Chapter Three Tom showed up at ten the next morning, in a pickup truck loaded with lumber and a tool box. When she offered of a cup of coffee and a bagel, he accepted both with enthusiasm. She tried not to be too obvious about it, but she couldn’t help studying him over their late breakfast. Hard to believe she hadn’t even known him this time yesterday. Within an hour of meeting him she’d known the attraction was powerful on her side, and it thrilled her to discover that he felt it as well. Dinner had cemented the compatibility between them, but last night had shaken her world. His smile helped calm her nerves, but it couldn’t remove them entirely. Before he got to work outside on the steps, he brought in two duffel bags that he stowed in the front guest room. “No peeking,” he warned.
