I woke up on the floor, my body was numb, I couldn't move. I tried hard till I stood up. I went to the bathroom to prepare for school when I noticed a mark on my wrist. It took the shape of a half moon and was giving off purple light. I rubbed it, but it wouldn't go off. I stared at my mirror in fear.
Jeffrey was having breakfast, thinking about the girl who saved him. Is she a vampire or a demon or maybe a fairy? What could she be.
"Son, how are you feeling this morning?" Kiera his mother asked cutting his thoughts. She kissed him on his head and took a seat.
"I'm fine mom."
"You feel no pain?"
"Mom, you've asked me that question a thousand and one times. I'm fine! Even the doctor confirmed yesterday that I was alright and I had no broken bones nor injuries."
"It's hard to believe. I mean, how will you fall from that height without sustaining any injuries."
"Someone was there last night mom."
"What do you mean?"
"I was too shocked to say it last night, but someone was there and she was the one who saved me."
"But the security men that saw you fall said no one was there and it was a miracle you didn't get hurt."
"Mom, I'm telling you now that someone, a being saved me. It or should I say she had powers. Because from the looks she should definitely be a female. I didn't get to see her face because she was backing me. But she was putting on a white hood on white pants. I'm sure Mom." He whispered.
"That's the same thing Stacy told me you saw at the concert that you believed saved you yet no one saw her. Are you sure you are not imagining things maybe you are watching too much paranormal movies recently."
"Mom, I'm telling you."
"Okay, yes I believe you, now finish your food."
Jeffrey shook his head, no one believed him.
Edville High.
I didn't eat breakfast at home but bought some snacks on my way to school. I was in a war with my parents.
I and Vanessa passed each other like we were strangers. I was happy in a way, my yesterday's plan worked. Today was the audition for the music competition. So there was no class, everyone journeyed to the hall while the presenters kept running to different directions to get their instruments ready. I walked into the hall and took a seat. Deep down, I hoped Vanessa would do well despite our feud. I hoped I wouldn't be the reason for her not to present well.
The rocking wave sat down in their studio.
"Why did you hit me through the face?" Jeffrey asked apathetic as he played with the ring on his index finger.
"You hurt someone important to me."
"When did that weirdo mean so much to you?" Zoey asked.
"Zoey, Sapphire isn't a weirdo she is my friend."
"Since when?" Tatiana asked.
"I don't know, it just happened."
"Really Evan, Sapphire isn't your class, our class." Aiden added.
Evan gave Aiden a squinted look. He himself didn't know why he defended Sapphire so much, he couldn't help it.
"So that's why you hit me before everyone. You know that's what everyone has been talking about since yesterday till today on the students page."
"I'm sorry I didn't know people were watching."
"Sorry?!" Jeffrey yelled with fury as he stood up and walked towards Evan throwing everything, chairs, out of his path. The others stood up alerted waiting for the worst to happen.
"That wouldn't heal the cut on my face, that wouldn't make people stop talking and that wouldn't satisfy me!" He threw Evan a punch and he staggered away.
"Guys!!" Aiden yelled and came in between them to stop the fight.
Evan stood and cleaned the blood on his lips with the back of his palms. He couldn't retaliate, he actually acted out of impulse yesterday. Ordinarily he wouldn't do that to his best friend.
"Hit me all you want, its fine."
"No I won't hit you, you are my buddy. Rather that girl Sapphire will take the hit for you."
"Leave her out of this Jeff."
"Why?! Why should I!" Jeffrey yelled moving towards Evan but Aiden kept pushing him back.
"Guys! Come on, not now please?! We have an audition today! so let's focus than do this!" He shouted bringing silence. "You know how this competition is important to me, to us! If you don't want to, I will wanna kick Kreisten high's butt once again. And this is not how we are gonna do this, it's not gonna work this way dudes! Please, let's keep our differences aside and focus. We've never had a quarrel in our entire life as friends, so let's not now, please?!"
"Please Jeffrey, listen to Aiden, he is right. I wanna kick Kreisten high's butt too." Stacy added.
"I'm sorry dude." Evan apologized.
They all waited for Jeffrey to speak even when they knew he never apologises to anyone. It happened just the way they had thought, he just nodded and went to carry his guitar.
"Are we doing this or not?" He asked.
"Yes we are." Tatiana said in a deep voice.
"Now that's the spirit baby." Stacy added.
