Chapter 17: Reality Of A Werewolf

“She has not fooled anybody, Leo! You are jealous of her so you want her dead! You want her out of Jackson's life so you have him all to yourself, which is why you want her dead!” Dominic shouted furiously.

“Now that is not true!” Leo hesitated. “OK, maybe it is a little bit but that's not the point, how can we trust her when she is around us? She could bite us anytime then we'd be a monster, doesn't that even bother you?”

“No, it doesn't bother me at all because-” a voice carried on behind him. “Because it isn't true, you cannot turn into to a vampire by being bitten, you should know that, brother. You have to be fed vampire blood then die then feed on a bit of human blood then you are a vampire. Trust me, I should know.” Dominic and Leo swirled around quickly to catch Sapphire finishing her sentence. “Nice to know you are well, Dominic, and Leo, I asked you to look after him, not yell at my guest; how rude of you. Anyways, Jackson has a visitor and we have work to do if we need to survive. Don't we, Jackson?” With a nod of confirmation from Jackson, Sapphire carried on. “So, Leo, every supernatural creature is here because of us. Me, you and Jackson, we have been killing them for years so they want to settle the scores.”

“That is preposterous, there are lots of hunters out there, yeah, sure there should be a hell of a lot more, but why would they get revenge on just us?” Leo replied, bewildered.

“Are you that stupid? Jackson understood what I meant straight away. Our hunting started with our grandad then dad then us, which means that we have probably killed the most of them,” Sapphire explained in the short version.

“Holy s**t,” Leo said, getting pretty scared. Wait

scared? Me? I am not scared? They are what I kill all of the time, just like I will kill her.

“Exactly; but we are not going to let them get the better of us are we? We are going to do what we do best.” Sapphire states looking at each and every one of them.

“You mean what everyone except you does best?” Leo says between his teeth, hatred in his tone. I will not let her think she is like us, she is a monster.

“You have not seen me hunt, therefore you do not know whether I am good at it or not, I mean I maybe I hell of a lot better than you.” Sapphire smiles a little before walking upstairs to her bedroom.

Leo barges passed everyone, pulling a knife out in the last second and tries to stab her, she spins around at Demire wolf speed and grabs his wrist. “Do not even think about trying to kill me in my own house. You will never be faster than me.” Sapphire spoke in a terrifyingly intimidating voice. Her eyes were ruby, emerald and black again, she stares at him letting go of his wrist.

He takes a few steps back, “See, she is a monster! Look at those eyes. She is going to kill me.”

Sapphire laughs at the sound of his fear, “If I wanted to kill you Leo, I would have already, but I haven’t my eyes are like this because you made me use the whole of my speed. I could have broken your wrist if I didn’t have such control. You are lucky I learnt how to control myself.” She states before making her way back up the stairs to her bedroom. She calls from the top of the stairs, “Hey Dominic, you want to give me a hand? I am going to give you a quick lesson on hunting.” She lets her eyes slide to her murderous brother, “Preferably not hunting me.”

Dominic chuckles a little, he was mesmerised by how her eyes looked right now; all of the colours looked beautiful. “Me hunt you? Never going to happen. I love to learn new things though.” He runs up the stairs taking two steps at a time. He turns into her bedroom to see the secret room already open but Sapphire wasn’t in the room she was sat on her bed. He walks inside before shutting the door behind me.

Sapphire turns to look at him, her eyes full of sorrow. “First of all I wanted to say how sorry I am that you got taken and hurt because of me.”

Dominic looks at her sighing softly before walking to sit next to me. “It isn’t your fault, I understand that you wanted to find your brother. He means a lot to you. It is completely understandable. You trusted that I would be ok, I let you down I am sorry.” He looks down ashamed that he couldn’t look after himself.

“You mean a lot to me too though. You have never fought or hunted a demon before I shouldn’t have let you go on my own, please never think that you have let me down. I will train you the best I can. Well not train, you know how to fight and defend yourself. What I meant was teach you the ins and outs of the main supernatural creatures that you will hunt.” Sapphire rests her hand on his, “not that I would leave you again until you are ready to.” She gulps hard suddenly feeling nervous, she just realised that at the beginning of her little speech she admitted that he was important to her.

“You mean a lot to me Sapphire, I knew you wouldn’t leave me behind when I was taken. You are the best partner I have been partnered with and it was all by mistake. You are so much better at this than my current work partner. He is like useless, with you I can be better. you make me better, you make me see the world in a whole new light. You have shown and told me things that I never thought would be possible.” He reached his hand up to gently touch her face, everything within him tingled at the contact. It made him feel alive. Just be near her made him feel alive, as if anything was possible.

