I walked away from that thing with the nerd girl feeling pretty good about myself. It wasn’t my style to get into someone else’s business, but when I saw her curled up on the floor, surrounded by those horrible girls, all I could think of was Gary and how unfair the world was to people with no power. The weak, the defenseless, the unpopular. We had nothing our bullies wanted, but they preyed on us for the fun of it - like it was sport to them. I knew that one day I would get away from the man that was making my life a living hell, and though that day couldn’t come soon enough, I’m glad I was here to stand up for someone who needed it. I hope she didn’t take my action to mean anything more that it was, though. I was only trying to be nice, but the way she held on