Evan smiled as he went to get his guitar. He knew when Jeffrey said Sapphire was going to get the hit for him he wasn't joking. Yes, Jeffrey was a handsome rich demon who would have his way to everything. But this time, for the first time, Evan was ready to stand up to protect Sapphire, he never wanted to feel like a fool twice.
Vanessa was up. She looked at me as she sang. I removed my gaze from her when it became intense. She sang wake me up by Chris Brown. Everyone in the hall sang along with her, she was pretty amazing as she sang with a high pitch. When she was done, everyone stood up in an applause including the judges. Without anyone telling me, I knew my friend was on her way up to present in the competition. I saw disgust all over Stacy's face. My gaze fell on Evan and our eyes met before I looked away quickly. After Vanessa, the rocking wave took the podium. Everyone including the judges were already on their feet clapping even when they hadn't done anything. This teen stars were loved by everyone but me. I stood up and left the hall.

In Haven, the most beautiful and magical place in the firmament, where only supernatural people resided. The sheenites. They all glared on their white apparel. The sheenites were only females and there were no males. A Sheenite appeared in a room. She bowed to her knees to a woman who had her back facing her.
"Yes, Ravenna, how is the Sheenite on earth doing?" The woman standing asked.
"Fine my goddess. She has finally met with her curse. We made her his guardian."
"Good job Ravenna. So when do you think we should send the messenger?" The goddess asked turning around. She was a very beautiful creature. Her eyes glowed silver and her entire body glared.
"I think there will be no better time than now goddess." Ravenna answered.
"Good. Now go and release the messenger and send him to earth."
"Your wish is my command my goddess." Ravenna said and stood up walking away with her back. As soon as she got to the door, she disappeared into mist.
The goddess turned back around and began chanting some words to herself.
"For she has met her curse and her curse shall bring her doom. For mortal shall bring her destruction for mortal is love and love is death. No one can be greater than the master, so I say it be and so it shall be. Oh! go bring me the soul of he who stands as a threat to the goddess and never come back till then." Her voice echoed and Immediately, she opened her palms and a great power left it and circulated the whole Haven with great force. A cage opened and a dark demon came out. His body was black and burnt. His eyes were red like a burning flame and he had a long thorny tail. He growled and turned into black smoke and immediately Ravenna opened a passage and he journeyed out of Haven to earth.
The audition was over but the results weren't out. I went to my locker to get my books for the next class when I noticed that everyone were in chaos. Running helterskelter. I stopped a student.
"Please what's happening?"
"I'm not sure, but I think I heard something happened to Vanessa." He answered and left.
"Vanessa." I muttered. I immediately i ran, but tried hard not to run fast.
Getting to the class, I saw Vanessa lieing on the floor gasping for air. Stacy crossed her like she was nothing together with her friends. I rushed to her and lifted her head shaking her whole body. Vanessa was asthmatic, but no one knew about it asides her family and me. They kept it hidden so it wouldn't hinder her the throne. But now everyone knew.
"Call the school clinic!" A student shouted.
"Your nebulizer. Where is it? Where did you keep it?!"
I thought I was going to die. I was trying hard to breathe but couldn't. Everyone kept watching me, I felt like they were watching me to die. Stacy and her friends crossed me like I was some dead body. If I was myself, God knows I would have pulled their legs so she could fall on her face. Immediately Sapphire came in and held me. I suddenly felt a surge of energy. It flowed through my arteries, my veins, I could feel it. It was more like she was supplying me oxygen, the oxygen I needed. I could hear her ask me about my nebulizer. She wanted to leave I didn't want her to. She was giving me enough energy already. She left me I suffocated again.
I came out of my class. The next thing, I saw myself by her locker. I searched my keys, I remembered I had a spare in it. I opened her locker and searched everywhere I saw the nebulizer. I took it and shut the door. Immediately I saw myself In the class. I pressed the air into her mouth and I felt her breathe.
"Good, that's better." I said rubbing her back.
My class mate Gori looked at me with shock.
"How did you get here so fast?" She asked.
"That's exactly what I was about to ask her." Luke added. "Did you teleport here or something?"
I ran fast. Or maybe I didn't. I didn't remember running down the stairs and running up either. Which meant I teleported! That's impossible. What am I becoming. I swallowed hard in fear I hoped no one saw me teleporting.
"I ran fast. Very fast." I answered.
