I'll never forget the sacrifice you both made for me✓

I got home only to realize that nothing went wrong. The kids already left as it was 6:0oclock already. I passed my parents and went straight to my room. What Happened to me? Am I about to die? I sat on my bed and took deep breaths. Valerie was asleep and I didn't want to wake her. It then dawned on me that I had a mission by 7. I couldn't tell my parents, they dont let me out of home that much, and I knew they wouldn't let me if I were to even tell them I was going to a club. I went downstairs to have dinner. I never wanted to leave a reason for them to come check up on me when I was gone. They both wished me good night and left my room. I filled my bed with my pillows and teddy bears and covered it with my blanket. It did look like a sleeping human being. I placed Valerie gently on her bed, and left through the window. 7:00pm MS tower I was so shocked to see Vanessa there already. "How did you do it?" I asked "Well, I spoke to Jason and asked him for his help. He refused. But when I threatened that I was going to sneak out, and whatever happened to me, he will fight the guilt all his life, he agreed. You know Jason has a soft spot for me. For someone who has watched me since I was a kid, it wasn't hard to blackmail him. So, he gave an excuse for me, and here I am!" Jason has been Vanessa's personal bodyguard ever since she was a kid. She considers him a brother. "That's good! But did he just agree to let you go like that?" "No, he put a device on me that i don't know what it does. He said it'll help him watch over me." "Now I see why he let you have your way." Matilda cleared her throat, ending the discussion. "So what's the plan?" She asked. "Good, now what we have to do is to go check out the CCTV footage and see if we'll find anything there. We have to get in first and see how tight their security system is, then we'll know what to do. We must not talk to each other to avoid suspicion. instead, we'll text. So pay attention to your phones, but still, don't make it obvious." "Yes captain." Vanessa said. " I would like to say something." Matilda said. "Okay." I shrugged my shoulders. "You both dress like you are going for some secret business." "Yes we are!" Vanessa said. "Yes, but in a club. You need to dress like a person attending a club." Just then I looked at what I was putting on. A white hood on white pants, and a white snickers. Vanessa on the other hand was putting a hat, tinted shades, a black coat, pants and boots. Meanwhile Matilda was on a blue short fitted dress with a deep V back neck. She wore a light makeup and was on heels. "Yeah, we really look weird." Vanessa agreed. "Don't worry, I knew something like this would to happen. I wouldn't have expected any less from someone who hasn't been to a club before, so I got you covered." She said and brought out her bag. You both have to get changed. We came out of an empty warehouse by the club. I was putting a white short a white singlet and a half length long sleeved silver jacket on my snickers. Vanessa wore glasses, she was a princess and shouldn't be recognized. She wore a red mini fitted, sleeveless dress of fur on heels, we entered the party. The music was top notch, I could feel my head nod to the rock beat. I stood on the dance floor, Vanessa sat by the bar, Matilda, I can't say. Matilda: I've found the security room. You see those guards standing over there, that's the route to the room. She texted. Vanessa: How do we get in? Sapphire: Leave that to me. I closed my eyes and blocked all the sounds in the room. "Turn off..." I muttered. "Turn off... turn off!" I immediately opened my eyes. I could feel it glowed gold. Suddenly there was a power cut in the club. I blinked and my eyes turned normal. I knew what I did was risky, I needed to be sure Vanessa was safe. I ran to the bar and took her by hand it was dark and hard to see. We got to the door, The guards weren't there again. They obviously left to check what caused the cut. We stood by the door waiting for Matilda. "Matilda where are you?" Vanessa muttered. "Hey! Why did you leave your duty post!" A man putting on a black suit yelled at the men as the hall was noisy. "Go back!" He ordered and the men in black headed towards us and Matilda wasn't there yet. Suddenly someone pushed us in and closed the door. "Matilda?" Vanessa called. "Yes, it's me." "Where have you been?" "Sorry, I needed to settle some scores." She whispered. "It's so dark in here, I can't see." Vanessa whispered. I could feel her heart thump in her chest. Suddenly, my sight became a little blurry and then I noticed I saw clearly in the dark. How did this happen? I haven't seen in the dark so clearly before. This was something new. "Girls, hold onto me." I said and they held me while I led the way. I saw someone coming and pushed them Into a corner where we all hid while he passed. We heard some indistinct voices. We walked to the sound of the voices. "Isn't that Mr Gregory, I see him on TV all time. He is Regina's dad assistant." Vanessa whispered. "So Regina's dad is supporting his daughter?" I asked "Of course he will, we are talking about his daughter here and his career." "Why are they here?" Matilda added and gasped. "Maybe they are here for the CCTV footage. The CCTV footage is still intact." "But why, how?" Vanessa asked. "Maybe something went wrong, we can't