Janel called her brother Johnson through the phone, to come over and watch after their mother till she returned. Within an hour later, he arrived at the hospital and met Jabel departing for Rita's errand.
It was exactly 3:pm when she arrived at Madam Karen's house.
The appearance of the mansion scared her at first because she hadn't seen or stood before such a mighty building before. Such a form of building was not even up to ten throughout the whole of London and Britain as a whole. The gate alone was highly majestic as it had the appearance of a palace. Since she was born, she has never come around the environment even though her mother was once a worker for Madam Karen, serving her for fifteen years as a cook.
"How may I help you?" Junior the gate man asked, after she might have knocked her life on the gate.
"Greetings, I am looking for Madam Karen Devale" Janel answered him with fear and trembling.
"What! What is someone like you doing with Madam Karen? " He asked in surprise.
"I have a letter for her and I must deliver this for her to read, "She said as she raised an envelope for him to see, and when he saw it, he became restless.
He quickly closed the gate and a few minutes later, two armed security men came to her. After strategic interrogation, she was permitted into the mansion and was straight away taken to Madam Karen.
Janel was in the sitting room admiring its interior beauty which was magnificently decorated with the best ornamentals and modern styles, when Karen's voice echoed from the stir case.
"Hello! Who are you and what can I do for you?"It echoed from a direction of stir she knew not.
"Greetings mam, I am Janel, the daughter of Rita" She introduced herself without even knowing from which angle the voice spoke.
There were then ten minutes of silence from Karen who stood while watching at her. She gradually came down, holding a cup full of red wine in her hand.
"Who do you say you are"? She asked once again to beat every doubt.
On hearing from Janel, after being convinced of her identity, they began some serious talks.
"My mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and we have searched for places we could find help until she directed me to you" Janel informed.
"What makes you and your mother think of feel that I can be of help? considering the economic situation of the country" Karen asked.
"Honestly speaking ma, I don't know what struck her thoughts on you although, she assured me that you are a good woman who would help her out of the ailment" She answered.
"What about you"?Karen asked.
"I don't know you ma. Throughout the years that my mother has been working for you, none of us have been opportune to visit this residence, if not today that I was directed to you" She replied.
"Wow. I see that you have grown. More beautiful and intelligent" Karen muttered silently.
"You said"? Janel asked as she was captivated by her silent words.
"Nevermind. Your mom will explain better" Karen informed.
She sat comfortably on the sofa with crossed legs and a head bow. She ruminated on things that may be personal but publicly important. She raised her head for some minutes and flung her eyes round Janel from head to toe, before bringing back her head down. Once she was thinking and contemplating, she called Jerry her male servant to put a bottle of Desperado, chin-chin, biscuits, and ice cream for her guest.
When they were served, Janel was a kind of being shy to consume them. The appearance of Karen as an executive woman, scared her; as she was not used to eating before such a presence.
"Feel free to crunch those" Karen appealed.
"Oh, I am most grateful for this," Janel said.
"If you don't like them, you can order anything and it will be on the table in seconds" Karen highlighted.
"They are great ma, lovely" She replied, as she began to crunch on them one after the other.
However, her intuition has pointed to an issue in the mind of Karen but she dares not to look straight at her face.
"Are you married"? Asked Karen
"No, I'm not ma" She replied and at this stage, she was about to applaud her intuition.
"But I think you have a boyfriend," Karen asks deeply.
"Not really ma"
"You are not a virgin. Are you"? She asked deeper.
"Uhmm, your questions. Pardon me mam… ..why asking all these if I may ask? " Janel asked as she was no longer convenient with her words.
"Fear not my dear. You have every right to ask and the liberty to choose whether to answer or not. However, my questions are for a particular reason" Karen highlighted.
"Ok ma, would I be fortunate enough to know this reason?" She asked.
"I have known you for a long time now since you were a teenager," She said.
"Wow, you are serious? I am just knowing" Janel spoke in surprise.
"But you were once in a marital affair. Why did you separate from your husband? "Karen inquired.
"Yeah, that was then. It's my personal affairs ma, and I don't wish to remember or say words as regards to that"She replied. Janel wondered the reasons for her previous questions since Karen knew she was once married. Maybe she was just beating around the bush or not strong enough to hit the nail on the head. She thoughts.
"I will release any amount of money the hospital personnel would need for your mother's treatment" Karen informed.
"Oh my goodness! You will do this for her? " She increased the sound of her voice as it felt like her heart had been pierced with the dagger of joy.
"Only on one condition" Karen added.
"What in this world would the condition be? As long as my mom is healed" She spoke excitedly but was worried deep inside of her.
"You will sign an agreement with me" Karen discloses.