"Then you should sign up to join the Olympics competition." Another added.
My friend just survived from a terrible attack and here they were talking about a competition. I realized rich people had no heart. Vanessa sat up.
"Are you okay?" Luke asked.
Vanessa's eyes glistened. Everyone had known the truth, the part of her she hated the most. I knew she was ashamed of herself.
"All of you leave!" I ordered.
"I said leave!" Immediately they started leaving one by one until they were all gone.
Vanessa broke into tears. I didn't have the words to console her so I just tapped her.
"They all know now."
"Vanessa, it's okay. They may know but it's not the end of life. This was bound to happen. If people don't find out now, they'll still find out later."
"Still I won't be able to live with myself." She said with her head down.
"I'm sorry." I consoled.
She looked at me and smiled.
"I thought you said you weren't my friend, then why did you help me? Everything was just an act right?" Vanessa asked knowing I never lie.
I nodded.
She grimaced.
"You're glowing." She said.
I looked at my wrist to confirm. I knew I covered it with my wrist band, but it was covered.
"I mean your whole body." She said again diverting my attention from my wrist.
I looked at my palms it glared the most so I fisted.
"I...I..." I stammered thinking of what to say.
"It's okay. The sun is reflecting on you." She said and bent her face down. I breathed down. I begged my body to stopped shining but it refused. My only option now was to keep her face down.
"I wish everyone here would forget what happened." She said and wiped her tears. I suddenly felt weird and then my shiny body quenched.
Immediately the school nurses came in with a stretcher. Vanessa was put on it and pushed away. I waved to her. As I much as I wanted to follow her, I couldn't. I walked out to see a student approach me.
"What's wrong with Vanessa?" She asked.
"Yeah what's wrong with her? Why are the school nurses here." Another asked behind me I turned to see it was Luke.
Why should Luke ask me such a question? He was there when the whole incident happened, so how could he ask. Wait! What if he doesn't remember. Vanessa wished earlier that everybody should forget what had happened and that was when my whole body was glaring and also when I had that awkward feeling. She wished me and I fufiled her wish. I made everyone forget.
"Well... she isn't feeling too well." I answered.
"Uhnnn... poor Vanessa. " The student said and shook her head walking away. And Luke followed. I immediately phoned Vanessa.
"Hello Vanessa."
"Yes." She answered.
"Don't tell the school nurses you had an attack. Just tell them any lie you can come up with."
"Why?"
"Just trust me Vanessa."
"Okay."
"Good. So call your parents and tell them you had an attack so they would come get you."
"Okay, sure." Vanessa said and hung up.
I felt weak, so weak. I rushed to the restroom with my last strength and I shut the door. I sat on the floor feeling dizzy. Slowly my eyes closed, I slept off.
I woke up and came out of the bathroom. I met someone outside the door, I guess she has been standing knocking all the while. She gave me a scared look. I knew she was wondering what I was doing in the restroom all the while.
••••••
I went out to the field. I needed some fresh air and energy as I pondered why I always lost so much strength after shining. Suddenly I felt a stone on my leg, someone threw it to me. I looked, it was Jeffrey and Aiden. I pretended I didn't see and turned around. I took a quick leave but someone stood before me. He was huge.
"Turn back, Jeffrey is calling you."
I looked besides the huge boy and saw his disciples. I had no other option than to turn back to where Jeffrey sat.
"You wanted to run?" Jeffrey asked but I was silent.
"Evan punched me through the face because of you." He added. My eyes widened and I stared at him in surprise. My heart skipped a beat as I looked at him. He was so handsome, I mean he was more than handsome, he was beautiful! But still that didn't absent his masculine features. His thick black hair slept to one side and his haircut was magnificent. He had long dark eye lashes with hazel eyes, his pink lips, his skin... I was breathless. He was perfect. My eyes glistened...I felt I was going to cry at his perfection...this person cannot be a demon as I called him, he... he.. was an angel... a gift from heaven... making me wonder why he was so rude and heartless, contradicting his face.
"Hey don't act oblivious, it's been the discussion on the students page since yesterday." He said bringing me out of my day dream.
Someone like me who rarely visits the page I didn't know that such an incident occurred. But why was he telling me this. It only meant he was up to something, Something so evil.
"He said I should never hurt you, tell me, what did you do to him?"
I shook my head.
