CHAPTER 4
***
I rolled over to the other side and slept for another hour.
It's a good thing I didn't have a nightmare last night, might as well take this as my chance to enjoy sleeping. I opened my eyes the second I heard something creak.
My eyes widened as the knob violently shook, it stopped. I sat up from the bed and looked at the door. I let out a scream when someone banged on the door.
I covered my mouth trying to control myself from screaming when I realized there was smoke coming from the outside. I climbed out of the bed to try and make an escape through the window, but before I could further step my vision started to cloud. I shook my head believing it would help me focus but to no avail it just got worse. I feel exhausted-no my body feels exhausted-so I let it take over me and slump to the floor. What is happening?
***
My eyes jolt open when I felt a stinging sensation on my cheek. I groaned but it came out as a wince.
"Wakey wakey, princess." said a voice I wasn't familiar with.
I was sitting on a chair with my arms tied behind. My body felt sore and my head was throbbing so bad that I shut my eyes to take a deep breath before opening it again.
I screamed when I felt something hard land on my stomach making me fall to the floor along with the chair that I was tied to that was now broken. I felt the rope sag behind me but I didn't make it obvious for them to notice.
My eyes widened when I saw the woman standing before me was my mother-or so I thought.
"Mom?" it was nearly a whisper since my voice was so hoarse it made my throat ache. She didn't say anything but smirk, she moved forward, I winced when she grabbed me up by the arm.
"Like that?" now that I think of it, she only looks one but she didn't sound like her. I tried to wiggle out of her grasp but instead, I felt something dig in my skin which made me scream in pain. She let me go and I fell to the ground, I couldn't do anything with my hands both tied so I curled up in a fetus position to try to ease the pain in some way.
Tears were now brimming in my eyes and soon enough I was crying like a child. I thought she would stop, instead, she grabs a fist of my hair and dragged me across the room. I could easily tell that we were still inside the house due to the woodsy scent it was giving.
Mother wouldn't hurt me or even let a strand of my hair out of place. This woman before me is not her and I can assure that. She looked like her but her voice, smell, and the way she acts is far from my Mother.
This one is a monster.
I snapped out of my thoughts when I felt something hard hit my head. I winced and looked up, base on the table I knew we were in the living room.
I turned my gaze to the woman who squatted in front of me, "Such a prize," she said with a smug look on her face.
"I wonder what they'll do with you once I delivered you to them." she continues
As much as I want to spit on her face, I didn't want to take another beating my body couldn't handle. I stayed quiet and my lips on a thin line.
I looked away not wanting to see any more of her. How dare she use my mother's face! Believe me when I say I am killing her a thousand times in my head right now. Once I get out of being tied I will kill this woman.
"Let's say, you would get out of being tied..." she stood a meter away with her back facing me and continued, "but then you couldn't do anything other than that because you're a weakling," she said the last word like it was disgusting.
I lightly shift when I felt my energy coming back. I sat up and slowly wriggle my hands out of the ties, but I didn't let it too obvious since I wouldn't want to half another of her fit.
I noticed that she was busy with something on her hand and I took this as my chance to grab a chair and slam it on her back. Yes, typical.
I ran into the kitchen and turned on the gasoline's seal open. I grabbed a bunch of small knives, it was the only ones that were near my grasp. My hair was yanked back and I was thrown against the kitchen counter hitting my side. I cried out in pain and slumped to the ground as I feel it double. I t was a searing pain you feel when you've hit your toe on a hard edge.
"Princesses are well behaved, they say." she took steps toward me and stopped, "but I guess you are far from a princess." and smirked.
I spit at her face, I was expecting some kind of reaction and there was none. She c****d her head to the side and stared right into my eyes. Her eyes turned black and it was far too late when I realized she had thrown me across the room.
Everything was like in slow-motion then everything went back to normal when my back got in contact with the wall and landed with a loud thud on the floor.
I groaned and picked my self up. I leaned to the wall behind me and realized I was still holding tight on the knives. Everything is becoming hazy, my breath hitched and all I could hear is a buzzing sound.
I grip on the knives and the next thing I did was far from my abilities. The knives landed in the middle of her chest that caught her off-guard. She screamed as she stairs on the knife before looking up to me.
"Silverstone." she seethed as if it was poison on her mouth. I took a step back when her body shooked.
I bolted out of the door but I got hit by a hard wall. I tried stepping forward but I felt a hard wall was blocking me, my eyes widened when I reached in front and feel something hard. I looked back and saw her taking slow steps as she plunged one of the knives out and threw towards my direction.
I quickly dodged and ran to the other side of the porch with nowhere left to run.

I reached to my chest when I felt that odd sting I have been experiencing for the past months. I shrugged the thought of and continued what I was doing earlier.
I checked my watch and mentally rolled my eyes. I slumped on my seat and sighed. Thirty more minutes and class will be dismissed. I spent the remaining time doodling on the back of my notebook. When I heard the bell ring I gathered things and stuffed it inside my bag. I'll organize it later as of now I need to hurry because I have a party to attend to.
I am not a werewolf nor a vampire or even a mermaid. Let's say I am part human and the other half is something I don't want to discuss.
I greeted some people I know 'goodbye' as I headed to where my motorcycle is. As soon as I got on and slid my head into the helmet, I sped out of the school grounds.
“Hey, watch it!” a guy said as I sped out.
I didn't have time to stop and say sorry since I was rushing to the party. Being late is highly unacceptable in our world because it means disrespect. It was highly unlike for the Elders to hold a party since they only do it when there is an important announcement just like 200 years ago. That was when the Hybrids got accepted in our society.
