Yesterday was the most memorable day of my life, I finally met my father, all the questions that are bugging me all my life have been answered.
Now he is meeting my mother, I want to surprise her. I leave work early today to prepare dinner for us in my house. I also texted Jake to join us but he said he"s busy about work.
Mom arrived at exactly seven in the evening.
"I"ve miss you mom, come in." I said when I opened the door and lead her inside.
"I missed you too honey. I wonder who is this guy that you want me to meet. Is it Jake? Are you together now?" She said placing her bag on the coffee table.
"No mom, the guy is for you. I"m setting you up on a blind date." I beamed at her.
"Oh no! I don"t have time for relationships dear. Are you out of your mind?" She said panic and disbelieve in her eyes.
"And I"m not allowing any guy to be near you!" Dad said opening my bedroom door.
"Who is tha..." Mom stood frozen in her spot staring at my father. Her hands instantly went to her mouth.
"It"s been a long time Aubrey." Dad greeted her smiling.
"Robert is that really you." Mom asked disbelief in her voice.
"Yes, it is me my love." He replied striding towards her spot and engulfs her in a tight hug.
"Love?" She utters wondering if she heard him right.
"Yes you are, my love." He said without releasing her.
"But I thought you and Samantha..." she places her hands in his chest and pushes a little to have a better look at him.
"No we are not together, nothing happened that night when you found us. I was so drunk to do anything to her. She told me that you saw us but I"m so angry at you that I let you think that something happened to us. I"m so sorry Aubrey. I should have listened to you. I should have let you explain. Forgive me." He said with tears in his eyes.
"Oh Robert! I"m sorry that I leave you." She hugs him crying.
"It is all forgotten my love. We can start all over again, it"s never too late." He said catching her tears with the pad of his thumb.
"Don"t cry Aubrey, you know I don"t want to see you cry." And kiss her tear stained cheeks.
"Hey, your daughter"s here." Mom said slapping his shoulder.
"Oh don"t mind me, I"ll just go get something to drink." I mutter walking to the kitchen winking at them.
"I missed you so much." Dad said kissing her again on the cheek.
"I missed you too Robert." Mom said hugging him tight and giving his lips a chase kiss.
The dinner went well, Dad and Mom catch up. I feel elated that my parents are finally together.
My father suddenly stands and walks to where my mother is seated and bends in one knee.
"Robert what are you doing?" Mom asked startled.
"Aubrey I will not let you slip away in my arms again, not a chance! I"ve loved you then, I love you now and I will love you forever. Will you for the second time agree to marry me?" Dad said while offering a ring to my mother.
"I love you too Robert, Yes!" She answered with tears in her eyes. He slips the ring on her finger and kisses it smiling, staring lovingly at her.
"Is this my old engagement ring?" She asked staring at the ring.
"Yes love, I keep it for so many years hoping for this moment to arrive." Dad hugs her and smiles at me.
We were having some drinks in my sofa when Dad speaks.
"I want the two of you to move in with me in Greensboro, I want to make up for the time that we are away from each other." He announces.
"But Dad my life is here. You cannot expect me to leave my work and friends just because you ask me to." I protest.
"Abbie I"m not saying that we leave immediately, you and your mom can visit my place first then if you liked it you can move in. I have my own construction firm which you will inherit when I retire so it is logical that you move in North Carolina." Dad said.
"Honey your Dad is right. Give it a shot first. We will visit your Dad"s place I want to get married in my home town." Mom mutters reaching for my hands
"Alright I will give it a try." I said defeated.
"It is settled then, Aubrey we will marry as soon as possible maybe two weeks will be enough to prepare a simple wedding. I"m not going to wait forever." Dad was so exited.
"Yes love, whenever you like I"m with you." Mom said staring at him lovingly.
"And honey you will be my maid of honor." She said to me beaming with excitement.
"Sure Mom." I agreed.
Now my family is finally complete what could have gone wrong.
