Lilly laid unconscious in a meadow of grass surrounded by a couple of trees, the sun was warm while the wind gently moved across the fields, gradually bending the blades of grass. There were birds singing songs and chirping when Lily slowly began to open her eyes. “What the?” Lily sat straight up and scanned her surroundings. The last thing she remembered she was standing together with her coven sisters. “This makes absolutely no sense. Where is everyone?” Lily was completely alone, isolated in a strange, and yet beautiful place. There was not a soul in sight, no roads, no cars or houses, just the songs of birds and the sun beaming brightly down on her. Blue skies and white puffy clouds casted above past the horizon. “Am I dead? Is this heaven?” Because she was a witch she couldn’t help but doubt that outcome. But the sun wasn’t setting and there was so little to look at. I started looking around just feeling lost and confused. I wasn’t even wearing the same clothes from the seyonce, just a plain white shirt, blue jeans, and no shoes or socks.I stumbled around for what felt like hours, looking for anything or anyone that could tell me where I am. I felt the coolness and softness of the grass and I walked aimlessly. “Wait, what is that?” I wondered. I saw something hitting the light from the sun that was blinding. I walked closer to it, it looked like a perfume bottle or a decanter. It was shaped like a waste with intricate top with a clear pentagram on that side. The base was somewhat like an open flower positioned upward, almost like a lily? I knelt down and reached my hand out to it, and I tried lifting the circular top to try and open it. It lifted with ease but seemed to be empty. Not knowing what to really expect I was somehow disappointed. I place to top back on the bottle.
“Well hello.”
Started by the sound of a persons voice I jumped back and let out a shrill.
“Haha, it’s okay. It’s just me, I’m Sydney.” I turned around and stood up, sure enough a boy stood in front of me. His arms were loosely crossed, he was cute with curly brown hair that balanced just above his shoulders. He was smiling ear to ear with a smile that could light up a room. He had strange pointy ears and was almost looked like little baby goat horns on either side of his head. He piercing dark eyes looked into mine.
“Um..Hi, my name is Lily. Any chance you could tell me what exactly is this place? And, what are you exactly? You’re not like any guy I’ve seen before.” Sydney laughed at this, his face slightly turned never breaking his gaze. “You’re in the dream realm, a spirit world” he said calmly.” And I am Sydney, a Jinn, and now that you’ve opened my bottle. I’m your Jinn.”
This was beginning to be more than I can handle, first I end up in a strange place unexpectedly and now I’m meeting a strange boy who just called himself my genie. “So you’re a genie? Does that mean you’ll grant me 3 wishes? And the spirit world, how did I end up here?” He gave me another big smile. “Well, I mean everybody comes here, just generally when they’re asleep. Although your dream seems pretty basic so far.” He didn’t just look totally unique his clothes were odd too. He had a little vest covering a longsleeve shirt with a crossing drawstring over his chest. His pants were fitted except the bottoms bowed out, sort of reminding me of a genie. What I kept staring at were his large metal wrist bands, possible made of steel? Were these his bindings? And what of these 3 wishes I asked about? Why didn’t he answer my question?
Lily looked around again now that she’s found another…individual to speak to. All she saw was the mundane picture of peace. There was a gentle wind, blue skies and the green grass beneath her. But what about the moon? The shadow? The nights stars flashing from the heavens?
“You can shape this place to however suits you, miss Lily.” My face must have made it obvious I was glaring at the scenery.
“I would like it to be nighttime, I’ve been walking around under the sun for hours now.”
“Let that be your will then.”
Sydney took my hands and stood behind me, then raised my arms like I was holding the sun in the palm of my hands. “Do you wish for the moon?” He whispered in my ear. Lily nodded, now blushing. Slowly as he moved my hands to the left, still holding the sun, the moon followed behind from the right. Sydney flicked his fingers and splashes of stars appeared. “This world is yours for the wielding.” Sydney said to me. And with that my imagination began to envision the possibilities. But I stopped myself and asked Sydney. “But what about my life? How did I even end up here I was right in the middle of a ritual with my friends?”
“Well, there is not much you can do from here miss Lily. What sort of ritual were you performing? If you don’t mind me asking.”
“Please, call me Lily. I was seeking a way to keep this cruel guy away from me. He was abusive and dangerous and the last thing I remember is being in the woods with my best friends, trying to make this guy go away.”
Sydney paused a moment, as if mustering the right words to say. “Lily, the universe has its way of taking care of fools like him.” I was taken aback but somehow comforted. That’s when he put my hand in his and looked into my eyes. “You’re safe now. He won't hurt you anymore.” Despite the uncertainty I did suddenly feel like I was safe.
They sat together in the grass, staring at all the stars Sydney had placed with a flick of his fingers and they were glowing brightly. It felt nice to be with someone finally, and his company was so calming and reassuring she couldn’t help but smile.
