Impossible

I fell right onto the grass face down. "What the-?" I said, but was cut off by something else falling onto me, pushing me further into the ground. "Ouch!" I heard a familiar voice say. It can't be. I looked up to where the voice had come from in front of me. There he was, sitting on the grass, rubbing his head. "Aria, are you okay?" He asked. My facial expression was frozen in shock. This is impossible! "What are you doing here, Liam?! How can you be here?!" I stood up fast and started walking back and forth. "This is really bad, you can't be here. It's supposed to be impossible! You're human!" I didn't understand. How could this be? "I don't know Aria! I know nothing about this fairy stuff! You should be explaining to me rather than asking me questions. You're the half-fairy here." He was right, but I had no idea how to explain this. I looked at him. I saw that the side of his forehead was bruised. I quickly forgot everything and was suddenly standing right before him subtly moving his hair backwards to examine the bruise. He stopped moving, looked into my eyes and smiled sweetly. "I'm going to be okay," he said, smiling warmly at me "It's just a bruise," he finished. I let go of his hair and let it fall back the way it was. I saw his eyes resting on me and I could feel the heat traveling up to my cheeks, so I quickly looked away. I heard him chuckle. Then he put his hand gently on my shoulder and turned me to him. He looked at me up and down as if he was looking for something. I didn't know what, so I became nervous. "Why are you looking at me like that?" I asked, not able to hold in all the heat that was probably already showing on my cheeks. "Why do you look the same as before?" He asked. "Aren't you supposed to have purple eyes and wings?" My eyes widened. What? "What do you mean I don't-" I trailed off while trying to look for my wings that clearly weren't there. "Aria?" I heard Eric's voice in the distance. I lost all train of thought. "Eric? Is that you?!" I asked, feeling excited as he started walking towards me with Molly, Ruby, Aiden, and Axel after him. They were all here. "It's so good to see you!" Eric said, running in for a hug. I put my arms out ready and when he saw that he smiled from ear to ear and, instead of running, he took out his wings and flew into me. I would've fallen backwards if it hadn't been for his wings balancing us out. He held me so tightly that I never ever wanted to let go. "I haven't stopped thinking of you since you left." He whispered, which sent a pleasurable shiver down my spine. I didn't feel the same strong bond as before, but I guess that was because I wasn't in my fairy form. Nevertheless, I still felt nervous knowing that my destined mate was right here with me. He quickly let go of me and then just froze. "Why are you-?" Eric looked past me and at Liam "…and who is he?" He asked, confused. Liam got closer to us. "Who are you?" Liam asked back. There was this weird energy around him. Was he angry or something? "This is Liam, my best friend." I said to Eric, still happy to see him. "This is Eric." I told Liam. They just nodded and Eric turned his attention back to me. "Uh, I don't understand," he said and stepped a bit away to examine me further. "Where are your wings and why are your eyes..?" He trailed off and looked at me weirdly. Axel and everyone else were also looking at Liam and I Oh no... "Why do you look human?" Axel asked with a complexed expression. I didn't know how else to say this, and I hoped that they would accept me. I hoped that I could trust them. The only thing I could do to explain this was to tell them the truth, so I spit it out. "I'm half-human…" I said slowly, really unsure if it was the right thing to do. But I trusted Eric, or at least I hoped I could. There was silence. "But isn't that against the rules?" Molly finally asked in confusion, looking back and forth at the others. "It is." Eric said, and kept on staring at me. Oh please, I hope that it's okay. "And your friend is human too, right?" He continued and looked at him. I couldn't read his expression. I nodded. Scared. What if he would turn me in now? What if he would reject me as his mate? Then I felt Liam's hand on my shoulder. "Aria is half fairy. Her family in the human world was taken, so we had to make a portal here ourselves to get to Aria's biological mother for help. Something clearly went wrong since Aria is still human and isn't changing, and I got through the gate, which should be impossible for humans. We need help. Can you help us?" Liam said, standing firmly beside me. Confidence radiated from Liam. I could feel Eric's eyes watching us. Then I looked at Liam and I saw him watching Eric as if he was observing him too. The energy between them became heavy, and they did not seem to like each other at all. Uh, this is bad… "We would be breaking the law right if we did that?" I heard Ruby ask the others as she examined us. "How exciting." she finished the sentence with a smirk. "That's not exciting, Ruby," Axel said, and seemed to look at us with disgust. I was starting to feel nauseous. "We could get into serious trouble, and I'm not even kidding when I say it could be serious. Humans are not allowed here." His