Aria’s POV
“I need to see mom again.” I said as I let go out of Liam’s hug.
“We’ll see Amare again. We just have to figure out how.” He said trying to sound convincing. He was trying to calm me down. I wasn’t having any anger outbursts or anything like that, I usually don’t. But I was angry deep inside, but I never acted out on it and he knew that. I was also sad so I let my tears flow.
“I meant Clarissa. My biological mom, the fairy.” I explained as I walked into the living room. I remembered where Ekon kept that big fairy guidebook. Just hoped it was still there.
“What are you going to do?” I heard the worry in his voice as he followed me.
“You’re going to help me make that portal.” I said confidently. I looked at the bookshelves. I could clearly see that Amare and Ekon had fought back when they were taken, if not then they trashed the place for some unknown reason. And they never trash anything on purpose. Everything was upside down. So many books were on the floor.
“What? No. You -” He stopped when I gave him a look.
Was he going to try and stop me from going to save them?
“Look, I mean I don’t like the idea of you going there alone again, especially now when they’re actually searching for you.” He explained while brushing his hair back with his fingers.
I turned back to look for the book. “I have to go there. I would take you with me but you can’t go through the portal. Only I can. I’m just going to look for my mom and talk to her, see if she knows what I can do, any loopholes, or anything. You know, so I don’t have to die. Now help me find the book.” I was on the floor pushing the other books aside.
He groaned in frustration and started looking. “I’ve been worrying about you so much since you first started transforming. It’s like ever since that happened you’re in constant danger. I really hate the fact that now they want to kill you for just breathing.”
I found the book under the sofa that stood by the wall. I reached for it. It was pretty far under. I stretched my arm as far as I could until suddenly I got it. I looked up and saw that Liam had lifted the sofa up a bit for me. I grabbed his leg to help me stand up. Our eyes met as I straighten my back.
“Well, not like I can do anything about the fact that they don’t want me to exist. But right now I need to think about saving my family. You don’t have to help me but it’d be really nice if you did.” I sounded so brave. I wanted to be brave for Amare and Ekon, but I was terrified of getting caught, and potentially getting killed.
Then he put his hands on my shoulders and sighed.
“Hey, I’m not leaving you.” He did a little side smile and pulled me closer to him. My heart started racing a bit in the moment. His eyes held mine and I felt as if I shouldn’t blink. Then his face reached down and he planted a small kiss on my forehead. “Plus, how will you make that portal alone? You haven’t gained such power yet.” He suddenly said. I could hear he was teasing me by my lack of power still.
“Soon I will.” I was blushing. “Let’s just figure this out now.” I said referring to the book.
We sat down on the sofa and opened the book in my lab. It was kind of messy and unorganized. No specific chapters in it but it had a lot of random tricks I wanted to learn. How to make plants and fruits grow faster. How to breathe underwater. All sorts of magical things I wanted to learn. But then we found the page on how to summon the portal to earth and back. I guess mom wrote that book in the fairy realm. Why didn’t I look at the book earlier, maybe I would’ve learned something fun like how to understand animals and talk to them. Well, can’t blame myself…I wanted to go see mom.
“Here it is.” Liam pointed at the title of the page. We started going over it. “We need more people. We have to be 4 around you. We’re supposed to hold onto crystals in each hand while you stand in the middle. Just like how it was last time.”
I looked at him.
“Well, Kylie can help us…but no one else knows about me. Are you sure three of us aren’t enough?” I asked with a bit of concern. I did think of Dylan and Hailey but I wasn’t sure if they could handle the truth.
“We don’t have enough hands for the crystals. There are 8 crystals in total that need to be held up.” He looked at the top of one shelf. There were these big crystals standing in all their glory, shimmering from the daylight that came in out from the window. Each of different color. “We can’t hold them all. We need more hands and we need to be able to make a circle around you with them, two people aren’t enough to make a circle around you.” He continued.
It was true. Those crystals were big. I guess there was no choice than getting help from the others.
“It'd look more like a square." I said. He smirked at me.
"We need four other people to circle around you so that the four corners can be made. You know, as it says here." He pointed at the page. "Earth, air, fire, and water. Four corners. I didn't notice it before but the crystals represent each element. I held the blue crystals last time."
"I get it. So I guess we have to ask Dylan and Hailey for help, right?” I said and he could hear my concern.
His eyes softened.
“Yeah,” He said and put his hand on my arm. “I know they don’t believe any of this stuff, but we do have proof. Let’s just do this gently. We don’t want to break them.”
