting them on I try to cool myself down before going back down stairs. Taking a couple of breaths.
My timing is great as Lena just walks in while Olivia has disappeared inside the fridge. "Hey girls". I get a weak smile back from Lena, I can still smell some discomfort from her. Olivia however is saying hey from the fridge. I am surprised how well she is doing, she had never met a rogue before yet. It might be all the males around her that she is mentally so strong.
Pulling Lena against my side I stroke her arm with my hand. Trying to give some warmth so she will feel save again. "Thanks Olive, for making us something to snack!"
"Heeeeeee? Alright... Jelly sandwiches it is."
I look back at Lena. "Sorry for being late, are you ready to go after Olive's sandwich?" I get a weak nod.
"I have to get a shower first though" Only then I notice she is covered in mud smudges. This time I give her a nod without questioning her and off she goes.
-----
After eating the sandwiches Olivia made, Conan came back just before we walked out the door. Which is good as we both felt a bit unsure about leaving Olivia home alone. Especially with what just happened. The sun has set but that doesn't matter. It will be still good to go, it might refresh and cheer up Lena.
Opening the passenger seat for Lena she climbs in. Walking around the front of my car, I also get in. Turning myself to the back seat I grab some blankets. Laying those over her bare legs where her flowing dark red dress ends.
"I got more of those, so just let me know when you get cold"
"You are really well prepared"
"I always am, temperatures drop really quickly when it gets dark. So I always have a couple of them with me. Have to be prepared for the worse at all times." Honestly I can just run back when my car breaks down. But I did prepare them specially for her. Don't want her to freeze to death.
"So who is Lena?" I give her a sly smile. Trying to start some small talk to get to know who my mate it, besides this gorgeous sexy woman.
"The most hated question ever. I used to study Archaeology but it wasn't really meant for me. Its however impossible to find a job in another field. Even the lowest entry jobs these days require experience. It seems as if everyone is now starting to orient and work on their life achievements or goals from the age of 10. I can not compete with them as they have been working their whole life to get that certain job. But I have recently also been thinking that I might be satisfied with just doing something small, something maybe less significant in someone else eyes. Sorry for ranting."
Woow. I did not expect that. Apparently she is stressed about this.
"No its fine, I am happy you are comfortable enough and its nice to rant together. Then what would you see as less significant?"
"Like raising a family, or taking care of a small business. Maybe organising small creative events or starting a dog rescue."
"That sounds really lovely though" I could see myself coming home to her. With our children running around and maybe a couple of stray pups that we adopt.
"Its nothing compared to town chief though."
"Its not as grant as it may look. People only come to you when they have complains. Also the position was given to me. Its kind of a family thing. So I had no say in it." I am telling the truth. However I do feel as if I am lying to her...
"Don't you wish you could run away sometimes?"
"Yeah I do, would love to see the rest of the world. But Conan would be the next in line. Honestly, with the loss of his wife he has never been 100% emotionally stable. Even though he does look to be doing well with you around. But I can not just leave and put all the responsibility on him. Especially as he is also our towns doc. It would be too much for anyone. And Its not just him, it would also affect Olivia. She is already going through enough."
"For me it was less complicated to run away." She says with compassion.
"It never is easy though. You are strong for the decisions you made."
We drive further down. Leaving the town behind us, I drive up the road going up the mountain. After a couple of minutes, just before the climb ends I turn into a dirt road.
"Now I get why we might need those blankets. You sure you won't drive us of a cliff?"
"Haha don't worry. I have been here enough times to drive blindly."
"Please don't"
I smile at her.
"EYES ON THE ROAD!!! Wherever that road might be though" Cheerfully she starts laughing. She finally relaxed. With a small turn I drive a bit back, turning the car off.
"We are here" I smile at her. Even in the dark now that the car light are off. My eyes are immediately used to the darkness and I can see her lovely silhouette. Opening my door I again walk around the car to open the door for her. But I don't make immediate way. Instead I bow over her, grabbing the blanket and some more from the back. I can hear her heart racing. After releasing her from her seatbelt I pull back. I walk to the trunk of the car. Opening it up I throw the blankets in the trunk. With a thud I hear her close the car door.
"After you." I point at the trunk.
She tries to jump up, not succeeding, I grab her at her waist. Turning her around with her face towards me. I can hear her heart beat fasten. Slowly lifting her up on the trunk. With her feet dangling I take a seat next to her.
"Woow, is that the town?" The view of the town was spread out in front of us. All the lights from the houses and some street lights made the town twinkle. As the moon was shining moonlight is reflecting from a stream running on the left of town. Lighting up some trees. The horizon is filled with trees eventually turning into mountains with white tops.
I can feel Lena shivering. Wrapping some blankets around her as if she is becoming a burrito, I take her into my arms. Slowly looking up to me, the moon is reflected in her eyes. I can see longing in her eyes, feeling her arousal and need grow as she stares at me.
