Liv’s POV
I took hurried steps down the hallway, my footsteps muffled by the plush carpet beneath me. My mind was a storm of confusion and disbelief, replaying the chaos that had erupted downstairs.
What the hell just happened?
How could Aaron’s father be the man I slept with last night?
Kaelon Blackwood.
The name alone sent a shiver down my spine. His presence was enough to set my body on fire and make everything stand still. He held that kind of power.
He was magnetic, overwhelming, and utterly infuriating. And last night, I had been so swept up in the moment, so blinded by the haze of alcohol and my shattered heart, that I hadn’t even recognized him.
How had I not realized it was him? His face, his voice, it all felt so obvious now. And yet, I had been too caught up in the moment, in the heat of his touch, to notice.
But what about him?
Had he recognized me? Did he know I was his son’s fiancée when he kissed me, touched me, took me apart piece by piece?
The thought made my stomach churn, though I couldn’t decide if it was from embarrassment or something else entirely.
I paused as I arrived at the steps leading to the rooms as a dreadful realization dawned on me.
We had not used a f*****g condom!
“Arrgh…" I groaned lowly, while throwing my hands in the air.
My heartbeat increased before I could take another step. I needed to do something about that.
Damn! How could I have been so careless?
I sighed as I approached the door to the guest room Aaron had given me during my stay here, I reached for the handle, eager to escape and figure out what to do next.
But before I could turn the knob, a hand shot out from nowhere, stopping the door in its tracks.
I gasped, spinning around to find Kaelon standing impossibly close, his tall frame towering over me. His steel-gray eyes bore into mine, filled with an intensity that made my breath catch in my throat.
“Mr. Kaelon,” I whispered, my voice barely audible.
Without a word, he pushed the door open and nudged me inside with a firm but measured force. The door slammed shut behind us, the sound echoing in the quiet room.
“What…” I started, but my words died on my lips as he stepped closer, pinning me between the door and his body.
The scent of his cologne filled the small space, an intoxicating blend of cedarwood and spice that made my knees weak.
My breathing quickened, my chest rising and falling as I tried to keep myself composed. I told myself it was shock, the sheer absurdity of the situation. But deep down, I knew better.
It was him.
His closeness was driving me insane, his heat seeping into me like a fire I couldn’t escape.
My eyes betrayed me, dropping to his lips. They looked just as soft, just as maddeningly perfect as they had last night when they claimed mine.
The memory of his touch, the way his hands had worshipped my body, flashed in my mind, and I felt a tightening deep within my me.
My core ached with the exciting sensation of him, and I cursed my body for the traitorous reaction.
Kaelon leaned in, his sharp gaze never leaving mine. His voice was low, a dangerous growl that sent a shiver down my spine. “How could it be you?”
I blinked, unsure how to respond. My heart hammered in my chest as I opened my mouth, but no words came out.
“Did you do this on purpose?” he asked, his tone laced with suspicion. “Did you come at me intentionally to get back at Aaron?”
His accusation made my breath hitch. “How could I have known it was you SIR? I have never met you except for the one time we did a face.time. So how could I have known it was you? Sir? “ I added, letting my anger briefly surface.
Kaelon’s expression darkened, though something flickered in his eyes, something I couldn’t quite place.
Slowly, he lifted a hand and traced his fingers over my lips, his touch featherlight but electrifying.
“Do you know what you’ve done, Liv?” he murmured, his fingers trailing from my lips down to my neck.
My skin burned where he touched, a fire spreading through me that I couldn’t contain.
A shiver ran down my spine, and I hated how much I craved more of his touch.
He leaned in, his lips brushing against the shell of my ear as he spoke. “Oh, Liv Bennett,” he drawled, his voice a taunting caress, “You played a dangerous game. And I won’t let you off the hook. Definitely not. I promise you that.”
My breath came in shallow gasps, my body betraying me as the heat between us became unbearable.
I could feel the strength of him, the sheer power he exuded without even trying.
How much longer? I need to leave this place.
Kaelon pulled back slowly, his movements deliberate, as if he enjoyed watching me shiver beneath him.
His gray eyes gleamed with a predatory satisfaction, and I hated that part of me wanted to give in to whatever game he was playing.
I clenched my fists at my sides, trying to find some semblance of control, but the ache between my legs reminded me of just how little power I truly had in this moment.
Kaelon’s gaze swept around the room, his sharp eyes taking in every detail as if committing it to memory.
His brown polished Italian shoes kissed the ground as he took a few measured steps toward the bed then back to the door, his presence still filling the room like a thunderstorm waiting to break.
As he approached the door, his hand hovered over the handle for a moment, and I thought he was about to leave. But then he stopped abruptly and turned back to me, his expression unreadable.
“If you need help,” he said, his voice softer now, almost mocking, “let me know.”
And just like that, he was gone.
The door clicked shut behind him, leaving me standing there, flustered and furious with myself. My hands trembled as I pressed them to my burning cheeks, trying to steady my erratic breathing.
“What the hell just happened?” I whispered to the empty room.
I stumbled toward the bed, sitting down heavily as the weight of the encounter pressed down on me. Kaelon’s words echoed in my mind, his touch lingering on my skin like a brand.
This was supposed to be a f*****g simple task.
I was supposed to pack my things and leave, to put Aaron and this house and everything that came with it behind me.
But now, Kaelon was in my head, in my space, in my life. And no matter how much I tried to deny it, I knew one thing for certain.
I wasn’t getting out of this unscathed.