I arrived just in time to be escorted to my table. Some were giving me confused looks but I shook it off since I've been dealing it my entire life.
Soon each of the tables was filled except for mine since I was the only one who doesn't have a pack or whatever you call it. I refused on being in one because I didn't want to be used by a pack to gain an advantage among others. I am a faithful friend and I won't do anything that could harm them unless she will.
I shook my head to take the image of the woman I once admired out of my mind. I never expected her to turn against us.
'People change.' a voice in my head said, my other half. My other half doesn't have her name, because she is me and I am her. She talks in my head whenever she wants to. It is a bit more complicated than people think. Only a few knew about this and I don't plan on telling someone anymore because it might turn them against me.
"People," I said to my self and chuckled, I took a sip of my wine and leaned back. Right after I checked the time, waiters came out with food and placed it on each table.
'Very formal', I mentally rolled my eyes to her teasing remark.
I ate my food with delight. I roamed my eyes and noticed only those who are present inland are here. 'I guess there won't be an important announcement.' I said to my other half.
A moment later, Elder Dimitri stood at the high place. Everyone stopped their chatter and stood up, we bowed to show him respect.
"You don't need to bow. As of tonight, we are all equal, unless you get in trouble." the crowd erupted with chuckles. "Go on, continue what you were doing." he walks off but we heard him say, "Now, where is that woman." and with that everyone laughed.
Elder Dimitri is nearing his 900th birthday but he acts like he is still in his teen years. I took a seat and continued eating. Their food tastes like heaven. I swear if I was only at home eating this my eyes would've rolled to the back of my head and let my moan out, but I don't want to turn on the unmated males with my moan.
'You're only saying that because it's spaghetti.' she said which made me internally roll my eyes. 'Who cares, it's my favorite.'
The party is held deep in a forest where only us knows about, no human knew of this place since it is sealed and it wards off uninvited guests. We don't despise them-some might- we are taking extra precautions because we don't want to destroy the balance of peace. Losing the hybrids was enough to wreak havoc, what more if they discovered we do exist. It would break the balance and might lead to war against them. The blood spilled during the great war is enough for us to lessen our egos and the loss of the hybrids left a deep scar within us.
It was during those times when mythical creatures were not fond of each other that it leads to the deaths of many. One of the princesses was paired to an Alpha of the highest order. Typical isn't it? A princess mated with a werewolf, but what caused the conflict to rise was when the princess, her family, and people were cursed by a witch. The witch embedded a seed in each one of them that will soon consume them into the darkness turning them into vampires. To stop the imbalance that was getting worse, the Moon Goddess gave them a second chance to live in exchange for bringing peace into the realm of mortals and that was when the Moon Goddess banished every one of us into the mortal realm to serve our trial.
I am not saying that vampires are all pure evil. They simply are not since it is a matter of choice whether you turn your back from the light or accept it. Most of those who turned their back became γυμνός (gymnós) which mean stripped in English. They are called of such because they are stripped from their titles and rights because they don't have humanity in them anymore since they turned their back and chose to live in the dark side.
I snapped out of my thoughts when I felt something inside of me stir. My chest feels like burning, I clutched my chest and whispered some words.
My attention diverted to the man who was kneeling in front of the council. I guess I was too enveloped with the memories of the past that I failed to keep track of what happened when I was drifting into my thoughts.
I could hear myself panting which earned me a few glances from those sitting behind me. I controlled my breath and act like I was fine but deep down I was not. I stood up and started to walk away when I was stopped on my tracks by one of the guards.
"Miss Lilliana, are you alright?"
I'm not! I wanted to shout and tell him that but I couldn't, not in front of this number of people and to think that they are leaders. I need to get out of here fast. Something is wrong I can feel it but it feels like something is suppressing me from alerting me.
"... a scar." I quickly turned around to where it came from, "What was that?" I accidentally said aloud.
The man who was kneeling didn't answer so I made my way in front of him not minding the crowds stare. "I didn't quite hear you." I hissed
He was trembling and his eyes were glued to the ground as if he was restrained. Being an impatient woman that I am I grabbed him by the collar so he would face me and look me in the eye, but what I didn't expect to see was another person's.
I stare into it with wide-eye before dropping the man. My breath hitched.
"Step back, Lilliana." a voice said, it came from the one that took me in after being abandoned by my mother.
This can't be happening. This shouldn't happen. I got drawn out of my thoughts when I felt something plunge in my stomach. The man stabbed me in swift advance that not even the guards were able to stop him, not even the council.
"You.." I said in a whisper.
"Miss me?" his voice was not from a man like he sounded a while ago, he sounded like her. The woman that scarred my life and turned everyone against my kind.
All I could do was to use some of my residues to save the man she bewitched, as long as she controls him he dies. Knowing how dark magic works it takes life for a life, and right now I knew she's been living in that body for quite some time now.
I placed my right palm on his chest and chanted, "Lucius Annaeus Seneca" he screamed and a black smoke emerges out of his body making everyone gasp but before Elder Averyl could trap it, it vanished.
Just when I took a step back a searing pain invaded my chest making me scream in agony. Another searing pain invaded my body, but I felt it most pain on both of my arms. Runes were now forming on my body as I screamed in agony. Every letter appearing felt like my skin was being ripped out. I noticed the crowd taking a step back as Elder Averyl drew out a barrier that surrounded me making my space and to prevent me from hurting those around. The man before was now being held down by two guards.
“N-no.” the words came out a whisper. Another searing pain evaded my whole body making me scream again in agony. I saw flashes of memory in my mind.

“Anastasia” the word left my mouth and realization hit me.
