A while later Morgan and Megan were walking arm in arm by themselves down a forest path. They’d left their parents with James, Robert, and Miriam. They were looking through the albums Robert had shown Morgan and Megan. The O’Connors, in turn, had brought photos of their own to share with the twins’ new family.
“How are they taking this?” he asked Megan.
“Pretty well. At first they were reluctant. They felt they wouldn’t belong, that they were outsiders. But I assured them they were still our parents and convinced them they should come with me. I’m glad I did. Uncle Robert has talked with them and they seem to understand—as much as they can. It’s as much a shock to them as it is to us—maybe more. How are you doing?”