I let out a sigh and nodded in agreement.
Here it goes…
I grabbed my phone while Liam went to the kitchen. I dialed Hailey’s number and waited a bit anxious in the living room, walking back and forth slowly, trying to figure out how to show them my fairy side without breaking their minds.
“Heyyy girl!” I heard her say upbeat. “What have you been up to?”
I held my breath.
“Uh so yeah uh…well…” I started but then I smelled food. I walked towards the kitchen. I saw Liam inside. He was making food. Beautiful sandwiches with grilled cheese.
Omg…he is literally heaven on earth…
He saw me and smiled.
“Hello? Are you there?” I heard Hailey’s voice say. I snapped out of my head.
“Yes! Uh sorry.” I chuckled. “Can you and Dylan maybe come over to my house? Liam is here and I’m about to call Kylie too.”
“Yeah Dylan is actually with me right now, we’re out shopping. Is there anything you want me to get you before we come?”
“Uh, maybe not today thanks.” I said with kindness. She was always so thoughtful.
“Okay, we’ll be on our way then.”
“Okay, see you.” I said and hung up.
I then dialed Kylie’s number and she was quick to answer.
“How’s my fairy!?” She said excitedly. I chuckled.
“I’m fine.” I said out of habit. “No I mean I’m not fine. Can you come over? We need your help to make that portal again.”
“You’re going back so soon!? Omg okay, I’m on my way now! Don’t leave without me!” I heard her say in haste.
“I won’t.” I said and hung up.
Now that’s done. What’s on Liam’s mind…
“Why are you making food?” I asked Liam as he put the sandwiches on two plates. He put them on the table in front of each other and told me to sit in front of him. I walked in and sat down.
“Since you’re going back, I wouldn’t want you to get hungry.”
“You know, I could just eat at my mom’s if I were to get hungry.” I said and gave him a teasing smile as I took a big bite of the sandwich.
He smiled and rolled his eyes at me. “I know, but I wanted to make you something before you go.” He leaned back on his chair with his arms crossed.
Liam was good at making food. I guess he got it from his mom. I always loved it when he made something for me and he knew that.
“I love it. How did you find all these ingredients?” I asked while looking into the sandwich. The kitchen was kind of destroyed too and it was obvious that they hadn't gone grocery shopping today.
“You know me, I just use what I got.” He leaned on the table, hadn’t touched his sandwich yet.
He let me finish mine while I told him that everyone was on their way, then I watched him watch me. I raised an eyebrow as I took the last bite. It was like he was thinking about something.
“Are you not going to eat yours?” I asked and pointed at his sandwich. But then he slowly stood up and walked around the table to get to me. He reached down his hand as he stood over me. I hesitated but then I took it confused.
“What’s going on?” I asked, my voice hesitant. He pulled me up from my seat and then took my other hand in his other hand. I could feel his gentle hold on me, which made me blush a bit.
Calm down Aria, it's just Liam...just Liam.
He looked into my eyes. His eyes held me captive.
“You know that I really care about you, right?” His voice was low and quiet. As if we weren’t close enough he pulled me in closer. I was about 2 inches away from him. I could feel his body even without touching him. I felt him breathe, his warmth, his love…
I nodded at his question. Afraid my voice would fail me if I tried saying something. I tried looking away. This was getting too much for me to handle. My heart was out of control.
“You also care about me am I right?” He asked and made sure to hold eye contact.
Is he kidding me?
“Why would you even ask that of course, I do.” I suddenly and unexpectedly said without thinking. “You know I do.” I finished almost whispering.
I saw his shoulders relax and he smiled, happy with my answer. I managed to look away for a bit. I looked to the side and took a breath. Then I felt his finger under my chin, pulling my face slowly to face him. I saw him look at my lips, then back into my eyes. My breath quickened. I felt like I was melting.
“Can I…?” He asked me gently. I couldn’t answer, my brain couldn’t function right.
He ever so slowly pulled my face towards his as he leaned down. My heart was about to jump out of my chest.
Then right before our lips touched, he stopped. Still holding my face.
“I need you to take the last step…if you want to.” He whispered. I felt his mouth moving so close to mine I couldn’t take the distance. I needed to close it.
I slowly moved in then finally felt his lips on mine. I felt him smile as soon as our lips touched. His hands started slowly moving up my arms when suddenly:
“Hello! We’re here!” Someone said while knocking.
We let go. Both startled.
NOOOO…