voice was very serious and felt powerful too, it made my heart beat faster, and not in a good way. "Don't worry too much, Axel. You're too serious. They only need to go see her biological mother. We're outside, so as long as we cover them no one will notice they're humans. Just keep looking down so they don't notice your colorless eyes." Aiden said, the last bit pointed to us. Axel did not seem happy, at least he wasn't stopping him. Hopefully, he won't stab us in the back. "Last time you were here you told us you were visiting Clarissa, your aunt. Where and who is your biological mother?" Axel said, it felt like a stab in the chest. I looked at Liam and his eyes were wide looking back at me, he clearly didn't know that I had lied to them about Clarissa. I didn't know what to say, it didn't feel as if Axel was trustworthy! I tried opening my mouth to say something, anything... "Clarissa is her mom. She lied to us the first time." Axel turned to the others and came to the conclusion himself. I looked down at the ground. I felt so embarrassed, heat traveled to my cheeks. I could hear the shock in the group. "Well, it only makes sense, she didn't know us when she told us. Telling random strangers that Clarissa is her mom would've brought her some real problems right away." Ruby said, as if she was really contemplating my situation. I was grateful that she was saying something, distracting me from my own embarrassment. "What problems?" I heard Molly's voice ask. She didn't sound as bubbly as usual. I guess I was becoming a burden to them. "The day Aria came here I got curious about Clarissa and her past. I simply asked my parents about her at dinner and I got some juicy information about that," Ruby said. Waiting for the others to ask her to continue. "Yes and?" Axel said sternly. "Clarissa had a human mate. I think he had been taken away from her or something. My parents didn't really want to tell me more about her. I'm sorry Aria, but no one seems to like your mom." She looked at me with soft eyes. "And for the record, I do not see you as anything different from a friend. I would like to help you. I see it as an exciting mission." "So that's why your half fairy half human. That's actually quite interesting. You ever met your dad?" Molly asked me. I slowly shook my head, still trying to settle my emotional roller-coaster. She looked at me with soft eyes. "I think it's only right to help her." she continued and smiled at both me and Liam. "But it's against the rules to have humans here!" Axel said, looking at the girls with shock on his face. "It's also against the rules to skip practice. Now let's talk about this later and let's help them. Please, Axel, at least just this once." "Come with us, we'll help you to Clarissa's house without anyone noticing." Eric said and seemed to only be talking to me. He reached out his hand to me and I took it. I could feel Liam's eyes on our now intertwined hands as he followed us. Eric put his left wing behind my back so no one would notice my wingless back and Axel groaned, but then he helped Liam out. I looked back at Liam, and it seemed like Molly was taking an interest in him. "Ow look at him, such a cute human! Can he also be my best friend, Aria? Is that fine with you?" she said excitedly. I chuckled. "Yes of course!" I said. I felt Eric smile beside me while he held me close. Felt so warm. I didn't want to think about any problems right now while in his presence. But I had to focus. We walked all the way to mom's house and Aiden, who had been silent this whole time, knocked on the door. "Helloo your daughter is here, Clarissa." Molly said to the door. We waited. Then I felt someone take my other hand. I looked down and Liam was now standing with me. I was now holding both Liam's and Eric's hands. Did I ever tell Liam about that mate thing? "This is my first time seeing your real mother." he said, and I smiled encouragingly at him, but no one was answering. She never leaves her house. Or so I heard. Molly turned to us and crossed her arms. “I thought Clarissa never left her house.” “Well she’s probably just out getting food or something” Aiden leaned on the door beside her when the door suddenly flew open by his weight, he fell right down on his butt. Molly burst out laughing and was quick to try and lend him a hand, but he stayed down on the floor, obviously trying to play it cool, so Molly decided to pull her hand away from him when he finally reached out. “Sorry, too slow.” She said with a smirk and walked past him. “Molly?” Aiden said jokingly-offended and she turned to him and laughed. Her laugh was very contagious, and it got the rest of us to smile with her. Aiden was still on the floor when Liam decided to reach out and help him. We were all now inside and it was dark. Except for the daylight that shone through the windows. Suddenly, the house lit up as Ruby turned on the lights. “Mom?” I called out. No answer. I looked at the others, and they all seemed worried. We decided to split up and walk around the house to be sure she wasn’t at home. Eric and I checked the living room. Molly held onto Liam’s arm and dragged him upstairs while the others went their own ways. All I could see was that the house was a total mess.
