Chapter Twenty Seven-1

2040 Words

Chapter Twenty Seven Demon of Desire I met this monster – no hyperbole at all – in a bar. I thought she was just a woman, maybe ten years older than my woefully naïve nineteen. Seems I was off by a few thousand years. Anyway, she claimed to have supernatural powers. I said I didn’t believe her. She said she could see into a man’s soul, and read there his deepest needs, things he couldn’t even acknowledge to himself. Then she could transform herself, and make those darkest dreams a living nightmare. She said she’d been doing it since the time of the Aztecs, whose prayers, beliefs, and blood sacrifices had conjured her into being. I asked if she thought I was born yesterday. She said yes, compared to her I had been. She dared me to come home with her, where she would prove everything.
