HER PAST

UNRAVELING THE MYSTERIEIS OF THE PAST.

Norisa sat in her bedroom, surrounded by the letters, photographs, and locket that she had discovered in the safe box. Her mind was racing with questions and emotions, as she tried to process the secrets that her mother had kept hidden for so long.

As she read through the letters again, Norisa felt a deep connection to her mother, whom she had always known as a strong and stoic woman. But these letters revealed a vulnerable and passionate side of her mother that she had never seen before.

Norisa's curiosity was piqued, and she knew that she had to embark on a journey to uncover the truth about her mother's past. She wanted to know what had happened to Ekong, the young man whom her mother had loved so deeply.

As she walked downstairs to the living room, Norisa found her aunt sitting on the couch, watching TV.

"Auntie, I need to ask you more questions," Norisa said, sitting down beside her.

Mrs. Ukpong turned off the TV and gave Norisa her full attention. "What do you want to know, dear?" she asked.

Norisa took a deep breath. "I want to know more about Ekong. What happened to him after he left the village?"

Mrs. Ukpong's eyes clouded over, and she sighed. "Ekong went to the city, Norisa. He tried to make a new life for himself, but it was tough. He struggled to find work, and he was lonely."

Norisa's heart went out to Ekong, imagining how difficult it must have been for him to start over in a new place.

"What happened to him after that?" Norisa asked, her curiosity piqued.

Mrs. Ukpong hesitated, as if unsure of how much to reveal. "Ekong got married, Norisa. He met a woman in the city, and they had children together."

Norisa felt a pang of sadness, realizing that her mother's love had not been reciprocated. But she was also happy for Ekong, that he had found happiness and built a new life for himself.

As she continued to talk to her aunt, Norisa realized that there was still so much she didn't know about her mother's past. She knew that she had to keep searching for answers, no matter how difficult it might be.
