Chapter FifteenMerrin kept her promise. She was right there in the seat beside my bed when I awoke. Her head lulled against the back of the chair, her eyes wide, staring unseeing at the ceiling. “Merrin?” I whispered into the near darkness. The candles that had been lighting the room were dwindling down to embers, and I found myself wondering for a moment how long I had been asleep for. The wonder was replaced by terror with every moment that I stared at Merrin.
