Sarah's heart raced as she stood frozen in the small restaurant, the noise and confusion of reporters blocking her path to Nathaniel. The noise twisted and flowed around her, and she could feel the weight of unspoken words pressing against her chest. "Sarah! Are you okay?" Mark's voice cut through the noise as he approached her, concern etched on his face. "I'm fine," she replied, but she wasn't. Panic flowed through her veins. "I just... I wanted to talk to him." "About what? The interview?" He frowned, quickly looking at the group of reporters surrounding Nathaniel. "Looks like that's not happening now." "Not just the interview," she whispered, her mind racing. "There's so much more in danger of being lost." "I know," Mark said gently. "But do you really think this is the right time? You don't want to throw everything out there in front of an audience." Sarah's look drifted back to Nathaniel. He was standing tall, fielding questions with practiced ease, but she could see the tension in his jaw. "I don't have a choice. I need him to know about Lily." Mark's eyes widened. "You're not serious. You want to drop that big, attractive woman now?" "I don't want to--" she began, but her words were drowned out by the reporters' shouts. "Mr. Chase! Any comments about the legal accusations?" one shouted, his camera flashing like a strobe light. Nathaniel's expression hardened, and he shot a quick look back at Sarah. There was something in his eyes--recognition, maybe? Or maybe it was just anger. "Enough!" he barked, his voice cutting through the noise. "I'll make a statement when I'm ready." As the crowd pressed closer, Sarah felt a sudden rush of strong desire to decide about something. She had to grab and take control of this moment. "I'm going after him," she declared, turning to Mark. "Wait! You can't--" But she was already moving, weaving through the crowd of reporters. Her heart pounded in her ears as she pushed past a camera crew, a strong desire to decide about something fueling her steps. She had to reach him before it was too late. "Mr. Chase!" she called out, her voice rising above the noise and confusion. "Please, I need to talk to you!" Nathaniel turned, his eyes locking onto hers. For a short-lived moment, the noise faded away, and it felt as if they were the only two people in the room. "Sarah!" he yelled, surprise mixed with annoyance. "This isn't the time." "Then when?" She stepped closer, feeling the heat radiating off his body. "I can't let you walk away again." He waited, his expression shifting. "Not here. We can't talk like this." "Why not?" she pressed. "Everyone already knows you're in trouble. What's one more secret?" "Because this isn't just about us!" His voice dropped to a whisper, extreme importance lacing his words. "This is about my company, my reputation. You have no idea what's in danger of being lost." "Neither do you!" she shot back, her frustration boiling over. "You don't know what it's like to raise a child alone while hiding the truth!" His eyes widened at her, the weight of her words hanging heavily between them. "What are you talking about?" he asked, his voice low. But before she could respond, a loud crash echoed through the small restaurant. A fight had broken out among the reporters, and noise and confusion. Cameras toppled, voices shouted, and Nathaniel was pulled back into the fight. "Mr. Chase! Over here!" A reporter pushed forward, shoving a microphone in Nathaniel's face. "Get back!" Nathaniel shouted, frustration etched on his brow. Sarah's heart sank as she watched him being pulled away, the connection they had just relit slipping through her fingers like sand. She felt a sudden rush of very upset feelings of hopelessness. She couldn't let him go again. Not without interesting things. As she turned to follow him, she felt someone grab her arm. "You need to leave now," a voice hissed very badly. It was Rebecca, Nathaniel's business partner, her expression strong and scary. "They're going to drag you into this if you're not careful." "Why do you care?" Sarah shot back, pulling her arm free. "Because I know what happens to women like you in this world," Rebecca replied, her voice low and intense. "You think you're standing in the light, but the shadows are closing in. You need to protect yourself.” "Protect myself?" Sarah echoed, state of shock spilling over. "What about Nathaniel? He deserves to know the truth." Rebecca's look darkened. "What truth? That you have a daughter he doesn't know about? Do you really think he'll react positively?" "Maybe not at first, but he has the right to know!" Sarah insisted, her voice rising. "Think about it," Rebecca said, her tone softening (a) little. "This isn't just about you. It's about him and his empire. You could ruin everything." Sarah's mind raced. Was she really prepared to release noise and confusion in Nathaniel's life? But then she thought of Lily, her sweet girl who deserved to know her father. Just then, Nathaniel's voice boomed through the noise and confusion, cutting into her thoughts. "Everyone, I'll address this later! I have no further comments." With that, he turned and walked quickly toward the exit, the crowd parting like the Red Sea. Panic suddenly rushed through Sarah. This was her last chance. "Stop him!" she shouted to Rebecca, but the woman simply shook her head, a serious look on her face. "No. You need to make your choice, Sarah. This is your moment to decide what's truly important." With that, Rebecca disappeared into the crowd, leaving Sarah standing there, torn between her past and her daughter's future. Taking a deep breath, Sarah pushed forward, her heart pounding. She had to reach Nathaniel before he slipped away for good. As she burst through the small restaurant doors, the cool night air hit her like a wave. She spotted Nathaniel's figure moving toward a black SUV parked at the curb, his back turned to her. "Wait!" she called, (very upset feelings of hopelessness) threading through her voice. He paused, but didn't turn around. "This isn't the time, Sarah." "It is the time!" she insisted, her voice breaking. "You need to know the truth. You're a father!" The world around her seemed to freeze as those words hung in the air. Nathaniel turned slowly, his expression unreadable. "What did you just say?" he asked, his voice low and dangerous. Before she could respond, a loud horn made a loud noise, and headlights swept toward them, lighting the street. A black SUV came speeding down the road, heading straight for Nathaniel. "Look out!" Sarah scr eamed, energy-giving body chemical surging through her as she lunged forward, her gut feelings kicking in.
