‘Well, at first, I thought it was just a big storage facility, so I was happy to sign the Official Secrets Act,’ he said. ‘But then I found myself locked into this bizarre situation, almost overnight, and it was terrifying.’
‘But that was 5 years ago!’ Ophelia protested. ‘Surely, you haven’t been working here all that time?’
‘Yep,’ Martin sighed.
Ophelia kneeled on the floor and placed her hands on Martin’s.
‘Your disappearance broke my heart,’ she hissed.
‘I’m sorry, Ophelia,’ he said. ‘But, as I recall, you had already started flirting with Peter.’
Ophelia felt her heart sink.
‘I know,’ she said. ‘I’m so sorry. I was stupidly impulsive and got swept off my feet the first time he took me up in his aircraft. It was a shallow reaction and, believe me, I’ve paid the price for it.’
