Chapter 3 The law firm made his airplane reservations and booked everything else, for which Cody was grateful. All he had to do was write down the booking confirmation number and his connections. At the airport, he fought the overwhelming urge to exchange the ticket for another flight. Any other flight. Tell nobody where he was going (who cared, anyway? His boss perhaps, but not for the reasons Cody wanted someone to care for him) and leave it all behind. Some of the destinations he saw in passing sounded alluring—exotic and tempting. But when it was his turn to check in, he decided he might as well go. In the end, no matter where he went, the same old past would haunt him again sooner or later. Running away only worked for so long. It was a nightmare connection. Cody had three layovers.
