Chapter 1 - The confession

Saturday, November 6

"Ucch! - the Nexus journal CMD" Sarah Hara pounded out on the keyboard. She's yawning for sleep, its already late and she couldn't finish enlisting the article into the country's known Nexus CMD journals. She peeped at the wall clock, almost ten o'clock.

Gush! She sighed "Maybe I can spend the rest of the night here".

A soft knock on the door, "who's there?"

The door opened,enter her secretary. "Ma'am, the CMD newsroom is now open and the caster is ready and you are expected ma'am. Someone is here to see you"

"OK, let the person in" Sarah was given quite a fright. She wasn't expecting anyone let alone this late.

The Secretary shut the door behind her after letting the visitor in.

"Good you are still here dear" Mr Lambert swiped his hand over his exhausted face to remove some dirt spills but with an unsuccessful attempt as the spills had mated with his skin colour. Sarah was surprised mostly because her lover who has been on the run suddenly showed up in her office out of nowhere. Coming to think of it, he just suddenly disappeared and left her with their son, she was forced to become a single parent again.

"Here, I bought some groceries..I've got some confessions to make..."

And there he goes, she was preparing to scold him for leaving her and his son and demand an explanation from him but he has a confession just like he normally does every time he returns from his wild trip. It was eerie to try remembering what he has done in the past, she had to let him say out his routine awkward confessions.

"OK what's it about,you can always trust me Lambert..."

"You have to make it a secret dear. These ones are more than the ones I've done in the past..."

The air was tense, even Sarah's heart began to beat faster, something more gruesome than the ones he has done in the past?

"...I killed Karl Delly, the senator's son and even Timmy and a couple of the others for my employers but... I don't know anything about the three dead girls" his heart was throbbing while he was feeling guilty, he had to admit that spilling blood was more dangerous than being a r****t.

"The police are after me,the CMD agents are after me. My identity is now a public discussion. Please Sarah help me in any way you can...

Sarah was dumbfounded, she had to admit that it was better he returned home with a p********e every night than secure the attention of the CMD agents. There is no way he would escape. How bold of him to come to her in the CMD block to ask for her help knowing she is a prominent figure in the team. She can't possibly fight her employers and mess with the evidence they have managed to gather.

But her heart ached when she remembered the love they share, the way he took care of her and how he'd fought for her in the past few years. Why did he have to become an assassin?

"I have to go now so that you won't have to lose your job because of me. Take care of the kids while am gone" Lambert spoke up when he saw she wasn't ready to give him her reply. He can't possibly sit here until the experts arrives to detain him. He had to leave at least for now.

"Wait Lam..." she didn't complete her statement before Lambert banged the door close. Goodness!he had vanished like the air.

She sat back on the four roller chair with mouth wide apart in surprise. She never believed her lover would do such a gruesome thing.

She was down before her eyes felt heavy and she sobbed.

"Ma'am, you are wanted..." her secretary's words sounded like an echo. She didn't even know when her secretary walked into the room.

She was about to collapse when she felt a hand shake her back into reality. "Ma'am,are you alright?"

"Yes... am fine" Sarah managed a smile.

"But you are crying..."

"What's the matter with you, I said I am OK.

"Its just that I am concerned, you are wanted at the CMD newsroom with your Nexus journal information"

"You may go, I will be right there"

She hurried through the articles on her desk and soon she hurried out of the room.

Gaborone state governor, "Mr Clayton Wrich" has declared a terrorist search and found out that Mr Lambert Kara is solidly the serial killer and if found will be charged for six heinous murders. The CMD agents plead with the citizens to report Lambert Kara to the police or CMD if found.

The screen revealed Mr Lambert's portrait to the public.

Tears welled up in Sarah Hara's eyes, she was embittered with thoughts as she gradually fell to the floor. The CMD agents turned to her direction and she was quickly rushed to the hospital.

Sarah's secretary opened her boss's office and took a short peep at the office. She quietly entered. Soon she realised she was tip-toeing. She took a short glance at her documents, she went through her cellphone and found Mr Lambert's portrait, he was somehow related to Sarah, she deduced.

Her hair covered her face, she stuck it at the back of her ear and sighted an apple pie which she quickly put into her pocket. Fear was gradually gnawing away her confidence. Soon she regained herself and made for her boss's cellphone.

She was eluded with thoughts of how to approach the director, Mr Tonsils Jacobs, and give out this heart throbbing news. They have found a trace somehow, they could finally get to Lambert unaware.

Miss Tapper once again went through Sarah's cellphone and found a new text message.

"Dear Sarah, my loved one. You can pay me a visit at Mr Greg's apartment, 6 Calloway, Francis town, Harare in Zimbabwe. Please delete this message after seeing it. Reply if accepted. Your loved one Lambert"

Miss Tapper gasped, she kept meticulous accounts, stored some important details from Sarah's cellphone to hers.

She felt resentment as she garnered some things into her diary and hurried out for Mintel Greg's hospital for immediate investigations. and research.
