It was indeed a bad idea for me to be distracted by the thoughts of him.
I inclined my seat as I stare at the window of our car. My mother just picked me up from my university due to the fact that she was worried sick because she can not contact me. What she doesn’t know is that my phone was broken and I didn’t even bother to tell my family about him. Why? Because I was just too distracted. I was so distracted by the thought of him. The though of him that he may be another Terrence in the making.
“Alexandra?” My mother asked me. I looked at her eyes reflecting from the mirror of the driver’s seat, as I was seated at the back of the car.
“Why didn’t you tell me that your phone was broken? I should have bought you a new one.” My mom said.
Perks of being rich huh? I shrugged and said, “I was really about to buy a new one but you suddenly showed up at the university so I guess you will be the one to buy me a new phone.” I smiled at her, silently hoping to the heavens that she will really buy me a new one.
“Of course, I will.” She answered and I automatically screamed internally.
“Thank you, mom.” I said, being thankful.
After a few days, I can now have a new phone.
To be honest, I don’t even know why would I even pass the days of being phoneless. But to be honest, I don’t really depend my life on gadgets. I prefer books and talks to be honest. It rawer and you can really see the emotion of the person you are talking to.
“Alexandra?” I was distracted again from my thought when my mother called my attention again.
“Yes?” I answered, trying to fix my heavy eye glasses from my nose bridge from falling.
“Do you, have anything to share to me?” She asked.
“What do you mean mom?” I suddenly felt thirsty so I grabbed my water bottle from my backpack and drank from it.
“Like you know, how are you doing now in your class? Do you have any difficulties or perhaps, are you currently crushing on someone right now?” What she said made me throw up the water from my mouth.
“Mom!” I said to her and that made her laugh, “Don’t say nonsense things like that when I am drinking. I made a mess inside the car!”
“So, which is which, Alexandra? So you are currently crushing on someone in your class?”
“Mom, my classmates are assholes, what can you even expect from them? They just always bully me because of my look and my fashion style.”
“Actually Alexandra, you can improve yourself. You are pretty but you can be prettier if you will learn how to take care of yourself more. I noticed that you kept on fixing your eye glasses, how about we buy contact lenses so you won’t get bothered by it anymore?”
“Mom, I can handle myself and I know that someone can love me for who I am.” I bravely smiled at her and she smiled back.
“I know, silly me. Why would I even degrade the self-esteem of my own daughter?”
“Mom, you didn’t. You are just stating facts but like what I have said, that someday, someone will love me fully for who I am, even though I wear the ugliest and dirtiest clothes in the world.”
She just giggled at me, “You silly girl. A Kim never wears trash and I, your own mother will never allow you to wear the ugliest and dirtiest clothes in the world, like what you have said.”
“I know, mom. I was just exaggerating.” I giggled back.
I noticed that we’re not on our way home and oh, we’re going to the mall to but the phone that I wanted, I think?
“So, mom. Are we really going to buy my new phone right now?”
“Yes honey. We are.” She smiled.
**
We arrived at the mall and we decided to have our dinner first before we go home. I really missed his bonding time with her. It has been a while since my mom and I had the usual girl time with each other. Usually, my mom is not home because of her work or sometimes, she goes home but she just sleeps and whenever she wakes up, she just prepares for work and leave. I am usually left alone in the house and that made me kind of sad. But right now, I am thankful and happy.
“Where do you want to eat?” My mother asked and I pointed at this fancy restaurant that I haven’t tried yet. I can’t even read the name of the restaurant because my eye glasses are falling off again.
“Your eye glasses are really bothering me, Alexandra. We shall get that fixed.” She said and I nodded.
My mom and I went to the restaurant that I saw. I was walking with her and even though that I am in my university, I still hold my mother’s hand whenever we walk.
But I felt the stares of other people at us. As expected, I know that they are judging me. Maybe because, my mother is so beautiful and she is going to eat with an ugly duckling. I swear I even heard some of them saying that I look like a turd.
“Alexandra, don’t mind them.” My mother whispered to me.
“I’m not mom, don’t you worry.” I smiled at her. It was guarantee that I am not really bothered by the fact that these people are talking about my mother and I but I just decided to brush it off.
My mom and I are able to find a good seat and we both sat down and the waiters automatically gave us the menu.
“What do you wanna eat?” My mom asked.
My eyes scanned the menu and I saw how ridiculously expensive the menu is. I know that my mom can really afford it but the prices of this restaurant is just too much!
“Mom, these are really expensive and—”
“My daughter wants the steak, medium rare with fries. Mine will be the turkey with mashed potato.” My mother was now talking to the waiter without even giving attention to what I have said. So I just shrugged it off.
“What were you saying?” She asked.
“I was saying that I’ll just go to the toilet, mom.” I excused myself and she didn’t bother. She was busy on her tablet. I guess she was checking the charts of her patients.
I entered the toilet and saw someone that I wish I didn’t see. I just wished that I could have used the toilet some time later but here I am now.
“Well, hello there, Alexandra.” The b***h, I mean Lisa said. Her eyes scanning me from head to toe then vice versa. “I didn’t really expect your ugly face to show up here.”
“And I didn’t even also expect that there will be a literal walking s**t walking inside the toilet.” I fired back.
She just laughed at me, “And now you are really fighting back? Well, that is good for you. I can really hurt you right now but I wont waste my energy on you right now because of my fresh manicures and I won’t waste my penny just to get dirt for your hair.”
As if b***h, I can literally but the whole salon if I wanted to.
I just stared at her as she fixes her hair, “You know what, I don’t even know why you have the face of a cursed one when you mother is literally a walking goddess. I won’t be surprised if someday, they will just tell you that you are adopted because clearly, the looks from your ugly face was not from them.”
I didn’t say any word as I rushed out of the toilet.
Why was she even bothered by my face? Did I do something to her?
I know that I shouldn’t be bothered and hurt but I am just a mere human. I have feelings and I get hurt.
“Hey honey, are you okay?” My mother noticed the look on my face and I also studied her looks.
My mother is really pretty and I know that I got my eyes on her. I think I am getting tired of this f*****g bullying thing, so I said to my mother the words that I will soon regret. I think.
“Mom, can you make me prettier? I want to be pretty as you because I am sick and tired of the society.”
My mom’s eyes widen but after a few seconds, her expression brightened, “Of course. I was just really waiting for your go signal, honey.”
I swear that someday, these people will swoon over this ugly b***h. i will build my self confidence from now on.
