Basil Kane.
When the door flew open I expected to see either Wright coming to air more complaints or Leilani who wanted to yell at me for one thing or the other. What I didn’t expect was to see Blossom standing there her eyes cold like she was out for blood. “Planning to throw me under the bus too?” She asked looking directly at me. I looked at her calmly, or trying to act calm hiding the excitement of seeing her. Great way to start the morning I thought.
“I’m sorry sir, I tried to stop her.” Sarah came behind shortly after Blossom.
“No problem Sarah.” I said and she gave a subtle nod then she left closing the door.
“What are you talking about?” Neil asked as Blossom’s glare turned to him.
She scoffed, “really? You are going to act like you guys don’t know what you did?” She asked angrily. “You called me here to help you find her so your boss here could put a target on her back?”
“Miss Summers you really need to explain what you mean because I have no idea what you are talking about.” I said as I looked at her.
She sighed, “yesterday night Adelyn called me afraid and freaked out that someone was following her. I went to pick her up and found her curled up behind a dumpster quivering and sobbing. If you didn’t want to represent her you didn’t have to tell Mr. Bennet about her!” She yelled.
I couldn’t help admire how protective she was of this girl he only met yesterday, but also couldn’t help wonder how naïve she was to take this girl at her word. I stood up, “Miss Summers, you only met the girl yesterday, you don’t know what her past was like because you know nothing about her.” I said calmly.
“The guy who gets me the information I need is very thorough if there was something in her past to find he would have found it.” She said sternly as though she knew what I meant by saying that.
“I know I didn’t tell Alexander anything.” I said as I sat back down.
“If she didn’t want to be afraid of her life then maybe she shouldn’t have gone around making false r**e allegations about rich and powerful people.” One of the lawyers from yesterday said. We all turned to look at Felicity, her head was bowed and when she noticed we were looking at her she just shrugged.
“I can’t believe you as a lady said that.” Blossom said.
“You don’t know me so you shouldn’t judge me. I have been working as an attorney for so long and I was just as naïve as you are. Thinking I could make the world a better place by putting bad guy in prison.” Felicity said casually, “guess what sweetie, they are all people like you and me and they also lie just like you and me.”
Blossom was about to answer when her phone chimed and she looked at it, she sighed. “I hope you are telling the truth because I will be digging into her life, I hope it doesn’t lead me back here.” She said as she turned to leave and Neil followed her. He left the door ajar and from where I was seated I could see them talk, I knew how to read lips so I did.
“I just want you to know I had nothing to do with what happened to Adelyn.” Neil said to her.
“I really can’t talk about this right now.” Blossom said as she looked at her phone again, I guess whatever it was must be really important.
“How about we do our dinner tonight?” Neil asked but he seemed so unsure of himself which was so unlike him. But I could understand why he would feel so around Blossom, she was so fierce and confident made you second guess everything about yourself. Neil walked back into the office getting me out of the thoughts I was getting lost into. I felt disappointed that I didn’t get to know what Blossom answered to Neil’s proposal, I know Neil was my friend and I had a girlfriend but a part of me wanted Blossom to reject Neil. I know I was being a bad friend but the heart wants what it wants and my heart is obsessed with Blossom Summers for some reason.
I sighed, but I won’t be having her any time soon so I might as well focus on what I know I can have, a successful company.
Blossom Summers.
Robin was the one who texted me telling me that I couldn’t get the police file on my sister’s case, immediately I left the law firm I called Robin, “what do you mean I couldn’t get the case files?” I asked confused, “I thought you said you are going to get them for me?” I asked confused.
“It’s not that I don’t want to get them for you, it’s just that there was a little problem.” Robin said.
“What problem would arise from a case file?” I asked confused.
“That there is no case file for your sister’s case. There is nothing at all, no case file, no police report, no evidence, it’s like that case wasn’t even investigated.” Robin said.
I sighed, “Thank you for trying Robin.” I said.
“No problem sweetie. I should probably get back to work.” He said then hanged up.
I should have known, if this was a cover up then definitely there won’t be any evidence left of the case at all. But I have the court files, why weren’t those destroyed? I wondered but having gone through those files numerous numbers of times there was nothing there, so there was no need to destroy them. I guess my only hope is Bailey Portman, Ryan’s second chair, hopefully he’ll have more information that could help me because if I’m being honest I had hit a wall and I was grasping on straws.
I met Bailey out for coffee, I guess he thought I was asking him out on a coffee date but I needed information and if this is how I got them then I didn’t mind.
Bailey chuckled, “to be honest with you I was not expecting you to actually want to come.” He said nervously.
“Why wouldn’t I?” I asked with a smile.
“It’s just that you are…” He started to say but then stopped, “I’m glad you’re here.” He said.
“If I’m being honest I did this for selfish reasons too.” I said, “I’m actually trying to see if I could get a case that I really wanted but I’m new here and I don’t know DA Ryan very well and I heard you worked with her and I was hoping you’d help me.” I lied with a bit of flattering of the eyes.
He smiled, “What do you want to know?” He asked.
“Tell me how it was working with her?” I asked, “is she as fierce as she looks?”
It’s safe to say that the coffee date didn’t yield much fruit because every time I would try to gently nudge him to talk about my sister’s case he would change the story completely. I guess I’d have to go through drastic measures I thought as I walked out of the coffee shop. I had asked Barry to get me really small transmitters that I could plant in the DA’s office so I could here what she heard because I knew I would get so much information that way. I could remember a few details of her office and I could think of different places to hide that transmitter but close to the phone would be much better. What I hadn’t thought of was a way to get into her office when the secretary wasn’t looking, but I guess I could figure a way out.
She usually left to warm her lunch at around 1pm and it would take her approximately, 7 minutes to get back to her desk and that was more than enough time for me to plant the transmitter and leave the office before she came back. I was in position at exactly 1pm ready for her to leave and as Ryan wasn’t in the city, she came back today so it was safe to go. I had 3 transmitters which I put one close to the phone, one next to the sofa by the window and another on the door on my way out.
“What are you doing?” The secretary asked startling me.
I chuckled nervously, “I’m sorry, I was hoping to do this without you finding me.” I said, “there was a file I was to submit yesterday but I hadn’t got to it till today so, I thought I’d sneak it in before the DA gets back. I didn’t want to get in trouble, I’m still a bit new here.” I lied and I was good at it, fortunately or unfortunately.
She eyed me suspiciously, “did you manage to put it?” She asked.
“Yes, I did.” I said then I shrunk to make myself seem smaller to make it seem as though I was nervous, “will you tell the boss?” I asked.
“No, I won’t. I understand that the DA’s office gets a lot of workload. You owe me lunch though.” She said with a smile.
I smiled back, “thank you so much.” I said then I hugged her than walked off. That was close but now all I have to do was to wait, of course I didn’t expect to hear something interesting immediately but now the ball was set.
