"Finally you two are back. Didn't think of calling me once?" Jaden arched his eyebrow as me and Matthia tried to look everywhere else but him.
You don't want to make Jaden angry. Angry Jaden is equivalent to "you-don't-wanna-mess-with-me" Jaden.
"Well? I'm waiting and I can't hear any words coming from either of you," Jaden tapped his foot impatiently as he leaned against the kitchen counter.
"Umm... we kind of just left without you Smith," Matthia bluntly said out aloud.
"Kind of left without me? You two ditched the guy who initiated going shopping, and you two know how much I love shopping. It's an utter tragedy you two left me in the dust!" Jaden dramatically hollered.
I cut off Matthia before he could say anything.
"I had a nightmare...again," I whisper.
I saw Jaden's expression immediately soften. The playfulness in his eyes vanished replaced by sadness. And I liked that about Jaden. He never looked at me with pity, he was genuinely sad and always cared about how I felt. He tried to empathise and comfort.
"It hasn't happened in a while Avi, awh hon come here, come to mama bear," Jaden cooed as he opened his arms wide. I quickly ran into his embrace.
"I'm a good cuddle bear aren't I?"
"Yes, yes you are," I chuckled at Jaden trying to act all cute.
"I'll let you two off this time but you two owe me because of the waffles stack you posted on your i********: story, I have been depressed about having just eggs this morning!" Jaden blabbered.
"And Avi you still have the milkshake you owe me, don't worry I'm keeping it a secret if not Matthia might want it too" Jaden not so secretly whispered in my ear.
"Heard that Smith but I'm the one with the platinum card," Matthia smirked before crashing on the living room couch.
"Hon, remember me and Matthia are here for you alright? I'm only one call awaayyy—"
I stuffed Jaden's mouth with a fake orange which was on the kitchen counter.
"Next time try not to sing, it killed the mood."
"But, it did make you laugh."
"Yes, it did, big boy."
"Jaden, Aviana, I put in the Fifa 20 game, you two get your asses here!" Matthia yelled from the living room.
"Let's go before the moody guy over there throws a pillow at our faces," Jaden whispered and ran to where Matthia was.
These boys are a bunch of toddlers, but I wouldn't have it any other way because they were like the void that filled my non-existent family.
They were my family.
...
The rambunctious blaring of the small alarm clock jarred me out of my peaceful sleep and I felt around for that god-forsaken alarm clock, smashing the snooze button as hard as I possibly could.
"This is the sixth time that f*****g thing has rung, let's get up!" Matthia said annoyed with two pillows covering each ear.
"Jaden take your leg off me," I push Jaden's limbs that were sprawled on me.
"Ten more minutes mom," Jaden groggily murmured before passing out again.
"Matt let's get ready first, Jaden doesn't seem to be waking up anytime soon."
I get in and out of the shower quickly then Matt went in.
What am I supposed to wear? I mean I'm going to a camp.
"Matt! What are supposed to wear?!" I yell from outside the bathroom door.
"The school jersey and gym leggings or track pants!"
"Thanks, Matt!"
I throw on our school jersey and a pair of black leggings and braided my hair into two french plaits.
The last time I'll get to properly do my hair presumably.
"Jaden! Jaden wake up!" I nudged the boy who was sleeping soundly.
"Jaden Smith get your ass up right now!" I kicked the boy in the stomach.
Oh, he fell off the bed and onto the floor when I pushed his legs, thus, me kicking him is possible.
Plus, I haven't had a valid excuse in a long time to do that.
"Alright, alright I'm up! Didn't have to kick me in the guts you know?" Jaden whined.
"Matthia just finished bathing, now it's your turn pretty boy," I pushed him into the shower.
"Be down in ten if not we are ditching you!" I shout before going downstairs to fix myself a bowl of cereal.
...
"I don't understand you, Mattia Lee, you pour milk in first before cereal?"
"Yes, it's astonishing you don't," Matthia furrowed his eyebrows as if this didn't make sense to him.
"You pouring milk first then cereal is like going into the shower then taking your clothes off!" I argue.
Matthia shrugged indifferently, "What is ten plus nine? Nineteen. What is nine plus ten? Also nineteen. Either way, you are getting a bowl of cereal so shut up and eat."
Matthia can be a little bitchy in the morning. Nothing new.
"You got a point, Matt." I didn't bother arguing with the student who has the highest grades in our cohort.
Who's the student? Who else, it's Matthia. Astonishing. He's a straight A-Student.
After Jaden finished getting ready and everyone ate breakfast, we took our duffel bags and put them in the car.
"Jaden you don't need that," I say.
"Awh," He pouted disappointedly and kept his headphones away as if he had just been scolded by his mother.
He's a big baby I tell you.
"Hurry up you two!" Matthia yelled from the driver's side.
I quickly hid the keys underneath the potted plant third from the right.
What? It's a classic way of life.
"I call Shotgun!" I cheer.
"Awh damn," Jaden mumbled incoherently under his breath something about his chakras being misaligned this morning.
Five days with strangers, must be exciting.