Sapphire tilted her head into his hand, as she closed her eyes taking a deep breath as she asks a question that she was terrified to ask, “What I am…it doesn’t bother you at all?” she stared at him to see his full reaction, he looked hurt by her question.

“Why would it bother me? It makes you special, unique. You are one of a kind. You have managed to tame everything within you, which makes you so strong. Not everyone would be able to be so headstrong and determined to do what you managed to do. I can’t even imagine what you have been through to be where you are now, but I am glad you are…here now. That we met.” Dominic’s heart was racing so fast, he had never felt like this before. He never imagined that he would fall for someone so special.

Sapphire blushes a little, looking down a little self-conscious, no human knew who she was and two out of three people that mattered to her didn’t care what she was. They still loved her and cared about her. He had to know that she would never hurt anyone.

“I would never hurt you or Jackson or even Leo for that matter. I would never hurt anyone that is good, which is what I have trained myself for. It is why I hunt, the werewolf inside me is angry a lot. A werewolf changed when they are angry, it depends on the werewolf on how bad their temper is. Luckily it takes a lot for my wolf to show itself unless I willingly want to change. For example just then when Leo tried to kill me, it took everything within me to not turn into a werewolf. It hurt me to not turn into a werewolf. You see…” she pauses for a moment, these are secrets that normal hunters would never know, and these are werewolf secrets that she was about to tell him.

She look at him and see that he waiting patiently for her to carry on, he moves his hand from her face to gently take her hand. “It is ok Sapphire. You can tell me anything, I will not tell a soul. I promise.”

Sapphire smiles and nods, “There are two sides of every single werewolf. A one that is forced to change, the other that changed willingly. A werewolf that is forced to change…” she looks down not wanting to see his reaction, she didn’t want to know if he wondered if she ever killed anyone “…is very difficult to control, it sort of has a mind of its own, it is extremely angry and the only way for it to calm down is to hunt; to kill. A wolf that has willingly changed is in complete control of the wolf. It is like that person has asked for the wolves help, as back up. The wolf is a part of them. When that wolf in enraged for whatever reason, it gets seriously pissed off or what we call it is we go into ‘blind rage’ and doesn’t let the human emotion get in the way of what it wants.” She finally risks looking up at him, what she sees is total respect and pride even. “Do you understand what I am saying?”

Dominic nods smiling with pride, “It means you are a total bad ass for taming your werewolf.” She must have been so strong or focused to be able to do what she done, I am so proud.

“I am trying to teach you here, Dominic. This is important, because in a way Leo is right. If I suddenly go into blind rage then you are all in danger. I mean I have only ever been into blind rage once and that was on my very first full moon. Every single new werewolf goes into blind rage on full moon, but then again I have never had a brother trying to kill me until now.” Sapphire explains gently squeezing his hand.

“What is it like? Going into blind rage?” He asks curiously looking at her, his whole attention was on her, he couldn’t help it she was so mesmerising and perfect. So strong and powerful but she never abuses those powers.

“We call it blind rage because we don’t see or know anything that is going on until we wake up. We don’t know who we have killed if anyone. We don’t know where we are when we wake up. We don’t know what we did. It is why it is important to let the wolf to run free every month at the least.” She informs him, she could see his mind process it all so she stayed quiet.

“C-can I see? Your wolf I mean?” he stutters a little nervous, not knowing if it was a question that should be asked.

Sapphire smiles and nods, “Of course, though we just look like normal wolves, the only thing that is different is our eyes. They are emerald green and they glow, but I guess you kind of saw that already.” She chuckles softly.

Sapphire stands up letting go of his hand, “Are you sure you want to see this? It can be scary for people to watch, Why don’t you wait outside or downstairs? I don’t want to freak you out.”

Dominic looks at her stubbornly, No way am I going to miss this. “No, I want to see this, I will be fine.”

“You want to see it?” Sapphire questions tilting her head to one side. Not many people want to see a werewolf at all never mind witness them change.

“I mean, it will be good to see it now rather than going on a hunt and witnessing it then and I don’t know what to do because I am stunned.” Dominic corrected himself staying sat where he is, staring at her to show that he is ready.

She nods taking a deep breath, “I have never done this with an audience before.” she mutters to show how much she trusts him.

She backs away more from him for his own safety, closing her eyes, letting the wolf take over her mind, letting her wolf senses take over. She felt her bones already cracking her skeleton changing into a wolf’s skeleton. Her teeth structure changing, sharp wolf fangs forcing its way through her gums, her fingers turning to claws, white fur covering over her whole body. Her eyes turning emerald glowing. This whole process only took a minute to change.

Sapphire looks at Dominic who is staring at her stunned, she stays in the corner not knowing if he was afraid of her or if he was just stunned by the process he just witnessed.

