The city’s pulse faded as I climbed the creaky stairs to our apartment, the paper bag from Burger place still warm in my hand.
As I neared our door, the thought of seeing Mia, my little sister, made me excited.
Her college books were probably spread across the kitchen table, her nose buried in some art text, and I couldn’t wait to surprise her with the extra-large burger and onion rings I’d gotten her.
The cash from the VIP, tucked in my jacket pocket, as I felt it with my left hand.
It's enough to chip away at Mia’s tuition for a month and maybe keep Victor’s threats at bay for another week.
