The Forgotten Song

205 Words
Emma stood by the old piano, her fingers tracing the worn keys. It had been years since she last played, and yet the memory of the song lingered in her mind. A soft, nostalgic tune her mother had sung to her when she was a child. Tonight, the house felt unusually quiet. Her mother, once vibrant and full of stories, had lost her voice to illness. The room felt cold without her laughter, without her presence. Emma missed the woman who had always known how to make everything feel okay. She hesitated for a moment, then gently pressed the first note of the song. The familiar melody filled the air, each note like a soft memory floating in the room. Her fingers moved more confidently as she played, the music echoing through the house. Suddenly, from the doorway, her mother’s fragile voice joined in, barely a whisper. "I remember," she said, her eyes glistening with tears. Emma stopped playing, turning to face her. “Mom, I thought you…” “I may have lost my voice,” her mother smiled faintly, “but I’ll always hear you.” Together, they finished the song, the room filled with love, and a memory that would never fade.
