64 OPHELIA CLARK November 16 A week ago, Isra and I stood outside the Neelan Thomas bank watching the cops look for an imaginary bomb. I haven’t seen or heard from her since. Though she said she’d come for me if I passed her challenge, I still thought I’d see her one last time. I felt horrible about the way I’d failed Trenton Walker. The boy’s death would haunt me for the rest of my life. I knew I wasn’t directly responsible - Blake Jones would have to answer for that, but I was at least partially to blame. And Isra too. I’ll never understand how she could just let something like that happen. If I had powers like hers, I’d use them to help as many people as possible. And maybe I still could. While the blue covellite necklace was still in my possession, I continued to wear it every day.
