The Mafia King’s Forbidden Wife
Chapter Sixteen: The Uncle’s Confession
The entire world seemed to stop.
Elena stared at the man standing in front of her.
A man she had only known as a name.
A ghost from her family’s past.
Matteo Rossi.
Her uncle.
The man everyone believed had disappeared.
The man Isabella claimed was connected to her mother’s death.
And now he was standing alive in front of her.
Smiling.
Like he hadn’t just walked into the middle of a war.
---
Adrian stood between them.
His body tense.
His eyes cold.
“Take one more step and you won’t leave here alive.”
Matteo laughed softly.
“Still the same Adrian.”
His eyes moved over him.
“Always protecting. Always sacrificing. Always believing you can save everyone.”
Adrian’s jaw tightened.
“You don’t know anything about me.”
“Oh, I know more than anyone.”
Matteo looked at Elena.
“Especially about your mother.”
Elena felt her chest tighten.
“Why are you here?”
Matteo’s smile faded.
“Because you deserve to know what really happened.”
Adrian’s voice turned dangerous.
“Don’t listen to him.”
Elena looked at him.
“And why not?”
The question hurt.
Because she didn’t know who to believe anymore.
Matteo noticed the hesitation.
“That’s the problem with Adrian.”
He stepped closer.
“He always thinks he’s the hero of the story.”
---
They moved inside the safe house.
Nobody trusted Matteo.
Not Adrian.
Not Luciano.
Not even Elena.
But she needed answers.
“You said my mother trusted you.”
Matteo nodded.
“She did.”
“Why?”
“Because unlike your father, I didn’t care about power.”
Elena looked at him.
“My father?”
Matteo smiled sadly.
“Your father wanted to rule the world.”
“That’s not true.”
“Isn’t it?”
He placed a file on the table.
“Read it.”
Elena opened it.
Inside were old documents.
Business records.
Secret transactions.
And her father’s name appeared again and again.
Her hands shook.
“No…”
Matteo watched her.
“Your father made a deal with Victor Moretti.”
Adrian looked at the papers.
His expression darkened.
“What deal?”
Matteo answered:
“The destruction of both families.”
---
Elena looked at Matteo.
“Then why did you disappear?”
The room became quiet.
For the first time, Matteo’s confidence disappeared.
“Because I tried to stop them.”
Nobody spoke.
“I discovered what your father and Victor were planning. Your mother discovered it too.”
Elena swallowed.
“And that’s why she died?”
Matteo looked down.
“Yes.”
The answer was too simple.
Too painful.
“Who killed her?”
Matteo didn’t answer immediately.
Then:
“Someone who wanted the secret she carried.”
Elena touched her necklace.
“The key.”
Matteo nodded.
“Yes.”
---
Adrian stepped forward.
“You expect us to believe you?”
Matteo looked at him.
“No.”
A pause.
“Because I know what you believe.”
“And what is that?”
“That I killed her.”
Silence.
Matteo looked at Elena.
“But I didn’t.”
Elena studied his face.
There was something strange.
Not innocence.
Not completely.
Pain.
“You were there that night?”
Matteo nodded.
“Yes.”
“Then what happened?”
His voice lowered.
“Your mother was meeting someone.”
“Who?”
Matteo looked at Adrian.
And Elena immediately noticed.
“No.”
Adrian’s expression changed.
“Don’t.”
Matteo ignored him.
“Your mother was meeting Adrian De Luca.”
The room became silent.
Elena looked at Adrian.
“You said you found her after she was attacked.”
“I did.”
“Then why was she meeting you?”
Adrian looked away.
Because he had never told her everything.
Again.
---
“I went there because she asked me to.”
Adrian finally said.
Elena stared at him.
“What did she want?”
Adrian’s voice was quiet.
“She wanted me to protect you.”
Matteo laughed bitterly.
“Still leaving out the important parts.”
Adrian’s eyes turned dangerous.
“Be careful.”
Matteo looked at Elena.
“Your mother didn’t only ask Adrian to protect you.”
A pause.
“She asked him to hide something from you.”
Elena’s heart stopped.
“What?”
Matteo smiled sadly.
“The truth about your bloodline.”
Everyone became silent.
Even Adrian.
Because this was the secret he never wanted Elena to discover.
“What does that mean?”
Matteo looked at the necklace.
“It means your mother wasn’t just protecting a secret.”
He stepped closer.
“She was protecting you.”
A pause.
“Because you are the rightful heir to something far bigger than either family.”
Elena frowned.
“What?”
Matteo looked at Adrian.
And said:
“The Rossi empire was never your father’s.”
Silence.
“It was your mother’s.”
---
Nobody spoke.
Because suddenly the war was no longer about revenge.
Money.
Or power.
It was about Elena.
Her blood.
Her inheritance.
Her destiny.
And Adrian realized something terrifying.
The people hunting Elena weren’t trying to destroy her.
They were trying to control her.
To be continued…
