“What good would it have done? You would have only gotten upset and the last thing I need you to be is stupid or to do something stupid.” Damian quickly turned and glared at her but she merely shrugged it off. She might like him, okay really liked him, and he might care for her, but she wasn’t going to allow things like that to get in the way of her job. She had something to do, regardless of what he liked or didn’t like.
“I have every right to be angry and…”
“You do,” she told him, quickly cutting him off, her voice still the same quiet one she used. “I have never said you didn’t have that right, but you also will fight when you shouldn’t, and we both know that.”
“It’s my life; it should be able to fight…”
“That is why you have me help, or did you forget,” she told him, once more cutting him off. “Look,” her voice hitched a notch and they both heard it, “if you knew who was coming after you, or maybe you could narrow it down to a handful of people, I have no doubt that you could take care of things yourself. But the problem is, you don’t know and you needed help and therefore came to my family. Now, let me do my f*****g job.” Damian clenched his teeth together to shut up. He knew she was right but it didn’t make it any easier that she wasn’t talking to him about anything going on. Or was waiting until she felt she needed to speak up. Not that he didn’t get it, because he did, he just didn’t like it.
“Will you tell me about things like this in the future?” He knew the question was pointless, but he still couldn’t stop it from coming out. She stood up and he looked her over, admiring how the skirt clung to her curves although it wasn’t distracting him enough from his anger, and she saw the look in his eye, but decided not to comment on it.
“I will tell you what I see fit to tell you, Damian, and only when I see fit to tell you.” As he opened his mouth to speak, she held up her hand to stop him. “You won’t like that, I know, but it is all I am offering.” She paused and she could hear the snort from where she stood. “I’m the one who knows how to play dirty, who knows how to be the devil and how to be the asshole, so let me do it.” Damian tilted his head and he knew his eyes flashed in his anger because she swallowed hard.
“For now, innamorato (sweetheart), I will let you think you are the only one who knows how to play dirty and how to be the devil. And for now, here, I will let you think you won because when it really counts, and this little game isn’t where it counts, I will win,” he told her in a quiet voiced that was laced with his anger. They stared at each other and Damian could admit that though he loved to see her in all her power and how sexy it was to him, he loved to see the fear that the that mere thought was putting in her mind too. In fact, he was relishing in that.
“Boss?” Angel finally broke the stare and turned to look at her brother, Damian doing the same. Damian had to admit, Jr didn’t look a bit surprised by the exchange between the two and Damian was curious if Rosa had told him anything. After all, it seemed those two were closer to each other than their other siblings.
“Yes?”
“Would you come here? And hi Damian; please bring your laptop.” Angel followed her brother out of her office and Damian followed her. And once he set foot in the conference room, he let out a whistle at the setup that Jr had going on, and Angel had to agree. There were monitors that were lined up to the phone companies and cell companies; there were monitors lined up with security systems, and it looked like the last few monitors were lined up with emails and random messenger applications.
“Fast work Jr; what did you need?”
“I wanted to show you, and then explain why I will need 24/7 access to this area, no questions asked.”
“You have it,” she told him without a pause or a blink.
“Thank you. Now, this is all being worked to various networks as you can see, and once I install the program on everything, it will start to funnel and do what I need it to do. I will have it go to a burner phone so it can’t be traced to me, but once the system notifies me, I need to be here to check it, which is why I need the access.
“The program here will save any information with what I’m tunneling and save it on a drive here,” Jr said, touching a laptop that sat by itself. “Everything should be good, unless I lose power and in that case, may be fucked.”
“I’ll make sure you don’t, I’ll look into getting you a back up generator for the system so that if anything happens, it will have its own power supply for a time.” She eyed the various monitor sand smiled at him. “I’m very impressed.” f**k, Damian was too! “And you are safe?”
“As safe as one can be when one is hacking into things they shouldn’t be. Non preoccuparti sorella, so cosa sto facendo (don’t worry sister, I know what I’m doing).” Angel gave her brother a pointed look and Damian almost shivered himself.
“If anything happens to you, I will make sure to haunt you in hell, you have my promise, and…” before she could say anything more, her cell started ringing and she quickly answered. “Ciao (hello)?” And the more she listened, the more her face got red and Damian couldn’t help but wonder what was going on. Without a goodbye, she ended the call and looked at him. “Leave Jr the laptop Damian, you are going with me to the club; seems I can’t open tonight because of a God damn water leak.”
