I stood in my office, looking out the floor-to-ceiling windows, my thoughts racing.
The day had been a blur, and despite the usual rush of business and meetings, my mind kept returning to the one thing that had been occupying my thoughts: Liv.
The moment I heard her agree to the weekend getaway, something inside me loosened, as if a weight I didn’t realize I was carrying had been lifted.
She hadn’t turned me down. She hadn’t pushed me away.
I pulled my phone from my pocket and dialed Evelyn’s number, needing confirmation that everything for the weekend was set.
“Evelyn,” I said as soon as she picked up, “I need everything in place for the weekend getaway. I want to make sure the spa is ready and the accommodations are all set.”
“Everything is set, Mr. Blackwood,”
