His silent Storm

767 Words
The world outside was silent, but Ariana’s heart thundered within her chest. The moonlight spilled into her bedroom, painting silver shadows across the cold marble floor. The mansion was quiet—too quiet. Ever since Dominic left two nights ago without a word, the staff had been on edge. No one knew where he had gone or why. She had learned not to ask questions. She’d curled up on her bed with a book she could barely focus on, her thoughts consumed by the man who haunted her every waking moment. Dominic Viero. Cold. Commanding. Confusing. Their marriage wasn’t love. It wasn’t even companionship. It was an agreement — signed, sealed, and bound with silence. But something had shifted. The way he had looked at her before leaving. Like he wanted to say something but couldn’t. Like there was a war behind those calculating eyes. Ariana didn’t know why it hurt. He barely touched her anymore. He was always busy. Distant. He made sure she had everything money could buy, yet she was starved—for warmth, for attention, for meaning. And now, he was gone. Ariana dropped the book and stood, pacing restlessly. She wrapped her arms around herself as the wind howled against the windows. Something was wrong. Her body sensed it. Suddenly— BOOM. A loud thud echoed through the mansion. The lights flickered. Her heart stopped. Another crash. Then voices. Men’s voices. Rough. Loud. Angry. Ariana rushed to the door and pressed her ear to it. “Where the hell is she?” “Upstairs. End of the hall.” “She better be alone. Boss said no mistakes.” Ariana’s blood ran cold. She backed away, heart racing. Intruders. In the house. Looking for her. No time to think. She turned, grabbing her phone. No signal. Of course. Dominic had installed a private security network that blocked external access — his way of staying in control. And now, it was a trap. The door burst open. Ariana screamed. Two men in black rushed toward her. One had a scar across his face. The other carried rope. “Don’t fight. We’re not here to hurt you—unless you make us.” Her scream echoed as she backed against the wall. “Dominic!” she cried, even though she knew he wasn’t there. But someone heard. BANG! A gunshot rang out. One of the men dropped instantly. The other turned— Only to be tackled by a dark blur of violence. Dominic. Her husband. Fury burned in his eyes as he slammed the intruder into the wall. Once. Twice. Until blood smeared the marble. Ariana couldn’t move. Couldn’t breathe. Dominic turned, breathing heavily, his gun still raised. “Did they touch you?” His voice was low. Deadly. She shook her head. He stormed forward and pulled her into his arms. Tight. Possessive. His heart thudded against her ear. “I told them no one touches what’s mine,” he growled. Tears filled her eyes as she clung to him. For the first time, he held her like she mattered. “What… who were they?” “Enemies. Old ones,” he said. “They tried to take you. They made a mistake.” “But why didn’t you tell me you were leaving?” she whispered. His jaw clenched. “Because I didn’t want you to worry. And because I don’t know how to... do this.” “Do what?” “Care.” She pulled back slightly, staring into his eyes. “You saved me.” “I always will.” Ariana’s breath caught. Dominic wasn’t just a storm. He was her storm. Silent. Violent. Protective. He brushed a strand of hair from her cheek. “I’m not good at this. But I’m trying, Ariana. I don’t know what’s happening to me.” She placed her hand on his chest. “You’re changing.” “I don’t want to feel anything. Feelings make you weak. But when I heard they were coming for you, I didn’t think—I just ran. I broke every rule I made for myself.” “Why?” His gaze didn’t waver. “Because you’re mine.” Ariana’s heart skipped. Dominic Viero, the man who never showed emotion, was breaking his own chains—for her. And in that moment, she realized something terrifying. She was falling for him. Not just the protector. Not just the man who held her like the world depended on it. She was falling for the broken, dangerous, distant man who hid storms inside his chest. And he was falling, too.