say." I answered. "They are not leaving despite the power cut." Vanessa said. "Fear, they won't leave here until the power is restored. They won't take any chances." Matilda added. "But we have to get the CCTV footage before they do anything to it. How can we do that now." I closed my eyes and suddenly, smoke filled the room. "What's happening where is the smoke coming from?" Greg asked covering his nose with his arms. "I don't know." An engineer answered trying to look for the source of the smoke but couldn't, it was hard to see. "We need to leave this place! We don't know the source of the the power cut yet, and it looks like there is going to be a fire!!" A computer operator yelled. "Mr Gregory, we need to leave this place." A guard said coughing. "I'm not leaving without ensuring that that footage is done with." He replied. "Sir it's not safe!" Another yelled. "Let's get outta here!" He said the smoke was too much and he was suffocating. Immediately everyone vacated the room. We entered the room and I made the smoke disappear. "What's happening, why did it disappear?" Matilda asked. "I'd say God is on our side." I said while the both of them nodded smiling. "Okay, how do we get the footage, there is no power for the computers." Vanessa asked. "Um.. let me check." I said as though I was looking for a device that could power computers. "Gotcha!" I exclaimed bringing out only God knows what. "What is that used for?" "This... is a device that powers other devices just like the inverter." "Oh!" They both exclaimed nodding. It was obvious they didn't know what it was but wanted to act like they did. I myself didn't know what it was used for. "Okay then, power the computers, we don't have time." Matilda said. I carried the cable and pretended to plug it into the device, but didn't. I transferred current from my body into the cables and the computers turned on. "The Lord is really on our side." I heard Vanessa mutter. Matilda immediately brought out a flash drive from her pocket and inserted it into the computer. "Quickly, go to the night of the incident." Vanessa said. "Hurry up....I can't hold it anylonger." I said. I guess, the part I said hurry up they heard clearly, but the others they didn't as I mumbled to myself. "Wait! Go back." Vanessa said to Matilda. Immediately, there was Regina giving drugs to someone by the rest room. "Wait, she also sold drugs? Impossible." Matilda said and started copying the file. She forwarded it a bit and saw Regina dancing and scattering the club drunk. Tears fell from Matilda's eyes as she began copying the file. "Hurry up." I said and opened my golden eyes I looked away from them so they wouldn't see it. The pain was too much now, I was using too much of my strength. "We are almost there, it's 90%" Vanessa said. I heard footsteps, someone was coming. "Someone is coming." I said. "s**t! come on hurry." Matilda spoke to the computer as though it could hear her. A flashlight flashed into the room, as some men entered and picked something from the table. "The smoke is gone, at a point I thought there was going to be a fire outbreak or something." One said. "I don't know what's happening tonight. I don't seem to see the reason for the power cut either. Everything is in place. My head is gonna bolt out of frustration." The other said as they left the room. We came out of our hiding place under the table heaving a sigh of relieve. "So close." Vanessa muttered. "Did everything copy complete." I asked. "Yes." "So we need to get outta here. stick to me." I said. Slowly, I opened the door and saw some men discussing at the other end. "Shhhh you must be quiet." We slowly walked out hiding. "How are you able to see in such darkness." Matilda whispered. "Instincts." "That's true, Sapphire has a very high instinct." Vanessa concurred. We were out of the club when Matilda realized that it was only the club that had a blackout. "Wait, how come there is power cut only at the club?" "I'd say God is on our side." Ever since I said that, it never left Vanessa's lips. And now, it sounded really funny. I smiled and closed my eyes, immediately I opened my eyes, power was restored to the club. "God is really on our side." Vanessa muttered again as she saw the restored power. "Come on, let's go." Matilda said and we began leaving when a voice brought us to a halt. "Hello, hello, look who we have here? The three musketeers. I knew you would come Matilda, but I didn't expect you to bring company. It's a pleasure to finally meet you princess, and her friend who I don't recognize." The masculine voice spoke. "Oh no! Someone recognized us." I thought. Evan entered his house holding his jacket revealing his tied arm. His mom sat on the sofa sipping some wine. Seeing her son, she stood up and ran to him as she surveyed his body nervously. "Mom, please, I need to go freshen up." "Are you okay? Show me where you're hurt. Your arm." She said as she saw his tied arm. "Mom, I'm fine." Evan said and retrieved his arm. "Let me just take a look at it." "I'm fine mom!" He yelled and slightly pushed his mom a bit. She staggered but gained her stamina. Tears welled her eyes as she looked at her son. "I'm sorry mom, I'm sorry." He said and embraced her. "I'm more sorry Evan, I'm sorry for always telling you to leave, I know it hurts a lot but.." "That's enough... shhhh." He said and gripped his crying mother tightly