Chapter 12

Mercy slowly woke up to a warm body lying beneath her. She slowly moved her head up to be greeted with blue eyes staring at her.             “Good morning darling. Did you have a good night's sleep?” Luc smiled down at her. He had to admit last night was the best night sleep he had ever had.             Moaning a bit and stretching out her legs she moved them off of him to lie beside him. She looked back and smiled, “Yes I did. How about you?”             He rolled over on top of her and kissed her lightly on the lips, “Was the best night sleep I’ve had in my entire life.”             Mercy giggled, “Well I’m glad you had a great night's sleep.”             “Hey, you guys. Are you going to do this whole s*x thing, because if you are you need to close the door?” Teague sat at the doorway into her room.             Luc rolled off the bed and sat at the edge, “No we are not going to do the s*x thing again Teague not that it’s any of your business if we do.”             “Hey, I just don’t want to hear you guys doing it ok.” Teague turned and headed down the stairs, “What are we having for breakfast?”             Luc laughed and looked at Mercy who groaned at having to get out of bed, “We need to get him some dog food at the store and then he can eat whenever he wants.” She rolled out of bed putting on a pair of sweat pants and a long T-shirt. “But since I don’t have dog food means I have to fix him something I guess.”             Luc followed her down the hallway and stairs to the kitchen, “They have dog food?”             Mercy raised an eyebrow at the question, “Yeah what did you think mortal dogs ate?”             Luc sat down at the barstool, “I just thought the humans fed them like I feed Teague.”             She should have figured that was going to be his answer, he hasn’t been in the Mortal Realm in ages. So she shouldn’t expect him to know what mortal dogs eat. “No here we buy food at the pet stores and give that to the dogs, although since Teague has been getting human food here he may not like the dry kibble. Guess he’s just going to have to get used to it if he wants food all the time.” Mercy laughed.             “Well, I suppose since we are in the Human Realm he should eat like a mortal dog I suppose.” Luc nodded, he didn’t know that dogs had to have a specific diet.             “We can stop there later today after we hunt. We can bring Teague along with us and he can smell which one he likes since he’s not your typical dog.” Mercy winked at the dog to be greeted with a bark that sounded like a laugh.             “I guess I have to eat like a mortal dog if I want to be like one.” Teague sprawled across the kitchen floor, “But I’m hungry now so can I eat human food still?”             Mercy laughed and got out some eggs and bacon, “I’ll fix some bacon and eggs, it’s a pretty easy thing to fix. Luc, you should be able to fix this for yourself if you ever want it.”             “Well, then I will watch the pro.” Luc smiled as he watched her cook.   ***             “Alright team this is a very important mission for Lord Halcyon himself, we need to make sure we infect the Death Angel. That is our top priority. It is understood that Lieutenant Notté is now working with the Death Angel but is to be kept alive. Lord Halcyon has plans for him is that understood?” Bane questioned darkling’s that were chosen for this mission.             “Yes, sir!”             “Alright, I have made sure to have enough snake changelings to make sure this mission works. I will have two teams; one team will go on the south end of the hunting grounds and the second team will go on the north end. I will give you each a vile; with this vile, you must infect the Death Angel at any cost. This mission may cost you your life but this is a mission was directly from the Lord himself so this is a mission that we will gladly accomplish if it means our lives! Is this understood!?”             “Yes, sir!”             “Alright break into your teams and head to your stations, they will be hunting soon.” Bane watched as the changelings moved and headed in the directions they were assigned. He pulled out a mirror and chanted the words that Lord Halcyon told him to say to be contacted. Lord Halcyon’s face appeared in the mirror.             “Yes Bane why have you contacted me?”             “I only wish to let you know that the mission is underway and the teams have been sent out to the locations you assigned to infect the Death Angel.”             “Good. Good my loyal servant. I am very pleased with your work.” Halcyon smiled, his plan was in motion only a few more steps and his century-long plan will be completed. “Thank you for your dedication and I am looking forward to your next call to tell me Mercy has been infected.”             “I will notify you immediately sir!” Bane bowed his head as the connection ended. Only a few more hours and the mission will be complete.   ***             “Alright everyone ready for some hunting?” Mercy was so excited she was able to do her job, and now she had two people watching her back if there was a fight. Well, one person and a dog but who needed semantics.             “Teague and I are ready. Do we have a specific place we are looking at today?” Luc opened the front door letting Teague and Mercy walk through before he closed and locked it behind him. Today he hoped that with Teague here he knew Mercy would be twice as safe. Teague goofed off a lot and seemed like a very carefree dog, but when it was time to work he turned into a completely different dog. He saw that Teague was already on high alert making sure there were no threats in the area, and if there were he would let them know before the enemy even knew they were there. It was one of the great things about having a hell hound, they knew what souls were there and where they were before danger could happen.             “Well, I figured we could go look in the more hot areas around the city since you seem to have your mind with you today.” Mercy smiled and slightly nudged his shoulder.             “Yeah yeah. I’m here today. You sense anything, Teague?”             “No not at the moment.”             Luc could hear the ‘but’ behind his words, “Alright well let me know if anything changes.”             “Will do Lieutenant.”             “Why is Teague calling you Lieutenant?” Mercy laughed, it was weird to hear the dog sounding so professional.             Luc smiled, “Well my rank is a Lieutenant and Teague helps me with work, so you know when he is seriously trying to focus when he calls me Lieutenant instead of Luc.”             “Well, I guess he is in a serious mood right now. What did you mean by sense something?”             “Since Teague is a hell hound he can sense souls of any kind. He can tell me if they are darkling, whiteling or human; also he can tell me if the person means harm or if they are peaceful.”             “So he is checking if there are any hostile darklings in the area just by their soul?”             “Yep.” Luc laughed at how surprised she looked, although he couldn’t blame her only darklings knew that hell hounds could sense souls.             “Well he is very useful to have around, maybe I should have him come along on all my hunts. Would make my job a lot easier.”             “You should invite me along anyways; I can be more useful than this.” Teague continued to concentrate on the souls around him but barked out a laugh. This woman had no clue what she was in store for if there was a battle today, and based on his instincts they were going to have a big one today. He just hoped his help would be enough to escape the battle.             “What does he mean by that?”             “Trust me you will see,” Teague mumbled.             “You sensing something boy?” Luc could tell by the dog's tone that something was wrong.             “It’s odd. I can sense two groups of darklings, one is to the north of Mercy’s hunting grounds and the other is to the south. They aren’t attacking anyone; they are just sitting around doing nothing. It’s as if they are waiting for something.”             “Well that is odd, there hasn’t been a group of darklings that just sit around and do nothing.” Mercy was a bit confused at the idea of darkling just sitting around and not killing humans for their souls.             “Do you think they are waiting for you?” Luc was a bit worried now; he knew darkling didn’t just sit around and do nothing in the Human Realm unless ordered to. They were mindless beasts that just killed for pleasure. What was his father up to? Was this part of his plan?             Be careful these darklings are here for your woman. The demonic voice rang in his head.             What do you mean? Why are they here for Mercy? Wait can Mercy hear you?             I am not sure what the darkling’s plan is and no she cannot hear me. You speak to her through your bond with her, we have a different bond.             Then what help are you if you don’t know what their plan is?             I am a part of you. I only know so much. I am trying to warn you so you do not lose your woman.             Luc growled this was not helping his control at all.             “Luc, you okay?”             He looked beside him to find a very worried Mercy, “I’m fine, I was just thinking too much I suppose. I’m trying to figure out why there are darklings just standing around.”             “Well, I suppose the only way we will know is if you go find them and ask.” Mercy started running towards the North of her hunting spot, she wasn’t about to let stationary darklings scare her out of her job. She was going to find out what they were here for.             Luc saw her faze into her armor as she ran, she knew there was going to be a battle and he couldn’t leave her alone in this battle. He glanced down at Teague who had fazed into his armor that protected his vital organs. Teague looked up and grinned, “Guess we need to catch up.” He took off running to catch up with Mercy, “Hurry up Luc!” “Guess I have no chose.” Luc let his black armor and wings appear and flew in the same direction. If he had any hope of catching up he would have to fly.   *** “Alright, team one she is heading your way so be ready for her. Remember to infect her at all costs with that vile I gave you. She has Lieutenant Notté and his hell hound with her so make sure to fight them off as well to get this mission done correctly. Remember Lord Halcyon’s son is to not be harmed. Do you understand?” Bane wanted his teams to get this mission right; he did not want to face the punishment if he did not accomplish this mission. “Yes, sir! We understand our mission we will let you know when the mission is completed.” “Good. Bane out!” Now he just needed to wait for the call from team one that the mission was successful and he could call Lord Halcyon of the good news. Lord Halcyon had promised him a reward if he accomplished this, and truthfully as long as he didn’t fail that would be reward enough. He had seen the horrible things the blue flames beside the Lord did to people when they failed him.   ***               It was now the evening time in the Dark Realm but Halcyon was not about to sleep without knowing if his well thought out plan worked. He supposed he would just have to entertain himself while he waited. What did he want to do? He had already received pleasure and blood the day before, but there was nothing more fun that getting the hot pleasure of darkling females and then hearing them scream and squeal as he drained them of blood. The thought alone sent shivers of pleasure down his spine. His deadly canines peeked through as his grin grew, “Asher!” The double doors opened immediately.             “Yes my Lord?”             “Could you please find me some women please?”             “Yes, right away sir. How many would you like me to send into your bed chamber?”             Hum, he hadn’t thought about how many he wanted, he tapped his finger against his chin. Well, he was celebrating so that called for more than one. He wasn’t hungry for blood so ten would be too many. Five was an odd number and he hated odd numbers, he supposed six would do. Yes, the number hailed as an evil number by humans. “I would like six females, please. Also could you very them in looks? I would like a variety tonight.”             “Yes, sir.” Asher bowed and left closing the doors behind him.             Halcyon didn’t have to wait long before there was a soft knock on the door, “Come in.” He was pleased when he saw six young women in a file in front of him and struck a sexy pose. The great thing about having his people controlled by a demon was that they would do anything to please him. “Ah what beautiful morsels you are, I am so pleased you have come to please your Lord. Which of you would like to be first?” He saw the women look at each other and give him a sexy grin.             “We would like to please you all at the same time my Lord.” The women slowly and seductively crawled across the bed to reach him. They slowly undressed him and began to pleasure him slowly so that each woman could have their turn.             ***               “So this is where you said the darklings were right?” Mercy looked around her surroundings trying to find the enemy. They were in a wide-open grassy meadow surrounded by trees. This was just outside her hunting grounds in the city. The darklings were still hiding and it was odd for a darkling to hide when she showed up, any darkling would at least try to attack her. The thought that these darklings were hiding meant they had a plan, and a darkling with a plan was something to worry about.             “They are here I can sense them, I’m not sure why they haven’t come out to confront us.” Teague stayed near Mercy looking at each spot he could sense a darkling. These darklings were just sitting and staring at them. They looked like they were going to just pounce on them at the same time. “Luc stick next to Mercy. These darklings have a plan, I don’t like that they are surrounding us and not doing anything.”             “Got it. I do not like this any more than you are. I’m starting to think this was a setup.”             Mercy looked up to Luc, “A set up what do you mean?”             Luc grabbed Mercy’s hand as he continued to look at his surroundings, “My father is not one that doesn’t have a plan. He knows your hunting grounds and the way these darklings are surrounding us, it seems like we are the ones being hunted.” They were now touching each other slightly stuck in the middle of the meadow. “Teague take your shadow form now. I have a feeling you will need to be a lot faster than I originally thought.”             “Yes, Lieutenant!” Teague quickly changed letting the white glowing lights surrounding him, now standing in the husky’s place was a dog that was three times its size. He now had the dark matte fur that resembled coal, black metallic armor covering all his vital spots. His eyes were now their natural lime green. He looked up and found Mercy with a dropped jaw. He barked out a laugh, “What?”             “I am hella glad you are on my side.”             “What? I look dashing.”             “You look scary as f**k! I would high tail it and run if I didn’t know you.” Mercy hoped to God she wouldn’t run into a hell hound without Teague around.             “Hey, I told you I would be more useful than you thought.” Teague winked at her.             “Alright now that we have the shock of Teague changing out of the way can we focus on the damn darklings we have surrounding us?” Luc grunted. He shouldn’t get irritated it’s not like he warned Mercy about Teague’s other form.             “Well, it’s not like I grew up with a hell hound.” Mercy stuck out her tongue.             “I know I am sorry. I am just a bit on edge about darklings surrounding us.”             “Guys one of the darklings is coming out of the woods!”             “Well aren’t you just a good little dog warning your master.” The darkling laughed finally revealing himself. He whistled.             They looked around and found that the darklings were coming out into the open. Mercy’s hand started to shake in Luc’s hand. He looked down and saw her bug-eyed, “What’s wrong. Darklings don’t scare you.”             “Oh, it’s not that darklings scare her is it Death Angel? It’s the type of darkling we are that is upsetting you.”  The darkling laughed.             Luc looked closer and finally saw; they were snakes. The changeling she finally healed from. Luc and Teague both growled at the same time. There was no way they were going to get out of this without her getting some damage.             Mercy released Luc’s hand and let her other sword appear, there was no way in hell she was going to let some snake changeling intimidate her, “I will kill every single one of you. I’m not afraid of you at all. I’m just shaking in anticipation of being able to slice your pretty little heads off.” She was done waiting she let her wings extend and let them lead her to her first victim, the smartass that wouldn’t stop talking.              The changeling smiled, “Let the battle begin!”