"Oh she is dumb." Aiden said and they both laughed.
"Here." He said and handed me a notebook.
"That's history note. I want you to copy it till date."
What! History is such a long and boring subject to copy! This wasn't fair. But it wasn't as bad as I thought the punishment will be. He must have thought this was a punishment, but to me it wasn't. At least I had something to keep me up all night so I could escape my nightmares. I took my leave.
I was curious, I wanted to know why she meant so much to Evan. I decided not to use the hard way with her. As she turned to leave, her back was familiar. The physique, the height, the size was exactly that girl. The girl who has saved me twice. But how could she be the one? If she was she wouldn't let me bully her like that, she would have easily turned me to dust. She was a supernatural being after all. Still I needed answers, I needed to find out if she was the one.
"Stop!" He ordered and Aiden looked at him with surprise wondering why.
Stop? Why did he tell me to stop. No, don't tell me he recognized my back, the back of the person who saves him. Jeffrey was an artist, he always represented Edville in all their artistic competitions and never lost. He was D'Logan Empire top artist. He drew their best designs. So it wouldn't be hard for him to recognize my back, he was good with shapes and sizes. I shut my eyes tightly and swallowed before I turned and walked back to him.
She stood before me but I didn't know what to ask her. How could I ask if she was the girl who saves me, it sounded weird.
"Where were you last night?" He blurted.
"At home." Was my short answer.
"Around 8pm?" He continued.
Shit! he's trying to guess if I was the girl who saved him last night. That was the exact time I saved him. What do I answer now, I can't lie!
"I...I... was..." Immediately my phone rang, it was my mom. I picked the call up immediately. I wouldn't have done that because I was having a war with my parents. But now, they were the only way out of my trouble.
"Hello mom!" I yelled at the top of my voice and slowly walked away.
I was walking back to class after I talked to my mom, when i met Evan on the way.
"How is Vanessa doing? I heard she was rushed to the hospital because she was ill."
"I guess she'll be doing great. She has her parents taking care of her."
I answered.
"Yeah, you are right." He answered leaving.
"You fought with your friend because of me, why?" I asked and he stopped and turned around slowly.
"He hurt my friend, so I wanted to tell him he was wrong to a friend's friend."
I smiled. "Thanks."
"You're welcome." He said and smiled.
"What happened, why weren't you there yesterday? Did something happen?"
"No, maybe, yes! I was just caught up with something really important."
I could feel the tension in his voice. He was trying to hide something.
"And it's not something I should know?"
"No, I wouldn't want to bother you. So are we friends again?"
"Were we ever friends before?" I asked and we laughed.
"Yes. We are friends now." I added and he smiled nodding his head with his hands in his pocket.
"Bye, take care." I said and waved to him.
"Yeah." He replied watching me leave.
Jeffrey sat in his class, thinking about the being that saved his life. He wanted to see her again. Until a thought stroke his mind. Maybe he should try getting hurt so she would come safe him again. That was the best Idea he could ever think about.
"Hey Jeff, it's time to go, school is over what are you sitting there thinking about." Evan asked and threw Jeffrey the car keys.
"You know what dude, we aren't driving today, we are gonna walk home."
"What?! Are we in the 17th century?!" Aiden asked.
"Dude, you know it's dangerous. Our enemies could be out there waiting."
"That's exactly the impact I want. I need answers and I'm gonna get them today, so everyone would believe me." He said and stood up.
"Don't worry, I've ordered for tight security just in case. So you don't have to fear, people are watching us." He added.
"Wait, Jeffrey, don't tell me this is about the girl who you claimed saved your life when there was actually no one there!" Aiden said.
"There was someone there dude." Jeffrey said and tapped Aiden on the shoulder.
"Don't worry the girls have gone home, so there is nothing to be scared about. Now who is ready for an adventure." Jeffrey said and left the door so excited as though he won a lottery. For someone like him who had never had a long walk before, it wasn't surprising.
I walked my way home as usual. When I suddenly had that weird feeling again. It was Jeffrey, what was he up to again? I took off my bag and brought out a white hood.
Jeffrey and his friends laughed and talked as they walked by the road. The traffic light was red and they all crossed the road. His favorite ring fell off his finger. He rushed back to pick it and then came back crossing the road without checking the traffic light. It immediately shone green. A bus came running to him with full acceleration. He froze and didn't know what to do. All he did was shut his eyes and wait for his death. Suddenly he his feet were off the ground and a gentle arm that wrapped around him. He opened his eyes and saw he was on the other side of the road. His friends were on the other side screaming his name in fear. The bus blocked them from seeing us, it was quite a long bus.