rubbing her hair. "It's okay, I'm fine mom, okay?" He said and released his mom off his grip wiping her tears with his thumb. "I'm fine." "I know, but atleast let me have a look." She said and pulled Evan to a chair. She squatted and untied the handkerchief that was stained with blood. But, there was no injury there. "Evan, are you sure you were hurt here?" "Yes mom, I was..." Just then he looked at his hand but didn't find any injury there. "But... that's impo..." He immediately had a flash back on how Sapphire tied his arm. He took the clothe from his mother and stared at it. "What did she do, it was bleeding badly, how could it have disappeared without a scratch." He soliloquiesed. "She? Who?" "A friend." Evan said as he pecked his mom on the head and stood up. "Friend? I haven't heard you call anyone friend apart from the people from your band." "Yeah, this is a new friend." He said leaving. "I'll just go freshen up mom, goodnight." He said walking upstairs. Evan avoided looking into his mom's eyes, he never wanted to remember that night, he would see those pains in her eyes and maybe do something stupid. He entered under the shower and kept thinking about Sapphire. "Why? You watched someone you love get hurt and you couldn't do anything about it?" Her voice came ringing in his head as he stepped out of his bathroom with a towel around his waist. He sat on his bed, staring at the handkerchief in his hand. When there was a knock on the door. "Come in." "I'm sorry young master," The maid said about to leave as she saw his bare body. "No it's okay," He said and she turned around. "Take, have this." He handed her the clothe." "Should I do away with this, young master?" She asked looking down as she took it. "No! I need you to clean it and bring it back dry." "Understood." She said, bowed and left his room. Evan stood up and put on his sleeping clothes. The maid came in and dropped the dry handkerchief on the drawer and left the room. Evan took it and placed it carefully in the drawer. He passed his fingers through his hair and fell to his bed. We all turned around to see this man in black. "My name is Steve." He said and walked around us. "What do you want?" I asked. "You should rather let me say, what are you looking for. Maybe this?" He said and brought out his phone before our faces. "The video, the real video of Regina!" Matilda blurted. "Yeah the real video." He said putting the phone back in his pocket. "How did you get that video?" Vanessa asked. "I'm a blogger, I wanted a news that would put me on the spotlight. I happened to be here that night. I took the video and uploaded it, but Regina made it disappear, she ruined my long dream." "However Steve." Vanessa said and stepped forward. "Your dream may not be totally ruined. I could give you a better dream? Name your price, how much? Steve..." "Steve Mann." He completed. "Fifty thousand dollars." He added. "We are students!' Matilda yelled. "Fifty thousand dollars you say? Here." Vanessa fetched some money from her wallet and waved it to him. "Give my friend your phone, I'll give you a hundred thousand." "I like your deal princess." He said and handed the phone to me, while Vanessa gave him the money. It was obvious Steve was a hungry blogger. "It was nice doing business with you. Till we meet again, bye Steve." She said and we left. "How come you carry so much money around?" I asked. "Emergency purposes." Vanessa answered and we stopped at a safe spot. All the while, Matilda was silent. "Thanks." She finally spoke as she blinked severally to fight the tears in her eyes. "I've never imagined you helping me in my entire life. I promise I'll pay you back. Once everything fall into place." "You don't have to." Vanessa said and rubbed Matilda's arm. "Wait, once everything fall into place? Did something happen?" I asked. "It's nothing serious." She answered and wiped the tears that fell from her eyes. "Stupid tears." she mumbled. "What happened?" I asked again. "Dad chased me away from home. I couldn't prove myself innocent today. He froze my accounts and said he severed all ties with me." She said and burst in tears. "Hey," Vanessa said and embraced her. That's so cruel, I thought. "So you don't have a place to stay?" I asked when they released each other, and she shook her head. "It's alright, I'll book a hotel for you." Vanessa said. "No Vanessa, you've already done so much for me." "So where are you gonna stay?" Vanessa asked worried. "She can stay at my house." I said. "I'll stay at your house then." She agreed. "Do you still have a lawyer?" I asked. "No, she's my family's lawyer. And I don't have enough money to hire another." "Wait, so we don't have any lawyer for tomorrow's case? That's bad." Vanessa admitted. Jason walked to us with his hands behind him. "We have to leave now my Lady, I don't know how long I can cover for you, your mom wants you home." He was always a man with few but specific words. He examined Vanessa from her feet to her hair. "You..." "I'll explain everything thing on our way home." Vanessa interrupted. She knew he was going to ask about her change in clothing. "Hello Mr Jason." I said and waved while he gave a slight bow. "I'll join you soon Jason." Vanessa said, he bowed and returned to the car. "Here Vanessa..." I said and brought out Steve's phone and the flash drive. "You should keep this, it will be safer with you." "Okay. You