Even how many times I would think of something that made Dad cheat on Mom, I couldn’t find any of her aspects that made him do such a thing. Perhaps, it was the thing they called – fall out of love. And as time leads to quiver, they tried many times – all over again until they break themselves. Or, it was just an aspect that made me senseless about love. I don’t want to hate anyone, but I guessed this woman, Amber’s mother had made me one and I felt sorry for her.
The moon was shining gaily. My stomach was full and I could say that she is great in the kitchen. I rubbed my stomach and thanked her for it. It was an hour after, but it felt like it was a lifetime. The window was partially opened, letting me feel the cold situation. It was benign as I heeded the crickets noise as well as the toads croaking. The tree’s branches scrupulously scrabbled the wall outside as its shadow was waving at me in full hands. I suddenly heard a soft, feverish whistle outside the door, and then came some tapping steps on the surface. An arm slowly passed through it and a grinning face was discerned. It was her.
Still, she’s giving me the goosebumps every time she would do such a horrible face that would make someone pee in his pants. I rolled my eyes at her. It’s seven in the evening, but I can already hear Mrs. Aliana snoring loud. Galvin is in his own room next to mine and I made sure that he’s sleeping.
“I heard you burp like an ogre. Can you at least act as a decent woman once in your life?” She winced.
I rolled my eyes and tried to mimic her words, then replied. "Don’t you know I won the best actor in our school? Trust me, when I’m around the others, I can perfectly fine act like they’re just talking to the old Amber they once knew.” I assured her.
“Fine. Then, use your skills. Impressed me, Mr. Singh.” She smirked.
Amber took her steps inside. She stood in front of me with a void face, extending her arms. Her feet didn’t touch the ground and her dress was swaying slowly in mid air. She just put her hair into a messy bun. After a while, Ms. Adair had entered a room with a turtle-neck, green long dress. A bright yellow belt was around her waist. Her feet were covered with black wedge shoes and her hair was tied with a large green ribbon.
I made a contemptuous look when I saw her face, brightly colored with shades. Her eyebrows were neatly trimmed, her lips lusciously painted with dark red lipstick, her cheeks on blush and her eyelids on green mixed with yellow eyeshadows. She was smiling widely, letting us see her teeth. She’s definitely in a good mood right now and she’s way too different. Her sense of fashion is quite unpredictable.
I should have taken a photo of her but she would surely not appear in the camera and I don’t want to make a fuss if anyone would see the missing owner of that haunted house.
She clapped her hands slowly and moved near to us. Her black pouch was held on her right wrist. Clearing her throat, she said, “I was getting myself to sleep, but then, a heard a familiar sound and it was a whistle. Amber did call and summon me here.”
I glanced over Amber who was yawning every once in a while. She wiped her eyes and told, “We need her right now to make things easier.”
Ms. Adair nodded silently.
“How?”
Ms. Adair snapped her fingers and a white, fuzzy chair appeared beside her. She took her seat and crossed her arms. “From what we have discussed, you need to earn their forgiveness and need to collect their tears. But uh! Your time is limited. So, in order for you to finish your mission, I’ll give you a timeframe for the people you owe.”
She snapped once again and a mini glass hour was on her lap. She gently raised it so we could see how the white sand is slowly moving inside. We heard her giggle.
“This will serve as your time for every person that you needed to find. Every once in a while, I’ll be giving you this. With this span of time, you need to do your task. And be concerned with what’s around you, especially the foul ones. Have you encountered one already?”
Now, her face was a bit stiff. She gave it to Amber.
“Are we the only ones who can see this thing?”
Ms. Adair nodded. “Yes.”
“What will happen if we can’t collect any tear in such a given time?”
She stood from her seat and travelled in the side of the room, tracing her fingers on the paintings on the wall. “Simple. You failed the mission. And you already know what will happen to you. Eventually, your real body will collapse and you’ll just stay with Amber’s body until your lifetime.
I shrugged at that thing for I don’t want it to happen. It’s driving me crazy if I should just let myself be precise as ever.
“You should take your part, Trenton and act starting tomorrow. You don’t want the time to be wasted right? As for Amber, you need to come with me early in the morning. You have another mission, in which you don’t need Trenton’s help for now. You have to search for Galvin’s personal deals. ”
She scraped her head. “Fine. It’s not like I have any other things to do. I’ll do anything you want.”
“And oh.” She opened her bag and a tail appeared and a head attended fast. It was Guitz; now his body being wrapped with a black knitted top. He waved his cute hands at us as his whiskers moved. He leapt out from Ms. Adair’s bag and crawled on the floor to my bed.
“Good evening, lad. How have you been? This place is quite homey. Are you having fun this time? Oh, look at there, a tiny hole for me to reside.” He blubbered, pointing his fingers to the right corner, just beside my table where a hole is located.
“I’m still adjusting to this kind of environment.” I promptly said. I took a yawn as I feel myself getting rest.
“How’s my Mom and Dad?...” I added.
He rubbed his tail and smiled. “They’re quite fine. Your mother is taking most of her time in the hospital. Sometimes, she would go out and buy some groceries, take your clothes from the house and more. Your Dad barely visits you in your room, so I have to make my move. I also don’t want you to feel bad about him so I followed him for four days and it turned out that he’s so dedicated to his job now. Almost every three hours, he would call your mother and asked your condition. One time, he visited you and your Mom and he was bringing a basket loaded with fruits and also a tray filled with chicken salad.” The mouse said.
“Thank you for looking after them, Guiltz.”
Ms. Everly placed her hand on my shoulder and smiled. “They’re fine and we’ll make sure of that. Anyways,” She looked at her gold watch. “I need to go. I still have a client to meet. You know, those individuals who’re dealing with the afterlife. So, goodbye. Always remember, that I’m eyeing you too. So, don’t do anything so reckless. Understood, kids?” She said and grabbed her bag.
“Yeah. I’ll see you around tomorrow.” Amber said.
The woman bowed her head and instantly disappeared in front of us. Guiltz didn’t follow her and was left with us. Currently nibbling the biscuits of the child that was still on the plate, tiny bits of it were scattered. He’s enjoying his meal. I smiled at him. Finishing his food, he looked at us and said,
“I’m sorry, I haven’t eaten all day. Onis had been dealing with the locations lately and I have to report to him every time I locate the people connected with those who’re in their mission just like you. Man, my legs hurt. I just travelled from city to city.” He pouted.
I slowly rubbed his head, making him lenient a bit.
Amber sat beside me as her eyes roamed the room.
“I missed this place. It was a hell of messy before, but now it was well organized. I guessed Mom had a time to clear things in our house, especially my stuff. She even painted it into pink, which was blue before. She had remembered how I requested her a couple of times to change the color of my room, and I guessed this time she was able to do my entreat.” She let out a soft chuckle.
Amber took a sigh and collapsed herself on the bed. “Hey.” She looked at me. Guiltz was between us.
“What will you do now? Now that you’re in your residence and your dad’s mistress, which’s my Mom is living with you. Are you going to take revenge on my mother?” Her eyes were full of concern and novelty.
I laid beside her and watched her ceiling wall. “I don’t know. But one thing is for sure, I want to know what kind of your mother is. Revenge is just within my grasp, but I don’t want our bond to be ruined, not right now. And this thing is just related to us, so we better have an understanding.”
“Right. Whether I like it or not, you’re the only one whom I can rely on.” She commented.
“Likewise. So…” I glanced at her. “Are you ready for tomorrow?”
“Not really. But I need to."
