Five days later, Jesse swirled on his chair trying to concentrate but he couldn't. After much sighing and thinking, he called his secretary.
"Yes Sir?"
“Did you find out about Shirley's whereabouts?”
The man faced the floor-to-ceiling window and looked out at Liverpool city view. Then eyes darted back to Jesse whose big and tall build exuded an extremely oppressive vibe.
“Um… Boss,... I ... I think, there has been no progress.”
Jesse Osborne slammed his hand on the table angrily, "You think? Or what?"
Secretary Tan wiped his sweat nervously. “After the young madam left that night, she didn’t go back to the orphanage. I also went to the resturant she attended yesterday to investigate in person, but the address they wrote on the guests form is fake"
“You mean after leaving the restaurant with Gaston Clinton, she didn't go to the orphanage directly? And the address on the guests form is fake?" Jesse turned around abruptly. His eyes were dark and terrifying.
“Yes. I went to the local police station to check her details, but they couldn’t find anyone that fit the young madam’s description. Seems like all her details were erased last night, there's even no trace to any Lewiston”
Jesse was shocked. He thought, ‘Who the hell did I marry? A ghost?’ The truth was that, Jesse couldn't even say it boldly that he knew anything about her. She was an orphan, and nothing to trace her with he didn't even bother to help look for her family members.
When he wanted to marry her, they only went to court and came back and she had already told him that her orphanage Mistress hates her.
“She left with Gaston Clinton that night. Couldn’t you find any clues from him?”
“If Mr. Clinton has the intention to hide her, we probably won’t be able to find anything…”
The words “hide her” made Jesse’s eyebrows perk up in anger.
“Gaston Clinton has always been my bussiness rival, How could he steal my wife?”
“Well… Can't you locate her family members too?"
"I don't know them! She's an orphan and I don't even try to look for her parents or anything"
Secretary Tan almost laughed as he said through his laughter, "How can you Marry someone you dont know?"
Jesse shot daggers at Secretary Tan, who was so terrified that he choked on his breath.
The image of Gaston protecting Shirley that night was still vivid in Jesse’s mind. Gaston looked so in love with Shirley.
For some reason, Jesse was upset about that.
How could his boring wife be able to charm Gaston Clinton ? In the elite circle, Gaston was infamous for being emotionless and ruthless. So why did he help Shirley?
Jesse recalled a scene from the night they signed the divorce papers.
–“Jesse, can we please stay married?”
“Because I love you!”
“What a liar!” Jesse squinted his eyes. His body exuded a chill.
The more he thought about it, the angrier he got. It was a vicious cycle. She loved him and see left with Gaston Clinton? Just then, his phone vibrated on the table.
Jesse shoved his thoughts aside as he saw the caller ID: MY LOVELY ESTHER. He hurriedly answered the call.
“Hi, Esther, what’s wrong?”
“Jess Baby, I’m in your office lobby. Can you come and picked me up?"
Esther's voice sounded rather cute, but Jesse's thoughts were on Shirley he squeezed his face.
" Can you take me upstairs? I made you some snacks, and I want you to try them as soon as possible.”
Esther’s overly sweet voice over the phone made Secretary Tan shudder.
“You’re downstairs?” Jesse frowned in surprise.
“Yeah. Don’t you want to see me?” Esther asked softly.
“I do. I’ll get my secretary to bring you upstairs.”
After hanging up the phone, Jesse looked a little glum.
He had yet to finalize the divorce with Shirley, and the news of their divorce had not been made public. If Esther came to visit him at the office at such a delicate time, it might stir up unnecessary trouble, even though Jesse could handle it.
At this time, his phone vibrated again. It was his mom, trust his mother, she won't sit still after learning of his divorce.
The woman only kept quiet because of her husband.
Jesse looked down at the screen and felt nervous.
“Yes, mum?”
“Meet me downstairs!"
The air in the reception room was suffocating.
Old Mrs Osborne leaned on the railings of the reception room, her eyes blazing with anger, Jesse Knows that so far his mother come and meet for a matter in the office then she's determined to get to the bottom of the issue.
Jesse stood in front of his mother while Esther was outside looking at the Rhapsody, the woman had warned her immediately she arrived and saw her, "Stay away from my son, he's married"
“Tell me! What’s going on with your head that you wanted to spoil your married life?" The woman demanded.
“Mom , please calm down…” he was about to say but the woman raised her hand to stop him but the son didn't want to hear, he continued.
"Mum, Shirley brought me fake pregnancy results that was not even carrying her name, what's more mum, Immediately she signed the papers, she left with another man! None other than Gaston Clinton of BIMS group.
Old Mrs Osborne’s face turned pale. She felt like she had been struck by lightning.
Old Mrs Osborne had been very happy that her son will have a child soon, she had always wanted a grandchild of her own and when she realized that Shirley got pregnant, she didn't want her to go.
Jesse added indifferently, “Now, I choose to end this marriage and be with the woman I truly love. You shouldn’t object because Shirley has also signed the divorce papers. We’ll finalize the divorce soon.”
“What? You’re already divorced?!” Old Mrs Osborne was furious. When she stood up, she almost collapsed.
Jesse rushed forward to help his mum but she pushed him away angrily.
“I want Shirley! Go and find her! I can’t eat or sleep well without Shirley. I don’t want anyone else to be my daughter-in-law. I just want my Shirley!” The older woman shouted as the more she acted like a child.
Shw even threw a tantrum.
“Jesse, why don’t you call Shirley and bring her over to see your mum?” Esther urged from where she was standing and seeing the rhapsody.
“Mum, it’s useless for you to act like this. Even if I ask her to come back to accompany you now, our marriage is over. There’s no way I’ll continue it.”
Jesse thought that it was better to tell his mum the real truth. Instead of delaying the news, it would be better to just tell his mum to stop thinking about her. As time went by, his mom's reliance on Shirley would fade.
“Ahhh! I just want to see Shirley” Mrs Osborne's body trembled, and she fell backward.
This time, Jesse and Esther were frightened. They called their family doctor immediately and rummaged her bags to look for her medicine.
Jesse felt helpless. He had no choice but to call Shirley.
As a result, Jesse only heard an automated voice saying, “The number you have dialed is no longer in service.”
Shirley disappeared and even canceled her phone number.
“Damn it!” Jesse’s eyes were red with anger, and he clenched his fists fiercely.
