chapter 13

1172 Words

Daniel’s POV The clock on my desk clicked 10:15 p.m. Today has been hectic. I was done with contracts signing, emails clearing, another win for Hawthorne Enterprises. My tie hung loose, as I closed a file. I was ready for a whiskey to drown the day. Rosie wasn't kidding when she said I had a tight schedule today and I shouldn't have followed Marcus to my favorite restaurant which he brought it up but then I won’t have seen Vanessa. I thought of Vanessa. Vanessa Kane. My ex and how she had seen me at the restaurant. The thought of her in those dark curls, that red dress, her audacity to slide into my booth like nothing had happened soured my mood. Two years ago, she had waltzed into this very office, her perfume heavy, her smile sharp as she dumped me for some “richer” guy.
