26 OPHELIA CLARK October 26 I woke up coughing and gasping for air, but I felt incredible. For the first time since meeting Isra in the park, I felt like I actually had a shot at figuring this thing out. I now knew the location and day of the month the event would take place. I reached under my mattress, pulled out the stone on the silver chain, and clenched it in my fist. “Thank you,” I whispered to it before laying back down and doing my best to get back to sleep. I’d have to be up and ready for school in a few hours. Lost in thought, I walked down the drab gray hallways of Morson County High as I fingered the covellite stone dangling from the chain around my neck.
