CHAPTER 3

The next morning I woke up with a slight hangover. I get up and head straight to the kitchen to find some aspirin on my cupboard. I drink 2 tablets, sitting on my counter cradling my head with both hands. Feeling the medicine effect on me I get up to make tea and some toast at the same time checking the frig for supplies, I really need to go shopping seeing the contents. After my breakfast I showered, put my hair in a messy bun and apply some pink lipstick because I look pail. Dress in a white fitted shirt and black yoga pants I grab my purse and keys then call a cab to get to my car. I drive to the supermarket, good thing its weekend so there is less traffic. I park my car, lock it and head to the store. I get a trolley and strode to the hygiene section. Putting some tampons, panty liners and feminine wash on my basket while walking I bump into another trolley. "Oh, sorry I"m not looking where I"m going." I apologize, and then look to the person I bump into. My breath got caught in my throat when I saw that familiar ocean blue eyes last night. "It"s ok, no harm done." He said while giving me that sly smile. I"ve been mesmerized with his eyes, why didn"t I notice last night that he"s so attractive. He"s very good looking with light brown hair, chiselled jaw, pointed nose that give aristocratic vibe and those eyes. Broad shoulders and toned arms that I can"t help but spot because his wearing a black fitted shirt and stone wash jeans. "Miss are you ok?" He asked. Caught checking him out I blush but recovered fast. "Yeah I"m fine, I"m sorry again." I utter feeling self-conscious. "I"m Jake by the way." Introducing himself while offering his hand for me to shake. "I"m Abbie." Reaching for his hand to shake. "A pleasure to meet you Abbie." He said. Giving my hand a firm shake. I feel that familiar shiver again. A minute pass and he is still holding my hand. I cleared my throat and he finally let go. "I"ll go ahead, I"ll see you around Abbie." he smiled and wave goodbye. "It"s nice to meet you Jake, bye." Then I proceed shopping. I paid all my purchases and head back to my apartment. Walking in the hall way I notice that the opposite door on my floor was open, it"s been a while since someone occupy that unit. As I take my keys on my purse someone exited the other door. I glance at my back to see Jake. He saw me and I see a surprise look on his face. "Hello, we meet again." He approaches me. "Wow! I didn"t expect we"ll be neighbours." I cheerfully replied. "How about I invite you to have pizza and you tour me around, I"m new here." He asked shyly. "Oh! That would be great, just let me put these bags inside and we can go." "Let me help you with those." He picks up three grocery bags while I open my door. "Thanks, you can put those on the table." Pointing to were my kitchen is. "Your place looks cozy and lively." He complemented while looking around. We use my car and our first destination is the Empire State Building observatory. We ride the elevator to the 86th floor, here you can see 360° degrees view of Manhattan. It"s a bit crowded, there are many tourists enjoying the view and taking photos because it"s summer time and the weather of fine. "Wow! The view in this place is awesome." He cries out. "Oh come on! You have with you the best tour guide in Manhattan what do you expect." I teased him. He gaze at me with fascination. "Really? How could I be so lucky to have a very pretty guide." He countered with a playful smirk. I could feel my cheeks reddened in the complement his giving me. Then he led me near the glass windows to have a better view of the streets below. He takes out his phone to capture some photos while I enjoy the view. "Can we take a photo together if you don"t mind?" He asked suddenly, scratching the back of his head flashing me a cute shy smile. "Oh! Okay." I didn"t expect him asked such request. We stand side by side our faces almost touching. We smile looking at the camera, on the background you can see the top of the Rockefeller Center. Our next stop is a pizzeria in 6th avenue. We order garlic shrimp pesto pizza and soda. Taking his first bite I watch his eyes widen then close to savour the flavour. "Now I believe you are the best tour guide in Manhattan, I"ve never tasted pizza this good!" He exclaimed taking another bite. I watch him devoured his food while I eat silently feeling delighted that his enjoying. "So where are you from and what brings you here?" I asked. "I"m from Virginia, I work in a private investigation and security service and because of that my job requires me to move places if necessary." He explains. "Oh! So it"s like the FBI or something?" I asked eager to know more. "Well sort of." Is his short replay while stuffing his mouth again with food. After our lunch I drive to Central Park. We walk through Hallett Nature Sanctuary to Gapstow Bridge then take a seat in one of the bench pacing the pond. "It"s beautiful here, I"m grateful you agreed to be my tour guide." He blurted while giving me that smirk. "I"m glad you liked it, this is my favourite place in Central Park. I always come here whenever I want to unwind or I feel stress, it"s relaxing here." I glance at him to see that his smiling at me. Sitting close to him I can feel his body heat radiating from me. We sit in comfortable silence while watching the ducks swim in the pond. I don"t feel awkward around him, it feels like we"ve known each other in a long time. "Would you want to grab some ice cream before we head home?" He asked. "I love ice cream!" I said beaming at him like a 5 year old. "Is that so? Alright let"s go!" He chuckle and stand offering his hand for me to hold. I take his hand smiling and follow his lead. I could get use to him holding my hand like this, the warmth giving me a feeling of security. We eat our ice cream while walking back to my car then drive home. "I really enjoy my tour, thank you." He thank me wholeheartedly when we reach my door step. "I had a good time too." Feeling elated since my break up. "I hope we hangout again soon." He said gazing in my emerald green eyes with a grin on his face. "Definitely ."