both should take care. Bye." She took the flash drive and phone and embraced me and Matilda. "Bye." I and Matilda retorted as we watched her walk away. I got to the door and stood there without knocking. I couldn't sneak Matilda into my room and make her feel like a thief. And even if I did, my parents might find out if they para-venture, visit my room. I pressed the door bell. "Who could that be?" Brenda asked as she opened the door without checking who it was. "Hi Mom." Brenda froze. "You..." She pointed to me and my bedroom and tilted her head in confusion. I smiled. "That was risky Sapphire, you should have just told us, atleast, we would have joined you to ensure you are safe." Davis said as he watched Matilda who drank her tea. It was obvious she hadn't had anything to eat. "So this Justice department, you and Vanessa are going to court tommorow." Brenda asked. "Yes." I nodded and sipped my tea. "Thanks Sapphire's parents for letting me stay here." Matilda said and dropped the cup. "It's Davis and Brenda." Davis corrected and she nodded. My mom served Matilda food and she pounced on it. We all looked at her with so much pity. I began to worry that she doesn't choke to death or something. "So, did you guys find what you were looking for at the club?" Davis asked. "Yes, we found the footage and a video from a blogger." I answered. "Wow! That's a huge progress. But why was the footage still there. Such a footage should have been wiped off by now." "Yes, there was no footage there, I found it in the recycle bin." Matilda said with food stuffed in her mouth. "That only means that, they deleted it from the main source which made the police unable to find any evidence. But they left it at the recycle bin so they would be sure the evidence was gotten ridden off. That was why Gregory was there, to ensure everything was wiped off." "That's the only thing that makes sense dad." I commented. Silence fell. My dad walked to where I sat and placed his hands on my shoulders. "Honey, this is the first time I've ever seen you do something so brave. You've always been so shy and introverted. Hearing you started a department and you went as far as looking for evidence?... I've never been prouder. And no matter how I want to scold you and shout at you for taking such a risk, sneaking out of home, I find myself short of words. Don't ever do that again. Whatever you want to do, you should tell us. We'll support you if it's good for you and talk you out of it if it's bad for you. We are your parents, it's our duty to protect you. What if something happened to you? I've had so many wild imaginations already and it frightens me. Please, don't ever do that again. Tell us anything you wanna do, we'll support you. Okay?" "Okay." I said and nodded. "My baby is gonna be on TV tommorow, you are gonna be famous soon! And I your mother should stick to you more often so everyone will know I'm your mother." Brenda said as she gave her daughter a peck. We all laughed. "So, does this mean you are both coming to court tommorow?" I asked. "Of course we will." They both chorused. We all looked at the table to see Matilda had emptied all her plates already. We stared at each other wondering how she finished so much food in such a short time. "Do you need more." Brenda asked. "No, I'm okay. Thanks ma'am and sir." "Don't mention." Davis said. "I think you both should freshen up and get some rest now, you'll have a long day tomorrow." He added. "Yes, Mom, goodnight." I said and gave the both of them a peck. "Goodnight." They both chorused. Matilda watched us in admiration. I knew she missed home. "Come on Matilda." I said "Goodnight." She said and waved to my parents. "Goodnight night." They waved back as they watched us walk upstairs. Matilda took her bath and I rolled on my bed. Why did I offer her to stay in my room? She would have just stayed at the guest room? Come on Sapphire, Matilda has been through a lot and shouldn't be left alone. But what would I do now? If I have nightmares tonight and everything in my room flies into the air with my golden eyes and Matilda sees it, what will I tell her? I don't really even know much about myself to explain myself to someone? This is not good. I thought. Matilda came out of the bathroom putting on my clothes. "Thanks Sapphire, for your clothes." "No don't mention." I said She slipped into the bed and I adjusted a bit. My bed was big enough to contain four persons so, there was still room. "I'll never forget the sacrifice you both made for me today." Matilda said drowsily and yawned. "Goodnight." She mumbled as she slept off. I stayed still to ensure she was really asleep and then I slowly came down from my bed and went to the bathroom. I filled the bathtub with water and put my whole body in it. Before I found out I was a Sheenite, I thought I was a mermaid or maybe one in my former life. When I was six, I fell into a river. According to my parents, I stayed in the water for two hours and they already have up that even if I was found, I'd be dead. But when the divers found me, I was laughing like nothing happened. Water was my resting place, a place I found comfort and peace. I never felt suffocated, making me wonder why people get drowned. Atleast this was the only place I could stay without having nightmares and make things fly into the air. I slowly closed my eyes and slept off. **********
