The drive to the docks was tense, the streets of Newland were empty since it was very late. The dim streetlights glimmered over the wet pavement as Alexei approached the waterfront, a thick fog rolled in from the sea, shrouding the area in a ghostly mist. When he arrived, the docks were quiet, it was just the sound of waves gently lapping against the wooden piers. Alexei parked his car and stepped out, looking around for any sign of Andrey. Shortly, a figure emerged from the mist, tall, heavily built and broad-shouldered. His movements were deliberate, his face half obscured by the fog. Alexei’s body was full of anxiety as Andrey approached, keeping his expression neutral. “You are late, “Andrey said, his voice as cold as the night air. “It was traffic.”Alexei shrugged. Andrey was not smiling. He never did, instead he was staring at Alexei with his dark and calculating eyes as if trying to peel back layers and see the man beneath. Alexei stood his ground, his pulse steady, though every instinct screamed at him to be ready for anything. “Why did you call me here?” he asked cutting through the silence. Andrey’s lips twisted into something like a sneer, but there was no sign of humor in it. “ I needed to see something for myself, “ he replied, stepping closer.” Something’s been bothering me.” “And what's that?” Alexei quickly asked, raising an eyebrow. Andrey didn't reply, rather his gaze was boring into Alexei’s as if he was searching for a c***k. And then he pulled out a small, folded piece of paper from his coat pocket and handed it to Alexei. Alexei’s heart skipped a beat as he took the paper from Andrey unfolding it slowly. It was a photograph taken from a distance, but unmistakable it was him, sitting at a table in a restaurant, across from a man he recognized instantly. His mind raced, as his grip tightened on the picture but he forced himself to remain calm. The picture was from months ago before he had joined Igor’s empire. How the hell had Andrey gotten this? Andrey’s gaze had not left him since he had been watching him closely. His expression was unreadable. “Do you know who this man Is?” he asked, his voice low and dangerous. Alexei folded the picture and put it back into his pocket, keeping his voice steady. “Just a guy I met a while back. He was trying to sell me some info. Why?” Andrey walked closer to him, so close that Alexei felt the cold edge of his breath. “Because I don't like liars, Alexei,” he hissed, “And I don't trust coincidences.” The tension between them crackled in the air, it was thick and suffocating. Alexei stared back at Andrey with a new sense of confidence. “I'm not lying,” he said quietly. Andrey held his gaze for a long unbearable moment and then without a warning he reached into his coat and pulled out a gun, pressing the barrel on Alexei’s head. Alexei didn't flinch, his eyes narrowing. “Igor trusts you,” Andrey said softly, “but I don't. Not yet.” Alexei could feel his heart thundering in his chest, but outwardly he remained calm, his voice steady. “Then what is the point of this Andrey? If you are going to shoot me, do it. Otherwise, I need to leave, I have better things to do.” For a long agonizing moment, Andrey's finger drifted over the trigger. The thick and heavy fog mixed around them making the world feel smaller and more dangerous. Alexei was still standing confident bracing himself for the worst. After a few minutes, Andrey lowered his gun, a cruel smile spreading across his face. “Not tonight,” he said, stepping back. “But you will prove yourself soon enough.” Alexei exhaled slowly, his muscles coiled tight, every nerve on high alert. “Be at the warehouse tomorrow,” Andrey added, “Something big is coming and I want to see if you got the guts to handle it.” Without another word, Andrey turned to leave, disappearing into the fog and leaving Alexi standing by himself in the docks, the weight of the photograph burning a hole in his pocket. Alexei stared at him as he left, his mind racing. That was close, and Andrey had not trusted him that was clear. But something about Andrey’s warning felt different this time. The warehouse tomorrow, something big was coming something dangerous and if he wasn't careful things would go south. As he drove back to Igor’s estate, his phone buzzed again. Another text, but this time it was from an unknown number. “Don't trust him” No name, no context, but he knew exactly who it was referring to. “Andrey.” As he looked at the message, uneasiness crept into his bones. Someone was watching. Someone knew. When Alexei got back, he couldn't sleep that night. The weight of Andrey’s warning, the text from the unknown number and the photograph loomed over him like dark clouds. He sat by his room window, watching the city. Andrey was suspicious, and they made everything more dangerous. He had to do this right because one misstep, one slip and everything would go south. He thought about the photograph and how Andrey got hold of it? And how much did he know? He wondered what he needed to prove at the warehouse tomorrow. The following morning came too quickly. And soon the day was almost over and it was evening. He was getting ready to leave for the warehouse when there came a knock on his door. “Come in,” he said, inviting the person on the other side of the door. Zee walked holding a bucket of popcorn. “Hey you,” she greeted. Immediately Alexei saw her he remembered he had promised her a movie night earlier. “Are you going out?” Zee noticed how Alexei was all dressed up. “Yesh I am,” he replied. He was dressed in his usual attire, dark jeans, a fitted jacket and a black leather watch. “Oh,” Zee replied feeling a bit disappointed. “When will you be back?” “I don't know yet, but I will let you know.” The warehouse was far from the city, it was located near the industrial edge of the city where abandoned factories and shipping yards stretched for miles. It was a place for illicit dealings, quiet, isolated and unmonitored. As Alexei approached the warehouse, he noticed two black SUVs parked outside, their tinted windows reflecting the dim streetlights. Andrey was standing outside, leaning against the hood of one of the vehicles, with cigarette smoke curling from his lips. His expression was unreachable as he stared at Alexei who was coming out of his car. “Look who is here. You are early today.” Andrey said, smoking his cigarette and then he threw it crushing it under his boot. “Good. Let's see if you can handle what’s next.” Alexei didn't reply, he just nodded and followed Andrey inside the warehouse. As they walked inside, he noticed a group of men standing around a table covered in weapons. Knives, Guns and something else that made Alexei’s stomach tighten, a series of small bags, obviously they were drugs, neatly stacked and ready for distribution. There were some of Igor’s men there too. “So here we are,” Andrey said simply, his voice as calm as it was threatening. Today’s operation is critical.” Alexei moved closer, careful not to show any sign of hesitation. “What's the job?” Andrey gestured to the table.”There is a shipment going out tonight. But we have a problem, someone is been leaking information. We suspect it's one of our men.” “Do we know who?” Alexei asked. “We will soon find out,” Andrey said, a cold smile playing on his lips. “And that's where you come in.” “What do I need to do then?” “You’re going to be part of the team overseeing the shipment,” Andrey continued, his voice low. “And if there is any mole, they’ll make a move. And when they do, you will deal with them.” “Think of it as your test Alexei, if you handle this well, you'll earn your place for good,” he added. This was a dangerous setup, Alexei could tell and if anything went wrong he would be blamed or worse killed. He knew Andrey was up to something, his mistrust made the situation even more unstable. It was obvious he was all up in his case, watching his every move, waiting for a reason to put a bullet in his head. But Alexei knew and he was going to play him at his own game. Andrey walked towards Alexei. His gaze bore into him, it was heavy and intense.”Do this, and I promise to be off your back.” Alexei replied with a smile tugging at his lips, “I won't have to fail then.” “Okay then, since you are so confident. Take him with you and make sure there are no loose ends.” Andrey replied, gesturing for Alexei to take one of the men.