Dominic was stunned, the whole process looked so painful, her bones breaking and snapping into a whole new skeleton, new teeth coming threw in under a minute, it must be agonising for her. I asked her to do this. I put her through this pain. Dominic looks into her eyes and sees that she is worried that she has scared him.

Dominic walks up to her slowly not wanting to frighten the wolf or make her go into blind rage. He stopped half way not knowing how this works. Sapphire looks at him she walks towards him slowly too meeting him half way; looking up at him curiously.

He kneels down so he is at her height, she stares into her emerald eyes. He was lost in them they were so mesmerising. He lifts his hand up slowly, cautious not to ever make any sudden movements, he gently touches the top her head, starting to stroke her head. She was so soft, her short fur was silk to the touch. He couldn’t help but keep stroking her, it was so calming and therapeutic.

This was the first time Sapphire ever allowed anyone to touch her, normally she wouldn’t let any human near her never mind touch or stroke her. it was a strange feeling of being ‘petted’. It felt so foreign but so right at the same time. She sat down just letting him pet her.

There was a knock on the door that startled them both, they both turn to look at the door. “Hey I was just wondering if two were…” the voice started then the door opened, he stood stunned. “S-Sapphire?” Jackson stutters stunned at he was seeing, he wasn’t expecting to see her in her wolf form, but she was beautiful as a wolf, her pure white fur and emerald eyes it was captivating.

“Yeah, it is Sapphire. It is alright, she let the change happen so she won’t go into bling rage.” Dominic answers for her, as she couldn’t communicate to human without terrifying them because all werewolf sounded like to humans were snarls.

“So she really is teaching you, even showing you what to look out for, I thought she just wanted to talk to you about before.” Jackson assumed, folding his arms looking from Dominic to Sapphire back to Dominic.

Sapphire chuckled but it sounded like a soft snarl, normally her teeth with show but she had everything under control. Jackson looked at her and raised his eyebrows as if asking what that was. She whimpers in apology.

“Don’t worry about it Sapphire, just never heard a wolf chuckle before that is all, it sounded strange to my ears.” Jackson comforts her, before walking towards her comfortably as if he done this every single day of his life.

“Jackson I heard a werewolf!” They all heard Leo shouting running up the stairs. “We need to go check it o-” He stops as he walks into Sapphire’s room, his reaction is immediate, he pulls his knife out that was made of silver and throws it at the wolf’s head. She jumps back but the knife lands in her leg.

Sapphire whimpered and whined, she looked over to the window she see that it was open. She looked back to Leo who was ready to get his gun out, she makes a sprint to the window, pain running through her leg every time she puts weight on it. She jumped onto the kitchen roof then down onto the ground a small howl escapes her throat. She rans faster than she ever had before to find some woods.

She ends up running towards a nature reserve, running through the paths and in between the trees. Luckily it was dark because of the time of year and no one really came here at night because there was no lightening anywhere. Sapphire looks at where the knife landed, anger found herself running through her.

No, no I am in control. I will not let him win, I am in control. We are in control you know that Sandalio. It has been a long time since Sapphire talked directly to her wolf. Sandalio is the name of her wolf, it means true wolf. The wolf choses its own name the human side has nothing to do with that choosing they just have to respect the name that is chosen. Only werewolves know each other’s true wolf name; it is forbidden to tell a human the wolf name because then that certain human can talk to the wolf directly, calm the wolf down even.

Sandalio snarls, Are you serious? He just tried to kill you. Let’s go back and seek our revenge!

Sapphire looks at the knife, pulling it out of her leg she howls in pain, before licking her wound. No Sandalio, he is my brother. You will not seek your revenge, you will stay in control.

You never let me have any fun! Sandalio whines sadly at how she wasn’t allowed her revenge.

I let you have plenty of fun; I let you kill vampires all of the time, not many werewolves can say they have killed over 10 vampires stop complaining. Sapphire whimpered a little more as she walked towards a tree and falls against it laying down on her side.

Fine. I will not get my revenge, but you owe me! Do you know how lonely it is for a wolf not to be in a pack or a mate? Why don’t we just go back to our pack? Or at least see the pack! Sandalio begs for some company.

Sapphire just sighed in defeat. Ok, I will go to visit the pack, I think I need their help anyways, but not yet, I need to know exactly what we are up against first.

Sandalio took control to jump up from lying down running around in circles yipping excitedly.

Sandalio, lie back down, the leg hurts remember and we are tired. Sapphire groaned groggily, yawning tiredly. The wolf obeyed, it walked to the tree and laid down, giving the control back to Sapphire. She just fell straight asleep.