I was on the ground and saw her again. Her back was facing me as usual. I tried to get up but her powers, aura kept me down. She took a step, she was about to leave.
"Wait!"
He ordered and I stopped.
"Who are you, and why are you saving me?"
I turned my face slightly and then ran.
She turned her face. It was day time so this time I saw her, I got a glimpse of her through her hood. She had some kind of gold eyes and she was a blonde. I saw a little part of her face too. I heard the footsteps of my friends and security approaching. They were late again and didn't get to meet my guardian. My guardian goddess.
••••••
After reconciliation, I mean with my parents and the promises we made to each other, I finally had dinner with them. After all, I've punished them enough. They actually had good intentions by reporting Jeffrey to the principal, but it didn't turn out well, it wasn't their fault.
My parents bid me goodnight and left my room switching off the lights. I stood up and put on a jacket. I opened my window and shut my eyes. I was trying to get Vanessa's scent. I wanted to know how she was doing. My eyes opened, I got the scent. I ran.
I got to the hospital and peeped into her room. Her parents were there with her including her elder brother Kyle. I was surprised to see him there. He stayed at London. Maybe he came back when he heard his little sister had an attack or maybe he was already in town. Kyle was way older than his sister. Vanessa was believed to be a miracle as her mom thought she would never give birth again. So that explains the age gap. Kyle never jokes with his little sister, she was his life. I admired how they all had their attention on her. I was worrying for nothing. I had to leave. I didn't want the security men standing by the door to notice I was peeping through the window. Kyle turned around and saw me. I smiled to him. He knew I and Vanessa and was also aware that his parents never wanted us to be friends, but he didn't care about that at all. All his concern was his sister's happiness so he was the only one in the family who approved us being friends. He smiled back at me and I left.
I felt someone's presence. I looked at the window and noticed someone just left there. I looked at my brother who just turned his gaze away from there. I knew it was Sapphire and he knew what I was thinking so he gave me a nod to confirm my thoughts. I let out a smile. Someone who said I should never come back into her life still found a way to come back to mine. She was worried about me and I was happy she did.
I reached home and took off my jacket and my wrist band. I had it on all day and it was discomforting. The moon like mark was still there shining purple. I felt worry kick in, but I diverted my thoughts. I had some notes to copy so I turned on the lamp and sat on my reading table copying. Suddenly I felt a presence in my room. I definitely knew someone was there in the dark. I turned on the lights just by thinking of it.
I looked around but saw nothing, suddenly the lights turned off. Who switched it off?
I looked around and stood up with fear.
"Who's there?"
I asked. I could feel the presence by my bathroom. I tried to turn the lights on by thinking as usual, but I couldn't. I could feel a greater power stopping me. I used all the energy I had, but to no avail. I began to nose bleed. I stopped struggling. Whatever was out there in the dark was definitely stronger than me. My lamp went off and suddenly I saw something shining red in the dark. I looked closely to realize it was someone's eyes. It was like a flaming fire. I heard it growl silently. I took a few steps back in fear. Immediately my vision enhanced. I saw what was in the dark. It was a beast. It was black and burnt like he had been in fire for long. He had long claws and a long thorny tail.
"Don't come near." I ordered.
It walked closer to me. While I took my steps behind. It looked as though it was surprised I could see him in the dark. He kept staring at the half moon shape shining in my wrist and at me. I tried to try anything, anything that could stop this beast from getting nearer. Immediately my eyes glowed and I swung my arms towards him. A flare left my palms and kept entering his body. He growled and growled. But then he twisted his hand and I stopped. It was like he twisted my intestines. I held my tommy and my eyes turned normal. He stretched his hand towards me like he was strangling me and I felt a tight hold on my neck even when he wasn't touching me. I tried to breathe touching my neck but I couldn't, I was suffocating. He lifted me into the air until I reached the ceiling. Immediately a black smoke left his body and began entering mine. I opened my mouth, I couldn't help myself. The smoke entered my mouth and the others, through my body. I saw him disappear. I fell to the ground so weak almost like I was lifeless. I looked at the light on my wrist it wasn't shining purple but red now. I fainted.
